Yankees' DJ LeMahieu: Returning to starting lineup

LeMahieu (thumb) will be activated off the injured list and bat leadoff Saturday against the Mets, Jack Curry of YES Network reports.

LeMahieu has been sidelined for the last two weeks with a sprained left thumb but will officially make his return to the lineup Saturday. There was already speculation that he could return at some point this weekend, and it holds true as the Yankees will get one of their best all-around hitters back. The team is currently riding a seven-game losing streak and needs players like LeMahieu to step up and provide some sort of spark to get back to its winning ways.

  • Isaac Paredes 3B | HOU

Tigers' Isaac Paredes: Sitting for first game

Paredes isn't in the lineup for Game 1 of Saturday's doubleheader against the Twins.

Paredes will take a breather after starting eight of the last 10 games at third base. Willi Castro will serve as the third baseman for Saturday's matinee.

  • Alex Bregman 3B | CHC

Astros' Alex Bregman: Running at alternate site

Bregman (hamstring) has reported to the Astros' alternate site and has resumed running, Chandler Rome of the Houston Chronicle reports.

It's not clear what speed Bregman is running at, but manager Dusty Baker viewed a video of the session and said Bregman "looks good." While it's a good sign Bregman is up on his feet, he is still expected to be out several more weeks.

  • Matt Chapman 3B | SF

Athletics' Matt Chapman: Back in starting nine

Chapman (head) is in the lineup for Friday's game against the Astros.

After being struck by a pitch on the helmet in Tuesday's game Chapman was held out of the lineup for the first time all season last time the A's took the field Wednesday. However, he is ready to get back in there for Friday's contest. Chapman will man the hot corner and hit cleanup in Oakland's batting order.

  • Nick Madrigal 3B | LAA

White Sox's Nick Madrigal: Sitting Friday

Madrigal is not in Friday's lineup against the Royals.

He was activated from the injured list earlier in the day but will have to wait at least one game before rejoining the starting nine. Danny Mendick is hitting .250 with three home runs over his last nine games, and the White Sox will award him with another start at the keystone.

  • Gio Urshela 3B | MIN

Yankees' Gio Urshela: Day-to-day with bone spur

Urshela has a bone spur in his elbow and is day-to-day, Meredith Marakovits of YES Network reports.

He is not in the lineup for Game 1 of Friday's doubleheader against the Mets. Miguel Andujar is starting at third base and hitting sixth. Jordy Mercer was called up to provide short-term infield depth.

  • Nick Madrigal 3B | LAA

White Sox's Nick Madrigal: Back from injured list

Madrigal (shoulder) was activated off the 10-day injured list Friday.

The 23-year-old has been on the injured list over three weeks with a separated left shoulder, but he'll rejoin the White Sox for Friday's series opener against the Royals. Madrigal should reclaim the starting role at second base, pushing Danny Mendick back to a reserve role.

  • DJ LeMahieu 2B | NYY

Yankees' DJ LeMahieu: Could return Sunday

LeMahieu (thumb) could return as early as Sunday against the Mets, according to general manager Brian Cashman, Lindsey Adler of The Athletic reports.

The previous report was that LeMahieu could return this weekend, but it sounds like Sunday will be the earliest he can return. He has missed almost two weeks with a sprained thumb.

  • Isaac Paredes 3B | HOU

Tigers' Isaac Paredes: Not starting matinee

Paredes is out of the lineup for Game 1 of Friday's doubleheader against the Twins, Chris McCosky of The Detroit News reports.

Paredes has started eight of 10 games at third base since making his big-league debut Aug. 17, but he'll take a seat for Friday's Game 1, though he could still start the nightcap. He has a .269/.367/.423 slash line with one homer through 30 plate appearances. Willi Castro starts at third base for the Tigers in the matinee.

  • Ramon Urias 3B | STL

Orioles' Ramon Urias: Optioned to alternate camp

Urias was optioned to the Orioles' alternate training site Thursday.

Urias served as infield depth for the major-league club recently and appeared in four games. He'll return to alternate camp after Jose Iglesias (quadriceps) was reinstated from the 10-day injured list in a corresponding move.
