Angels' Yoan Moncada: Aggravates thumb again

Moncada was pulled from Wednesday's game against Tampa Bay due to right thumb soreness, Jeff Fletcher of The Orange County Register reports.

Moncada began having issues with his thumb toward the end of spring training. He's already aggravated it once since the regular season began, leaving Friday's contest early before missing the next three games, and he couldn't make it through his first game back in the lineup without experiencing another flare-up. The Angels may consider sending the 29-year-old to the injured list to give his thumb the time it needs to properly heal, though the team's plans are currently unknown.

Angels' Yoan Moncada: Exits early Wednesday

Moncada was removed from Wednesday's game against the Rays due to an injury, Jeff Fletcher of The Orange County Register reports.

Moncada started Wednesday's game after missing the Halos' previous three contests due to a thumb injury that's been bothering him since spring training. If his removal Wednesday ends up being the result of another problem with his thumb, there's a chance the Angels will place him on the IL until he's completely past the issue.

Angels' Yoan Moncada: Returns to lineup Wednesday

Moncada (thumb) will start at third base and bat sixth in Wednesday's game against the Rays.

Moncada missed the previous three contests after aggravating a right thumb injury, but he is feeling well enough to give it a go in this one. The 29-year-old is just 4-for-20 at the plate to start off his Angels career.

  • Mariners' Miles Mastrobuoni: Drawing second start of season

Mastrobuoni will start at second base and bat eighth in Wednesday's game against the Astros.

Mastrobuoni will pick up his second start of the season, filling in at the keystone after the Mariners placed everyday second baseman Ryan Bliss (bicep) on the 10-day injured list. Though Bliss appears headed for an extended absence, Mastrobuoni won't necessarily be the Mariners' top choice to replace him. Dylan Moore will start at third base Wednesday, but he could shift over to second base and serve as the primary option at that position once Jorge Polanco (side) -- who is serving as a designated hitter against the Astros -- is cleared to return to the infield.

  • Gio Urshela 3B | ATH

Athletics' Gio Urshela: Exiting starting nine Wednesday

Urshela is out of the lineup for Wednesday's game against the Padres.

Urshela will get a breather for the day game after a night game, allowing Luis Urias to pick up a start at third base. Though he's been serving as the Athletics' primary option at the hot corner, Urshela's grasp on an everyday role could be slipping while he's struggled to a .182/.206/.273 slash line through his first 35 plate appearances of the season.

  • Ezequiel Duran SS | TEX

Rangers' Ezequiel Duran: Back in big leagues

The Rangers recalled Duran from Triple-A Round Rock on Wednesday, Evan Grant of the Dallas Morning News reports.

Duran was just optioned Tuesday but is back a day later as Wyatt Langford (oblique) goes on the injured list. Duran could see some action in the outfield while Langford is shelved.

  • Josh H. Smith SS | TEX

Rangers' Josh Smith: Back to bench Wednesday

Smith is out of the lineup for Wednesday's game against the Cubs.

The Cubs are sending a tough southpaw (Shota Imanaga) to the hill for the series finale, so the lefty-hitting Smith will retreat to the bench. Though Smith no longer has a path to regular playing time at third base with Josh Jung (neck) returning from the injured list earlier this week, Smith could see action in left field if Wyatt Langford requires a stint on the IL after tweaking his oblique Tuesday.

  • Gio Urshela 3B | ATH

Athletics' Gio Urshela: Drives in three against Friars

Urshela went 3-for-4 with two doubles, a run scored and three RBI in Tuesday's 10-4 win over the Padres.

The veteran third baseman doubled his hit total on the season with the performance. Urshela has had a shaky start to the campaign, batting .182 (6-for-33) in 10 games with zero homers, two runs and four RBI, but his starting spot at the hot corner doesn't seem to be in any jeopardy.

  • Josh H. Smith SS | TEX

Rangers' Josh Smith: Starts at first base

Smith started at first base and went 1-for-3 with a walk and two runs scored in Tuesday's 10-6 loss to the Cubs.

Smith's steady gig as a fill-in third baseman ended Tuesday with the return of Josh Jung; however, Texas manager Bruce Bochy wanted to keep Smith's lively bat -- 7-for-17 over the previous six games -- in the lineup. So, the manager gave Jake Burger (.105) a break at first base. Smith could reprise his temporary fill-in role at another position, as left fielder Wyatt Langford (side) was removed in the seventh inning Tuesday.

  • Josh Jung 3B | TEX

Rangers' Josh Jung: Multi-hit effort in return

Jung went 3-for-4 with an RBI and a run scored in Tuesday's 10-6 loss to the Cubs.

In his return to the lineup after missing time with neck spasms, Jung picked up right where he left off with a multi-hit effort. The former top prospect is off to an outstanding start at the plate in the early going, having gone 6-for-11 with two extra-base hits and two RBI over three appearances to begin the year.
