Isaac Paredes 3B | HOU
Rays' Isaac Paredes: Out of Saturday's lineup
Paredes is not starting in Saturday's lineup against the Orioles, Marc Topkin of the Tampa Bay Times reports.
Paredes will get a routine day of rest, with Curtis Mead taking over at third base and hitting sixth. Since returning from a hand injury Tuesday, Paredes has only one hit across 14 at-bats.

Manny Machado 3B | SD
Padres' Manny Machado: Gets Saturday off
Machado will be on the bench for Saturday's game against Oakland.
Machado finds himself on the bench for the third time in six games. That might be related to the elbow soreness that has limited him to designated hitter duty throughout September; with the Padres now 6.5 games out of the final NL Wild Card spot, they aren't incentivized to push Machado at all and risk further injury. Luis Campusano will be the designated hitter Saturday, with Brett Sullivan taking Campusano's usual spot behind the plate.

J.D. Davis 1B | LAA
Giants' J.D. Davis: Heads to bench
Davis will sit for the first half of Saturday's doubleheader against the Rockies, Susan Slusser of the San Francisco Chronicle reports.
Davis has swung a hot bat recently, homering three times in his last seven games while slashing .346/.433/.846. The veteran won't be asked to start twice in one day Saturday, but he'll likely return to the lineup for the nightcap and will be looking to tee off on lefty Kyle Freeland. In the afternoon game, Wilmer Flores starts at the hot corner.

Royce Lewis 3B | MIN
Twins' Royce Lewis: Makes history with another slam
Lewis went 1-for-2 with three walks, a grand slam, a second run scored and a stolen base in Friday's 10-2 win over the White Sox.
Chicago's pitching staff wanted nothing to do with Lewis after he drove a Jesse Scholtens fastball over the fence in left field in the second inning with the bases loaded, giving Minnesota a lead it wouldn't relinquish. The 24-year-old third baseman also set a few different records with the blast. Per Joe Pollizze of MLB.com, his four grand slams in 2023 established a new franchise record for the Twins, while Sarah Langs of MLB.com notes that Lewis is the first player in MLB history with five slams among his first 16 career homers. His four grand slams in the last 18 games is also a new record, shattering the prior mark for the shortest such stretch -- 39 games by Don Mattingly in 1987. Lewis is putting together a massive September, slashing .288/.393/.615 through 14 games with five homers, 13 runs and 21 RBI as the Twins close in on an AL Central title.

Noelvi Marte 3B | CIN
Reds' Noelvi Marte: Logs three hits Friday
Marte started at shortstop and went 3-for-4 with a run scored in Friday's 5-3 win over the Mets.
Marte delivered his second three-hit game in the last five starts. He slotted in at shortstop while Elly De La Cruz took a seat for the second time this week against a left-hander. As Reds manager David Bell guides the team during a playoff race, he has managed more tactically over the past week, such as playing lefty-righty matchups or sitting slumping players. One of those slumping is the switch-hitting De La Cruz, who is 1-for-23 against lefties going back to Aug. 23 and hitting .194 with a .526 OPS overall against southpaws. That slump is leading to more opportunities for Marte.

Eugenio Suarez 3B | CIN
Mariners' Eugenio Suarez: Smacks 21st homer
Suarez went 1-for-4 with a solo home run in Friday's 6-3 loss to the Dodgers.
Suarez has gotten his bat going again with three homers over his last nine games, a span in which he's gone 9-for-33 (.273). The third baseman opened the scoring with the fourth-inning blast, and he also hit into a double play in the sixth that allowed another run to score. For the season, he's at a .232/.324/.393 slash line with 21 homers, 88 RBI, 62 runs scored and two stolen bases over 137 contests.

Zack Gelof 2B | ATH
Athletics' Zack Gelof: Registers 11th steal
Gelof went 1-for-3 with a walk and a stolen base in Friday's 8-3 loss to the Padres.
Gelof recorded his first game this month with just one hit -- he had seven multi-hit efforts and five hitless games to begin September. His power has taken a dip this month with six doubles and one home run over 13 contests, and this was his second steal in that span. Gelof is at a .268/.335/.516 slash line with 11 homers, 11 steals, 25 RBI and 33 runs scored through 54 games this season.

Anthony Rendon 3B | LAA
Angels' Anthony Rendon: Rehabbing fractured tibia
Rendon (lower leg) revealed Friday that he was diagnosed with a fractured left tibia in August, Rhett Bollinger of MLB.com reports.
The injury had been called a bone bruise ever since Rendon landed on the IL in mid-July, but at least there is now a bit more clarity as to why he's remained on the shelf. Rendon just recently resumed baseball activities and seems doubtful to return to the Angels' active roster before the end of the season.

Mike Moustakas 3B | CHW
Angels' Mike Moustakas: Lands on IL with forearm strain
The Angels placed Moustakas on the 10-day injured list Friday with a left forearm extensor strain.
This could be a season-ending injury for the veteran infielder given where it lands on the baseball calendar. Kyren Paris has been brought back from Triple-A Salt Lake in a corresponding roster move ahead of Friday's series opener against the Tigers.
