  • Bryson Stott 2B | PHI

Phillies' Bryson Stott: Idle against lefty

Stott is out of the lineup for Wednesday's game against the Giants, Todd Zolecki of MLB.com reports.

He'll cede second base to Edmundo Sosa while the Giants send southpaw Robbie Ray to the hill Wednesday. The lefty-hitting Stott has gone 1-for-16 with five strikeouts versus same-handed pitching so far this season.

  • Reds' Santiago Espinal: On bench in second straight

Espinal is out of the lineup for Wednesday's game against the Mariners.

After making four consecutive starts in the infield -- including three in a row at second base -- Espinal shifted to the bench for Tuesday's 8-4 win with Matt McLain (hamstring) manning the keystone in his return from the injured list. McLain should handle everyday duties at second base moving forward, leaving Espinal to fill a utility role that may afford him only a handful of starts per week.

  • Orioles' Jordan Westburg: Exits starting nine

Westburg is not in the lineup for Wednesday's game against the Guardians, Jacob Calvin Meyer of The Baltimore Sun reports.

Westburg missed a game last week with an upper-body issue but had started each of the previous three contests. His absence from Wednesday's lineup appears to be a routine day off. Ramon Urias will start at third base and bat ninth for the Orioles.

  • Jon Berti 3B | CHC

Cubs' Jon Berti: Drawing start at third base

Berti will start at third base and bat ninth in Wednesday's game versus the Padres.

Gage Workman drew the first start at the hot corner Tuesday following the demotion of Matt Shaw, but it will be Berti getting the call Wednesday against right-hander Nick Pivetta. Cubs manager Craig Counsell will likely mix and match at third base until someone emerges.

  • Trey Lipscomb 3B | WAS

Nationals' Trey Lipscomb: Recall from Triple-A official

The Nationals recalled Lipscomb from Triple-A Rochester on Wednesday.

Lipscomb slashed a lowly .200/.268/.232 over 61 games with the big club last season. The 24-year-old will provide depth to an infield that recently lost CJ Abrams (hip) and Paul DeJong (nose).

  • Nolan Gorman 2B | STL

Cardinals' Nolan Gorman: On bench Wednesday

Gorman is out of the lineup for Wednesday's game against the Astros.

Since being reinstated from the injured list Saturday, Gorman has started in three of the Cardinals' ensuing five games while going 1-for-8 with a double, two walks and two RBI during that stretch. With Masyn Winn (back) on the injured list, Gorman will likely be part of a timeshare in the middle infield with Thomas Saggese, who gets the nod at shortstop Wednesday while Brendan Donovan handles second base.

  • Mauricio Dubon 2B | ATL

Astros' Mauricio Dubon: Back on bench Wednesday

Dubon is out of the lineup for Wednesday's game against the Cardinals.

With Brendan Rodgers (hip) making his return to the lineup Wednesday, Dubon will shift back into a utility role. Dubon had started at second base in each of the previous three games while Rodgers was out, going 3-for-8 with a double, two walks, two runs, an RBI and two stolen bases.

  • Jeff McNeil 2B | ATH

Mets' Jeff McNeil: Playing center field in rehab game

McNeil (oblique) will start in center field during a rehab game with Single-A St. Lucie on Thursday, Tim Healey of Newsday reports.

McNeil has limited experience in center field, having made three appearances there with the Mets in 2023 and another three in the minors. With Jose Siri (leg) sidelined, the club would like to have McNeil as an option to play center field. That said, most of McNeil's reps should still come at second base. The 33-year-old appears likely to be activated from the 10-day injured list early next week.

  • Colt Keith 3B | DET

Tigers' Colt Keith: Grabbing seat Wednesday

Keith is absent from the lineup for Wednesday's game in Milwaukee, Chris McCosky of The Detroit News reports.

The left-handed-hitting Keith will get a day off as the Brewers send southpaw Jose Quintana to the hill. Spencer Torkelson will be at first base for the Tigers.

  • Astros' Brendan Rodgers: Back in lineup Wednesday

Rodgers (hip) will start at second base and bat sixth in Wednesday's game versus the Cardinals.

It's Rodgers' first start in a week, as he's been dealing with a hip issue. He did make one pinch-hitting appearance during that stretch and is well enough to return to the lineup for Wednesday's series finale.
