  • Ryan McMahon 3B | NYY

Rockies' Ryan McMahon: Getting look in leadoff role

McMahon went 2-for-4 with a walk, a double and a run scored Friday against the Mets.

McMahon hit atop the order for the fourth consecutive game with a right-handed pitcher on the mound. He's been productive in the small sample, hitting .294 with a homer, five runs scored and two RBI in 17 at-bats. McMahon has come on strong in August, maintaining a .954 OPS and .582 slugging percentage across 22 games.

  • Rodolfo Castro 2B | PHI

    Pirates' Rodolfo Castro: Keeps hitting

Castro went 2-for-4 with a solo home run Friday against the Phillies.

Castro slugged his fourth home run of the season, taking Bailey Falter yard in the fifth inning. Since being recalled Aug. 9, Castro is hitting .309 with three homers, four RBI, four runs scored and two stolen bases across 16 games. He got regular run at third base with Ke'Bryan Hayes sidelined, though the Pirates have shuffled their lineup since to ensure that Castro continues to get consistent at-bats. That should continue so long as Castro hits well.

  • Ke'Bryan Hayes 3B | CIN

Pirates' Ke'Bryan Hayes: Swipes 14th bag

Hayes went 1-for-4 with a double and a stolen base Friday against the Phillies.

Hayes hit a two-out double in the sixth inning and proceeded to steal third base before being stranded. He now has 14 stolen bases on the season, one of the few ways in which his statistical profile has improved from the 2021 campaign. In three games since returning from the injured list, Hayes has gone 3-for-12 with two doubles.

  • Mike Moustakas 3B | CHW

Reds' Mike Moustakas: Lands on injured list

Moustakas was placed on the 10-day injured list with a left calf strain Saturday, retroactive to Aug. 24.

Moustakas missed the last three games due to his calf injury and will ultimately require a trip to the injured list. However, he'll be eligible to return in early September since the move was backdated to Wednesday. Colin Moran's contract was selected Saturday, and he should have a chance to carve out playing time while Moustakas and Matt Reynolds (hip) are sidelined.

  • Tigers' Jeimer Candelario: Reaches, scores twice Friday

Candelario went 1-for-3 with a double, a walk and two runs scored in Friday's loss to the Rangers.

Candelario is now riding a modest two-game hitting streak, though he's batting just .129 this month and .196 for the season. The 28-year-old should continue to see regular playing time at third base the rest of this season, but it remains to be seen what his role might be in 2023, as his current contract expires at the end of the year.

  • Diamondbacks' Emmanuel Rivera: Hits two-run homer

Rivera went 1-for-4 with a two-run home run in Friday's 7-2 win over the White Sox.

Rivera knocked in Josh Rojas on a second-inning shot to put the Diamondbacks up 6-0. In 17 games since being acquired from the Royals, Rivera has gone 17-for-61, taking his batting average from .237 to .247 in the process. During that span, he also has five homers, including his two-run blast Friday. With second baseman Ketel Marte being used as a DH only after aggravating a balky hamstring, Rivera is filling in at third base while Josh Rojas handles second.

  • Ramon Urias 3B | STL

Orioles' Ramon Urias: Blasts 14th homer

Urias went 2-for-4 with a two-run home run in a 2-0 victory over the Astros on Friday.

Urias came up big for his team by launching a towering home run onto the train tracks in Minute Maid Park to break a scoreless tie and power the Orioles to a road victory. It was the third baseman's 14th homer of 2022. He is slashing .232/.261/.366 with three long balls in August.

  • Jonah Bride 3B | TEX

Athletics' Jonah Bride: Clubs first homer

Bride went 1-for-4 with a solo home run and three strikeouts in Friday's 3-2 loss to the Yankees.

Bride got the Athletics on the board in the seventh inning with a solo shot, his first big-league homer. It came in his 36th game with Oakland, and it was just his fourth extra-base hit in 117 at-bats. It wasn't all positive for the infielder, as he also posted his first three-strikeout game, though facing Yankees ace Gerrit Cole didn't help his cause there. For the season, Bride is slashing .222/.308/.274 with six RBI, 10 runs scored and a stolen base, though he should retain fairly regular playing time for a team that's nowhere near contention.

  • Eguy Rosario 3B | SD

Padres' Eguy Rosario: Called up by Padres

Rosario was recalled from Triple-A El Paso on Friday.

Rosario hasn't yet made his major-league debut, but he's one of the Padres' top prospects and has performed well at El Paso to begin the season. He slashed .291/.372/.518 with 21 homers, 92 runs, 76 RBI and 20 stolen bases in the minors this year and will attempt to carve out playing time at the big-league level after Matt Batten was sent down Friday.

  • Jace Peterson SS | ARI

Brewers' Jace Peterson: Returns to active roster

Peterson (elbow) was activated off the 10-day injured list Friday.

Peterson had been on the shelf for over a month with a sprained left elbow, but he's ready to return after going 2-for-9 in a trio of rehab games. He'll fill a utility role down the stretch for the Brewers.
