  • Josh H. Smith SS | TEX

Rangers' Josh Smith: Homers in loss

Smith went 2-for-5 with a two-run home run in Saturday's 8-4 loss to the Mariners.

Smith singled in the first inning and then tied the game with a two-run blast in the third. The long ball was his first since Aug. 5, but he has now hit safely in five straight contests. On the season, the 27-year-old is hitting .262 with 13 homers, 59 RBI, 64 runs scored and 10 steals across 564 plate appearances.

  • Jazz Chisholm CF | NYY

Yankees' Jazz Chisholm: Getting breather against LHP

Chisholm isn't in the Yankees' lineup for Saturday's game against Oakland.

Chisholm will get a day off Saturday as the Yankees opt to sit most of their left-handed bats against southpaw JP Sears. Jon Berti will take over at the hot corner and bat sixth.

  • Red Sox's Rafael Devers: Lands on injured list

The Red Sox placed Devers on the 10-day injured list Saturday with left shoulder inflammation, Jen McCaffrey of The Athletic reports.

Devers received an MRI on both of his shoulders Saturday and will officially land on the IL with a left shoulder issue, even though manager Alex Cora said Friday that the third baseman's right shoulder was the main concern. Either way, his move to the injured list will officially put an early end to his season. Romy Gonzalez and Nick Sogard will split reps at third base the rest of the way, and Mickey Gasper will come up from Triple-A Worcester to fill the open spot on the active roster.

  • Ernie Clement SS | TOR

Blue Jays' Ernie Clement: Sitting Saturday

Clement is out of the lineup for Saturday's game against the Rays.

Clement will get Saturday off after making nine consecutive starts for Toronto. In his place, Leo Jimenez will play shortstop while Davis Schneider plays the keystone. Clement is 11-for-38 (.289) across his last 10 games.

  • Jace Jung 2B | DET

Tigers' Jace Jung: Getting breather versus LHP

Jung isn't in Detroit's lineup for Saturday's game against Baltimore, Chris McCosky of The Detroit News reports.

The lefty-hitting Jung will get a chance to rest Saturday as the Tigers prepare to face the lefty-throwing Cade Povich. Matt Vierling will start at the hot corner in Jung's stead, opening up right field for Wenceel Perez.

  • Josh Rojas 3B | CHW

Mariners' Josh Rojas: Belts eighth homer Friday

Rojas went 1-for-3 with a solo home run and an RBI sacrifice fly in a win over the Rangers on Friday.

Julio Rodriguez stole the show with a two-homer, five-RBI outburst, but Rojas made some noise of his own out of the bottom of the order. Rojas left the yard for the first time in 25 games -- a stretch that dated back to Aug. 18 -- with his 390-foot shot to right center in the third inning that opened the scoring on the night. The veteran infielder has been hitting lightly of late, however, and he'd recorded just a pair of knocks over the 25 plate appearances covering the seven games prior to Friday.

  • Coby Mayo 3B | BAL

Orioles' Coby Mayo: Optioned to Triple-A

The Orioles optioned Mayo to Triple-A Norfolk on Saturday, Matt Weyrich of The Baltimore Sun reports.

Mayo appeared in 10 games after coming up from the minors at the beginning of the month, going 3-for-24 with 12 strikeouts. He'll now be sent back to Triple-A, with Daniel Johnson coming up to fill the roster spot.

  • Jose Ramirez 3B | CLE

Guardians' Jose Ramirez: Carries Cleveland to win Friday

Ramirez went 3-for-4 with a home run, two RBI and a stolen base in Friday's 5-1 win over the Cardinals.

The star third baseman took Kyle Gibson deep in the fifth inning for his 36th homer of the season, and then swiped his 40th bag of the year in the seventh. Ramirez has never recorded a 40-40 season -- his career high in home runs is 39 set back in 2018, while he's already set a new career high in stolen bases in 2024 -- but with seven games left on the Guardians' schedule, he's still got a chance.

  • Alex Bregman 3B | CHC

Astros' Alex Bregman: Pops 24th home run

Bregman went 2-for-5 with a two-run home run and three RBI on Friday against the Angels.

Bregman missed some time in late August and early September with an elbow injury, and he has struggled to find his rhythm at the plate since. In 57 at-bats since September began, he is hitting just .211. However, Bregman has still managed to provide meaningful counting stats, delivering three homers, nine RBI and eight runs scored in that span.

  • Rangers' Jonathan Ornelas: Starts at third base

Ornelas started at third base and went 0-for-3 in Friday's 8-2 loss to the Mariners.

Ornelas appeared in just his third game since being called up at the beginning of the month. He filled in for Josh Jung, who was shut down for a couple of days due to discomfort in the area near where he underwent wrist surgery earlier this year. The Rangers aren't yet mathematically eliminated from the postseason, but that could happen this weekend. At that point, the club may not want to risk bringing Jung back. If that were to occur, Ornelas and Ezequiel Duran would likely share the hot corner for the remainder of the regular season.
