  • Jose Miranda 3B | MIN

Twins' Jose Miranda: Swipes second bag

Miranda went 1-for-4 with a stolen base in Friday's 3-2 extra-inning loss to the Mariners.

Miranda is 18-for-49 (.367) over his last 15 contests, adding eight extra-base hits and 14 RBI in that span. The third baseman's streak of drawing a walk in five straight games ended Friday, but he's still showing good plate discipline with a 5.6 percent walk rate and 14.1 percent strikeout rate. For the year, Miranda is slashing .293/.339/.491 with eight home runs, 35 RBI, 26 runs scored and two steals over 65 contests. The Twins continue to rotate Miranda and Royce Lewis between third base and designated hitter, offering both consistent playing time.

  • Luis Rengifo 2B | MIL

Angels' Luis Rengifo: Goes deep again

Rengifo went 2-for-4 with a two-run homer and two runs scored in Friday's win over Detroit.

Rengifo got things started with a two-run shot in the first inning. It was his sixth of the year and the first time this season he's gone deep in two straight games. He's produced four multi-hit performances in his last five games, boosting his season OPS from .770 to .808 in the process. Rengifo is slashing .315/.361/.447 with 18 extra-base hits, 20 steals and 34 runs scored this season.

  • Josh Jung 3B | TEX

Rangers' Josh Jung: Swing test pushed back

Jung (wrist) will have his swing test pushed back to Saturday, Evan Grant of The Dallas Morning News reports.

Jung was slated to swing a bat Friday, but he'll have that evaluation pushed back a day. He has been on the injured list since April 2 with a fractured right wrist, and his rehab program with Triple-A Round Rock was shut down due to tendon inflammation. Jung could be activated off the injured list soon if his wrist checks out OK on Saturday, though he'll likely be eased back into the action with planned off days once he does return.

  • Tyler Nevin 3B | ATH

    Athletics' Tyler Nevin: Sitting Friday

Nevin is not in the starting lineup for Friday's series opener against the Diamondbacks.

Nevin will begin Friday's contest in the dugout after going 1-for-7 with three walks, one home run and two RBI over the recent three-game series against the Angels. Armando Alvarez will start at third base and bat seventh against Diamondbacks right-hander Slade Cecconi.

  • Reds' Jeimer Candelario: Aiming for Sunday return

Candelario (hamstring) is on track to play Sunday against the Cardinals, Mark Sheldon of MLB.com reports.

Candelario hasn't played since Tuesday as he tends to hamstring tendinitis. However, he's set to make his return for the series finale Sunday and will avoid a stint on the IL. In his stead, Noelvi Marte should continue to start at third base while Spencer Steer handles first base work, but it's not yet clear how the workload at the infield corners will be divided between the trio once Candelario is healthy.

  • Joseph Ortiz 2B | MIL

Brewers' Joey Ortiz: Not in lineup Friday

Ortiz (neck) is not in the starting lineup for Friday's series opener against the Cubs.

Ortiz has been dealing with a neck injury since last week's series against the Angels, and he was removed in the sixth inning of Wednesday's game against the Rangers after going 0-for-2. Despite having a day off Thursday, Ortiz will be in the dugout for at least the series opener against Chicago. Andruw Monasterio will start at third base Friday and bat ninth against Cubs right-hander Jameson Taillon.

  • Orioles' Jordan Westburg: Absent from Baltimore lineup

Westburg is not in the lineup for Friday's game versus the Rangers.

Westburg had started each of the previous eight contests, but he'll begin this one on the bench as the Orioles face right-hander Max Scherzer. Baltimore will go with Jorge Mateo at second base and Ramon Urias at third.

  • Reds' Jeimer Candelario: Held out again Friday

Candelario (hamstring) remains out of the lineup for Friday's game in St. Louis.

It's the third straight day on the bench for Candelario, who has been dealing with hamstring tendinitis since last week. There are no indications to this point that he might require a trip to the 10-day injured list, but the Reds will be forced to consider a move if he remains sidelined much longer. Noelvi Marte and Spencer Steer are again handling the infield corners for the Reds on Friday.

  • CJ Alexander 3B | HOU

Royals' CJ Alexander: Playing time dipping

Alexander is not in the lineup for Friday's contest against the Guardians.

After starting each of the first two games upon his recall, the left-handed hitting Alexander has now been out of the lineup for three straight, and they've all been against righties. Nick Loftin is again handling third base and looks to be the preferred option of the two at the hot corner.

  • Aaron Schunk 3B | ATL

Rockies' Aaron Schunk: Contract selected by Colorado

The Rockies selected Schunk's contract from Triple-A Albuquerque on Friday.

Schunk posted an .811 OPS in his first taste of the Triple-A level in 2023 and has followed up with a .291/.339/.469 slash line through 69 contests this year. That production has come in the hitter-friendly Pacific Coast League, so those numbers can't be taken at face value. Schunk will be making his big-league debut when he gets into a game, and he should see some playing time between second and third base while up with the Rockies, though those opportunities could be limited with both Brendan Rodgers and Ryan McMahon currently healthy.
