  • Sam Haggerty LF | TEX

Mariners' Sam Haggerty: Returns to lineup

Haggerty (shoulder) is starting Friday against the Guardians.

Haggerty was out of the starting lineup for the last five games due to a shoulder injury, but he appeared off the bench in the last two matchups and will start in right field and bat ninth Friday. Since the start of August, he's hit .348 with two home runs, two doubles, eight runs, seven RBI and five stolen bases.

  • Luis Arraez 2B | SF

Twins' Luis Arraez: Not starting Friday

Arraez isn't starting Friday against the Giants.

Arraez went just 1-for-17 with a double, two runs, an RBI and two walks over the last five games and will retreat to the bench for Friday's series opener against the Giants. Jose Miranda is starting at first base.

  • Luis Garcia 1B | WAS

Nationals' Luis Garcia: Activated, starting Friday

Garcia (groin) was activated from the 10-day injured list and is starting at second base Friday against the Reds, Bobby Blanco of MASNSports.com reports.

Garcia has been sidelined the past couple weeks with a groin strain, but he's been cleared to rejoin the Nationals after a three-game rehab stint with Triple-A Rochester. The 22-year-old has a .289/.301/.417 slash line with four home runs and 25 RBI in 60 games this year, and he should work as Washington's primary second baseman down the stretch.

  • Gavin Lux SS | TB

    Dodgers' Gavin Lux: Remains sidelined

Lux (neck) remains on the bench for Friday's game against the Marlins, Fabian Ardaya of The Athletic reports.

Lux hasn't played since Monday as he deals with a neck issue. The fact that he isn't ready to go even after Thursday's scheduled off day is potentially cause for concern, though the Dodgers likely would have placed him on the injured list if they feared a longer absence. He'll be back Saturday if he feels good after swinging a bat Friday, Ardaya reports. Chris Taylor will be the second baseman Friday.

  • Reds' Jonathan India: Good to go Friday

India (lower leg) is starting at second base and batting second Friday against the Nationals.

India sat out Thursday after exiting Wednesday's contest with soreness in his lower left leg, but he'll rejoin the lineup after missing only one game. The 25-year-old has struggled offensively in August with a .212/.278/.333 slash line through 17 games.

  • Sam Haggerty LF | TEX

Mariners' Sam Haggerty: Weekend return possible

Haggerty (shoulder) entered Thursday's win over the Guardians as a pinch runner and could be back in the starting lineup at some point over the weekend, the Associated Press reports.

Mariners manager Scott Servais relayed the details on Haggerty's potential return to the lineup following back-to-back games in which the hot-hitting outfielder was able to make in-game appearances off the bench. Haggerty also checked into two games versus the Athletics last Saturday and Sunday as a defensive replacement and pinch runner after hurting his shoulder, but his re-entry into the starting nine would be ideal for fantasy managers that had been benefitting from the 28-year-old's productive bat.

  • Red Sox's Christian Arroyo: Swipes two bags

Arroyo went 2-for-4 with a walk, a run scored and two stolen bases in Thursday's 6-5 extra-inning loss to the Blue Jays.

Arroyo returned to action after missing one game due to a leg injury and showed it was a fleeting issue by swiping his fourth and fifth bases of the season. He's not typically a runner, having entered 2022 with just 25 steals on 39 attempts since entering professional ball in 2013.

  • Red Sox's Christian Arroyo: Starting Thursday

Arroyo (leg) is starting Thursday's game against the Blue Jays, Christopher Smith of The Springfield Republican reports.

Arroyo sustained a leg injury Tuesday versus Toronto and sat out Wednesday, but he'll be back in action for the series finale. Across his last six games, he's hit .370 with three doubles, five RBI and four runs.

  • Red Sox's Enrique Hernandez: Takes seat Thursday

Hernandez is out of the lineup for Thursday's game against the Blue Jays, Christopher Smith of The Springfield Republican reports.

Jarren Duran will get a look in center field Thursday and middle infielders Christian Arroyo (leg) and Xander Bogaerts (back) are both in the lineup after one-game absences, so Hernandez will retreat to the bench after starting each of the past five contests. Though Hernandez has gotten off to a slow start at the plate since returning from the injured list Aug. 16 -- he's slashed .214/.233/.357 over seven games -- he should be locked into a near-everyday role for the rest of the season.

  • Reds' Jonathan India: Sitting out Thursday

India (lower leg) is out of the lineup for Thursday's game against the Phillies.

Alejo Lopez will fill in at second base while India sits out the series finale after he was lifted from Wednesday's 7-5 loss with left lower leg soreness. He initially missed three games earlier this month on account of the same injury. India had an MRI come back clean and could rejoin the lineup Friday in Washington, per Bobby Nightengale of The Cincinnati Enquirer.
