  • Astros' Brendan Rodgers: Managing hip soreness

Manager Joe Espada said that Rodgers is out Saturday due to left hip soreness, Matt Kawahara of the Houston Chronicle reports.

Rodgers was fielding grounders before the game, so keeping him out of the lineup was likely just a precautionary measure. Jose Altuve will start at the keystone Saturday with Zach Dezenzo in left field, and Rodgers will aim to return for Sunday's series finale.

  • Thomas Saggese LF | STL

Cardinals' Thomas Saggese: Set for regular work at shortstop

Saggese is slated to receive regular playing time at shortstop while Masyn Winn (back) is sidelined, Derrick Goold of the St. Louis Post-Dispatch reports.

Winn was placed on the 10-day injured list Saturday with lower-back spasms and Saggese drew the first start at shortstop in that day's matinee against the Phillies. Indications are that Winn will not require an extended absence, but while he is out Saggese should receive the bulk of the reps at shortstop, with utility player Brendan Donovan also in the mix.

  • Zack Gelof 3B | ATH

    Athletics' Zack Gelof: Resumes activity

Gelof (wrist) fielded grounders and threw on the field ahead of Saturday's game against the Mets, Martin Gallegos of MLB.com reports.

Gelof underwent surgery in March to repair a fractured hamate bone in his right wrist. He still has plenty more boxes to check off before he can begin a rehab assignment, but he at least appears to be trending in the right direction.

  • Astros' Brendan Rodgers: Getting breather Saturday

Rodgers isn't in the lineup for Saturday's game versus the Angels.

Rodgers will sit down for the second day in a row Saturday, which will allow Jose Altuve to move in to second base while Zach Dezenzo starts in left field and bats ninth.

  • Tim Tawa LF | ARI

Diamondbacks' Tim Tawa: Sitting again Saturday

Tawa is not in the Diamondbacks' starting lineup against the Brewers on Saturday.

For the second game in a row, Tawa will not be in Arizona's starting nine as Garrett Hampson gets the start at the keystone and bats ninth. Tawa has appeared in four games this season and has gone 2-for-11 with one walk, one run scored and three RBI.

  • Brooks Baldwin SS | CHW

White Sox's Brooks Baldwin: Not starting Saturday

Baldwin isn't in the lineup for Saturday's game against Boston.

Baldwin will get a chance to rest Saturday after going 2-for-5 with an RBI, a run scored and a stolen base in Friday's series opener. Joshua Palacios will fill the resulting vacancy in right field and bat fifth.

  • Orioles' Jordan Westburg: Back in lineup Saturday

Westburg (upper body) will start at third base and bat fourth Saturday against the Blue Jays.

Westburg was held out of Wednesday's contest due to a nagging upper-body injury. Thanks to a scheduled day off Thursday and a bit of rain Friday, the 26-year-old was able to receive plenty of rest and is now ready to take the field again.

  • Nolan Gorman 3B | STL

Cardinals' Nolan Gorman: Reinstated from injured list

The Cardinals reinstated Gorman (hamstring) from the injured list Saturday, Derrick Goold of the St. Louis Post-Dispatch reports.

A strained right hamstring has kept Gorman out of action since the beginning of April. The Cardinals likely would have preferred to send the 24-year-old out on a rehab assignment before activating him, but Masyn Winn's (back) move to the IL on Saturday created an urgent need for infield depth on the big-league roster. Gorman's easiest path to playing time is likely at second base or designated hitter, though he isn't expected to have a regular role at either position.

  • Giants' Tyler Fitzgerald: Logs fourth stolen base Friday

Fitzgerald went 2-for-3 with a stolen base during Friday's 9-1 rain-shortened win over the Yankees.

Fitzgerald recorded two singles in the win and logged his fourth stolen base of the season -- a team-high mark over the club's first 13 games. The 27-year-old has amassed four hits over his last two games, following a five-game stretch in which he went 1-for-14. Fitzgerald is slashing .257/.297/.314 with two doubles and four runs across 39 plate appearances thus far.

  • Gleyber Torres 2B | DET

Tigers' Gleyber Torres: Getting rest Saturday

Torres isn't in the lineup for Saturday's game against Minnesota.

Torres went 2-for-4 with a walk Friday in his first game back from the injured list, but he'll grab a seat on the bench Saturday while Detroit eases him back into regular playing time. Colt Keith will pick up another start at second base while Spencer Torkelson starts at first and Justyn-Henry Malloy serves as the DH.
