  • Javier Baez SS | DET

Tigers' Javier Baez: Making first-ever start in CF

Baez will start in center field and bat seventh in Monday's game versus the Padres.

Baez has seen action in center field in three games this season with the Tigers, but this will be his first-ever start at any outfield position at the major-league level. He's expected to play the position frequently while Parker Meadows (shoulder) continues to recover, per Chris McCosky of The Detroit News.

  • Mark Vientos DH | NYM

Mets' Mark Vientos: Remains idle Monday

Vientos (groin) remains out of the lineup for Monday's game against the Phillies, Tim Healey of Newsday reports.

Vientos was forced to leave Saturday's game against the Cardinals and will miss a second straight start, though he did take ground balls Monday and is scheduled to hit later in the afternoon, Anthony DiComo of MLB.com reports. With Vientos still idle, Brett Baty will make the start at third base and bat eighth against Aaron Nola.

  • Jace Jung 2B | DET

Tigers' Jace Jung: Brought up from minors

The Tigers recalled Jung from Triple-A Toledo on Monday.

Jung has slashed .239/.409/.463 with three homers over his first 19 games at Toledo this season. He's starting at third base for the Tigers on Monday and could see regular reps there against right-handed pitching. The 24-year-old played in 34 contests with Detroit last season, hitting .241/.362/.304 with zero home runs and a 30.9 percent strikeout rate.

  • Jace Jung 2B | DET

Tigers' Jace Jung: Spotted at Comerica Park

Jung joined the Tigers at Comerica Park prior to Monday's game against the Padres, Chris McCosky of The Detroit News reports.

There's no word yet on if Jung will be recalled to the active roster or is just in Detroit as a precaution, but Kerry Carpenter (hamstring) did exit Sunday's game with a hamstring issue. Jung failed to make the Opening Day roster but has slashed .239/.409/.463 with three homers over his first 19 games at Triple-A Toledo.

  • Reds' Jeimer Candelario: Sitting again Monday

Candelario is not in the lineup for Monday's game against the Marlins.

Candelario isn't starting for the second straight day, as the Reds are running it back with Spencer Steer at first base and Noelvi Marte at third against Max Meyer after Cincinnati hung 24 runs on the Orioles in Sunday's win. Candelario is slashing just .125/.263/.375 over the last seven days.

  • Bobby Dalbec 1B | CHW

White Sox's Bobby Dalbec: Added to roster

The White Sox selected Dalbec's contract from Triple-A Charlotte on Monday.

Dalbec, 29, has slashed .326/.354/.696 with four home runs this season with Charlotte to earn a promotion to the big club. He could see some action at designated hitter for Chicago and is capable of handling all four corner spots defensively.

  • Jose Ramirez 3B | CLE

Guardians' Jose Ramirez: Swipes bag in win

Ramirez went 1-for-4 with a walk, a stolen base and a run scored in Sunday's 5-4 extra-inning win over Pittsburgh.

Most of Ramirez's offensive contributions came in the seventh inning, when he had a two-out single, stole second base and scored on Kyle Manzardo's home run. Ramirez was recently dropped from the second spot in the order to third, which has helped a pair of slumping outfielders; Lane Thomas and Nolan Jones snapped hitless runs out of the two-hole. As for Ramirez, his bat plays anywhere. He's 4-for-11 with two walks, two steals, one RBI and three runs scored since manager Stephen Vogt tweaked the order.

  • Miguel Vargas 2B | CHW

White Sox's Miguel Vargas: Slipping down order

Vargas went 1-for-3 with a double and a run scored Sunday against the Red Sox.

Vargas served as the White Sox's leadoff hitter in 10 of the team's first 17 games, but he struggled mightily and had just a .429 OPS entering Sunday's game. He's remained an everyday player but has dropped to the bottom half of the order in each of his last three starts.

  • Connor Norby 2B | MIA

Marlins' Connor Norby: Swipes first bag in win

Norby went 3-for-5 with a double, two runs scored and a stolen base in Sunday's 7-5 extra-inning win over the Phillies.

Norby stole his first bag of the season in the first inning and later tallied his first extra-base hit with a double in the sixth. Since making his season debut Thursday, the 24-year-old has gone 5-for-16 with four runs scored and a stolen base. While the Marlins' lineup figures to rank near the bottom of the league, Norby batted third Sunday and is coming off a 2024 campaign in which he tallied nine homers and three steals across 194 plate appearances.

  • Josh H. Smith SS | TEX

Rangers' Josh Smith: Starts at DH

Smith started at designated hitter against a right-hander and went 3-for-4 in Sunday's 1-0 loss to the Dodgers.

Smith replaced a struggling Joc Pederson, who's batting just .055 (3-for-55). The season-opening slump may eventually cost Pederson his job as the DH against righties. Smith is hitting too well -- he's up to .378 following Sunday's loss -- to ignore and could gain a greater share of starts at DH going forward.
