  • Max Muncy 3B | LAD

Dodgers' Max Muncy: Takes seat Wednesday

Muncy isn't in the lineup Wednesday against the Nationals, Kirsten Watson of SportsNet LA reports.

Muncy started the last seven games and hit just .115 with a homer, a double, four runs and four RBI. However, he'll get a breather Wednesday while Justin Turner (abdomen) starts at third base and Will Smith serves as the designated hitter.

  • Austin Riley 3B | ATL

Braves' Austin Riley: Hitting streak reaches 18 games

Riley went 2-for-3 with a pair of doubles, a walk, an RBI and a run scored in Tuesday's 6-3 win over the Phillies.

Riley wasted little time in extending his hitting streak to 18 games, as he took a first-pitch strike from Aaron Nola in his first plate appearance of the night before sending a fastball to deep left center to score Dansby Swanson on a double. The 25-year-old added another two-bagger later in the night to give him four in the past two days. Riley, who will start at third base and bat cleanup in Wednesday's series finale, is beginning to vault himself into the National League MVP conversation while he's arguably been the majors' top hitter over the past month.

  • Padres' Manny Machado: Starting Wednesday

Machado (ankle) is starting Wednesday against the Tigers.

Machado tweaked his ankle during the 10th inning of Tuesday's win over Detroit but remained in the game afterward. Although the Padres have a scheduled day off Thursday that would have allowed Machado to rest for two days, he's serving as the designated hitter and batting third Wednesday.

  • Ryan McMahon 3B | NYY

Rockies' Ryan McMahon: Prevents shutout Tuesday

McMahon went 1-for-3 with a solo home run and a walk in Tuesday's 2-1 loss to the White Sox.

McMahon got the Rockies on the board in the ninth inning, but they couldn't muster a tying run. The infielder had gone 0-for-13 with eight strikeouts in his first three games since the All-Star break, so it's a positive sign to see him hit one out. For the season, he's up to eight homers, 42 RBI, 38 runs scored, five stolen bases and a .237/.331/.375 slash line in 93 contests.

  • Padres' Manny Machado: Tweaks ankle

Manager Bob Melvin said Machado tweaked his left ankle "a little bit" during the 10th inning of Tuesday's win over the Tigers, Dennis Lin of The Athletic reports.

Machado apparently suffered the injury when stepping on first base as he reached via an error as the second batter of the 10th inning, though he remained in the game and eventually came around to score. The 30-year-old will be evaluated further Wednesday. San Diego has a scheduled day off Thursday, so the team could opt to rest Machado on Wednesday to give him two full days of rest ahead of Friday's series opener versus the Twins.

  • Nick Maton DH | CHW

Phillies' Nick Maton: Removed from injured list

Maton (shoulder) was activated from the injured list and optioned to Triple-A Lehigh Valley on Tuesday.

After completing a lengthy rehab assignment, Maton is ready to resume playing on a regular basis. He will not immediately rejoin the Phillies, though, and will instead continue playing with Lehigh Valley for the time being.

  • Nolan Arenado 3B | ARI

Cardinals' Nolan Arenado: Placed on restricted list

Arenado (personal) was placed on the restricted list Tuesday, Jeff Jones of the Belleville News-Democrat reports.

Arenado is one of three Cardinals on the 26-man active roster who won't be eligible to play in the two-game series in Toronto due to his vaccination status. He will be reinstated Friday when the team returns to the U.S. and faces the Nationals on the road. Conner Capel was called up from Triple-A Memphis to replace Arenado on the active roster for the time being.

  • Ke'Bryan Hayes 3B | CIN

Pirates' Ke'Bryan Hayes: Keeps collecting hits

Hayes went 2-for-4 in Monday's loss to the Cubs.

Hayes has at least one hit in 11 of his last 12 starts, good for a .292 average across 53 plate appearances. He's chipped in two steals over that span but otherwise has tallied just three RBI and four runs scored. For the season, Hayes is hitting .251/.324/.351 across 377 plate appearances.

  • Evan Longoria 3B | ARI

Giants' Evan Longoria: Dealing with Grade 1 strain

Longoria has been diagnosed with a Grade 1 hamstring strain, Alex Pavlovic of NBC Sports Bay Area reports.

Longoria is expected to miss the next few weeks following this diagnosis, according to John Shea of the San Francisco Chronicle. David Villar will fill in at the hot corner until Longoria is able to return.

  • Kevin Newman 3B | LAA

Pirates' Kevin Newman: Takes seat Monday

Newman isn't starting Monday against the Cubs.

Newman started the last three games and went 1-for-11 with a double, a run, two walks and three strikeouts. Josh VanMeter is shifting to the keystone while Michael Chavis starts at first base.
