White Sox's Jake Burger: Swats game-winning homer

Burger hit a two-run home run in his only at-bat Saturday to lead the White Sox to a 3-2 win over Tampa Bay.

Burger didn't start the contest, but he was called upon to pinch hit with a runner on base in the eighth inning and Chicago down a run. The infielder came through with a 427-foot, two-run shot to center field that produced the winning margin. Burger has five long balls and 15 RBI while slashing .238/.284/.416 through 110 plate appearances on the campaign. Saturday's homer was Burger's third since May 25.

  • Anthony Rendon 3B | LAA

    Angels' Anthony Rendon: Showing improvement

Rendon's wrist swelling and inflammation are subsiding, Rhett Bollinger of MLB.com reports.

Rendon was recently evaluated by a doctor, who found that the third baseman is healing as expected. He hasn't yet resumed baseball activities, but that could happen soon, according to Bollinger. Rendon remains without a clear timetable for a return.

  • Rodolfo Castro 2B | PHI

Pirates' Rodolfo Castro: Optioned to Triple-A

Castro was optioned to Triple-A Indianapolis on Saturday, Jason Mackey of the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette reports.

Castro has struggled defensively since being recalled May 12, committing five errors over 19 games. He has also struggled from the plate, batting .197 with only four extra-base hits over 71 at-bats. His demotion clears a spot on the major-league roster for Travis Swaggerty, who was called up from Indianapolis on Saturday and will make his MLB debut Sunday.

  • Tyler Keenan 3B | TOR

Blue Jays' Tyler Keenan: Dealt to Blue Jays

Keenan was traded to the Blue Jays from the Mariners in exchange for Ryan Borucki on Saturday, Andersen Pickard of MLBDailyDish.com reports.

Keenan will move to a new organization after being selected in the fourth round of the 2020 MLB Draft and will join the Blue Jays' farm system. The first baseman has produced a .250 average with three homers, 14 RBI and eight runs over 92 at-bats with High-A Everett in 2022.

  • Nick Maton DH | CHW

Phillies' Nick Maton: Dealing with sore shoulder

Maton isn't starting Saturday against the Angels due to a sore right shoulder, Todd Zolecki of MLB.com reports.

Maton went 1-for-2 with a triple, a run, an RBI, a walk and a strikeout in Friday's win over the Angels, but he sustained a shoulder injury. He's still sore Saturday but isn't dealing with any structural damage and expects to return soon. Johan Camargo is starting at second base while Bryson Stott takes over at shortstop Saturday.

  • Max Muncy 3B | LAD

Dodgers' Max Muncy: Rehab assignment begins Saturday

Muncy (elbow) will begin a rehab assignment at Triple-A Oklahoma City on Saturday, broadcaster Alex Freedman reports.

Muncy's rehab assignment was pushed back a few days after he was initially scheduled to begin playing in minor-league games Thursday, but he'll start at the hot corner and bat second Saturday. The 31-year-old has been on the 10-day injured list since May 28, and he'll likely be able to rejoin the Dodgers in the coming days.

  • Evan Longoria 3B | ARI

Giants' Evan Longoria: Not in Saturday's lineup

Longoria isn't starting Saturday against the Marlins, Amy Gutierrez of the Giants' official site reports.

Longoria returned to the lineup from a shoulder injury Friday against Miami and went 2-for-5 with a double, a run, a walk and a strikeout. However, Jason Vosler will take over at the hot corner and bat eighth Saturday.

  • Taylor Walls SS | TB

Rays' Taylor Walls: Out again Saturday

Walls (calf) is not in Saturday's lineup against the White Sox, Marc Topkin of the Tampa Bay Times reports.

Walls was reportedly available off the bench Friday, so that will likely be the case again Saturday. He is still trying to get right after fouling a ball off his calf earlier this week. Vidal Brujan will start at shortstop and bat sixth.

  • Gio Urshela 3B | MIN

Twins' Gio Urshela: Not starting Saturday

Urshela (foot) isn't starting Saturday against the Blue Jays.

Urshela was removed from Friday's win over the Blue Jays due to a sprain in the mid-arch of his right foot, and he'll be out of the lineup a day later. The 30-year-old is considered day-to-day for now, but Jose Miranda will start at the hot corner and bat fifth Saturday.

  • Jose Miranda 3B | MIN

Twins' Jose Miranda: Slugs two homers in win

Miranda went 2-for-4 with two homers and three RBI in Friday's 9-3 win over the Blue Jays.

The rookie launched a solo shot off Yusei Kikuchi in the second inning and a two-run blast off Trevor Richards in the sixth as part of a five-homer night for the Twins' offense. Miranda has four hits in 14 at-bats since returning to the majors May 30, with three of them leaving the yard, but his five strikeouts over that stretch remain the biggest obstacle between the 23-year-old and a regular role in the big leagues.
