Diamondbacks' Buddy Kennedy: Sent outright to minors
Kennedy was sent outright to Triple-A Reno on Friday.
Kennedy made his MLB debut with Arizona in 2022 and slashed .217/.325/.325 over 94 plate appearances. Now, as the D-backs unload their 40-man roster, the 24-year-old infielder will develop further in Triple-A, where his line jumped up to .261/.363/.385.

Evan Longoria 3B | ARI
Evan Longoria: Giants decline option
Longoria (thumb) had his $13 million club option for 2023 declined by the Giants on Thursday, Susan Slusser of the San Francisco Chronicle reports.
Longoria played fewer than 90 games in each of the past two seasons, and San Francisco opted to pay the $5 million buyout and decline his option for next year. The 37-year-old had a .244/.315/.451 slash line with 14 home runs and 42 RBI in 298 plate appearances last year, so he should be able to secure another deal in free agency. The Giants are apparently interested in re-signing him at a lower price.

Jose Ramirez 3B | CLE
Guardians' Jose Ramirez: Undergoes thumb surgery
Ramirez (thumb) underwent surgery Wednesday on his right thumb, Tom Withers of the Associated Press reports.
Ramirez required a procedure to repair the ulnar collateral ligament in the thumb. The 30-year-old is expected to be able to return to baseball activities in 6-to-8 weeks, placing little doubt on his availability for spring training in February. After noticing a decline in production while playing through the injury for the second half of the 2022 campaign, Ramirez will look to return to form in 2023 and remains a elite fantasy option at third base.

Jose Ramirez 3B | CLE
Guardians' Jose Ramirez: Thumb surgery scheduled
Ramirez will undergo thumb surgery Wednesday, Mandy Bell of MLB.com reports.
Ramirez injured his thumb in mid-June, and while he played through the issue the rest of the way, his .766 OPS post-injury was well below his 1.039 pre-injury mark. The injury affected his power most notably, as he slugged .642 before getting hurt but slugged a merely decent .437 after the injury. He's expected to have time to fully recover by the start of next season, so the Guardians will be hoping for a return to his early-season form.

Jean Segura 3B | CLE
Jean Segura: Heads to free agency
The Phillies have declined Segura's $17 million team option for 2023, making him a free agent.
Segura played a key role in Philadelphia's postseason run, especially with his glove, but the Phillies have elected to move in a different direction in 2023. The veteran slashed .277/.336/.387 with 10 homers, 33 RBI, 13 stolen bases and 45 runs scored over 98 games in 2022.

Alex Bregman 3B | CHC
Astros' Alex Bregman: Suffers broken finger
Bregman sustained a broken left index finger during Game 6 of the World Series against the Phillies on Saturday, Brian McTaggart of MLB.com reports.
Bregman suffered his injury while sliding into second base in the eighth inning Saturday, but he was able to remain in the game as the Astros secured a 4-1 victory to win the World Series for the second time in the last six years. The 28-year-old doesn't expect to require surgery but faces a recovery timetable of approximately eight weeks. However, he's expected to be ready for spring training in 2023.

Jean Segura 3B | CLE
Phillies' Jean Segura: Smacks two hits in Game 5
Segura went 2-for-4 with an RBI during Thursday's 3-2 loss to the Astros in Game 5 of the World Series.
Segura recorded his first multi-hit performance of the World Series, and his RBI single in the eighth inning brought the Phillies to within one with the tying run on third. The 32-year-old is playing in his 11th season but only his first postseason. Even with his performance Thursday night, he is hitting just .226 across 53 at bats while knocking in seven runs. Segura will look to provide another spark at the bottom of the Phillies lineup in Game 6 against projected starter Framber Valdez -- he was 1-for-2 against Valdez in the Game 2 loss.

Alex Bregman 3B | CHC
Astros' Alex Bregman: Two-run blast in Game 2
Bregman went 1-for-4 with a two-run home run during Saturday's 5-2 win over the Phillies in Game 2 of the World Series.
Bregman extended the Houston lead to 5-0 with a 405-foot blast off Zack Wheeler in the fifth inning, his third homer of the postseason and second extra-base hit of the World Series. The 28-year-old third baseman extended his postseason hitting streak to five games, and he is now hitting .316 with nine RBI. Bregman is slated to face Noah Syndergaard in Game 3 -- he has two career at bats against Syndergaard and is 1-for-2 with an RBI single.

Nolan Arenado 3B | ARI
Cardinals' Nolan Arenado: Sticking in St. Louis
Arenado elected to opt into the remaining five years of his contract with the Cardinals on Saturday, Katie Woo of The Athletic reports.
Arenado had the option to test the market heading into his age-32 season, but he evidently felt as though he wasn't going to do better than the five years and $144 million he has remaining on his current deal. He's coming off a season in which he hit .293/.358/.533 (good for a career-best 151 wRC+) while playing excellent defense, but his age may have made it tough to beat an already lofty salary. The decision is largely a hit to Arenado's long-term fantasy value, as it keeps him in one of the league's more pitcher-friendly parks for the foreseeable future, though he'll at least remain a part of a solid lineup that's helped him eclipse 100 RBI in back-to-back seasons.

Nick Maton DH | CHW
Phillies' Nick Maton: Rejoins roster for World Series
Maton was added to the Phillies' roster on Friday ahead of the World Series, Matt Gelb of The Athletic reports.
Maton was on the roster for the wild-card round but never saw the field, and he was left off the roster for the NLDS and NLCS. The 25-year-old is unlikely to see much action and will provide depth as a utility option during the World Series.
