  • Eric Haase C | SF

Tigers' Eric Haase: Returns to lineup Sunday

Haase is starting at catcher and batting third in Sunday's game against the Royals.

Haase got a breather Saturday but is set to return Sunday, with Grayson Greiner heading to the bench. Jake Rogers (forearm) has been shut down for the foreseeable future, so Haase should continue to work primarily behind the plate, though he's played outfield this year too. The team will likely find him regular days off as he acclimates to the rigors of catching more regularly.

  • Ben Rortvedt C | NYM

Twins' Ben Rortvedt: Sent to minors

Rortvedt was optioned to Triple-A St. Paul on Sunday, Brandon Warne of Access Twins reports.

The 23-year-old joined the Twins on Thursday but will make a quick return to the minors with Mitch Garver back from the paternity list. Rortvedt is unlikely to rejoin the big-league roster while Garver and Ryan Jeffers remain healthy.

  • Mitch Garver DH | SEA

Twins' Mitch Garver: Returns from paternity list

Garver was activated from the paternity list Sunday, Brandon Warne of Access Twins reports.

Garver spent the past few days away from the team to be with his family following the birth of his son. He should reclaim starting duties behind the plate now that he's back, though Ryan Jeffers will start Sunday's series finale versus the Angels.

  • Jose Trevino C | CIN

Rangers' Jose Trevino: Not starting Sunday

Trevino is out of the lineup for Sunday's game at Houston.

Trevino was activated from the injured list Friday and made his first start since late June on Saturday, but he's back on the bench a day later. Jonah Heim will start Sunday as the pair may split playing time behind the plate.

  • Indians' Austin Hedges: Not in Sunday's lineup

Hedges is out of the lineup Sunday versus Tampa Bay.

Hedges started the last three games and will take a seat after going 1-for-9 with a sacrifice fly and four strikeouts. The 28-year-old appears to have taken over the starting role at catcher from Roberto Perez, who starts Sunday, but neither backstop has done enough offensively to earn much job security.

  • Gary Sanchez C | MIL

Yankees' Gary Sanchez: Good to go for series finale

Sanchez (back) is starting behind the plate and batting cleanup Sunday at Boston, Brendan Kuty of The Newark Star-Ledger reports.

Sanchez was removed from Friday's game while dealing with back spasms and didn't play Saturday, but he'll rejoin the lineup for the series finale. The 28--year-old is 4-for-17 with two solo home runs, four walks and two additional runs in six games since the All-Star break.

  • Royals' Salvador Perez: Launches 22nd homer

Perez went 2-for-5 with a three-run home run in Saturday's 9-8 win over the Tigers.

With the Royals in a 5-0 hole heading into the bottom of the fifth inning, Perez kick-started the rally in earnest by chasing Casey Mize from the game with his 22nd homer of the year. The veteran catcher isn't matching last season's extraordinary pace, but he's still slashing an impressive .279/.310/.500 through 96 games.

  • Sean Murphy C | ATL

Athletics' Sean Murphy: Heads to bench

Murphy will sit Saturday against Seattle.

Murphy hits the bench for the first time in a week. Aramis Garcia will take over behind the plate in his absence.

  • Indians' Austin Hedges: Starting again Saturday

Hedges is starting Saturday's game against the Rays.

Hedges has gone just 2-for-10 with an RBI and a strikeout across his last three appearances. However, he'll be in the starting lineup for the fourth time in the last five games, and he may have reclaimed his role as Cleveland's No. 1 catcher for now.

  • Indians' Roberto Perez: Remains out of lineup

Perez isn't starting Saturday's game against Tampa Bay, Neil Solondz of the Rays Radio Network reports.

Perez has gone just 2-for-15 with a solo home run, three walks and seven strikeouts since the All-Star break, and he'll be out of the lineup for a third consecutive game as he may have lost his hold on the starting job behind the dish. Austin Hedges will start at catcher once again and bat eighth.
