Giants' Curt Casali: Remains on bench

Casali will sit Monday against the Royals, Maria I. Guardado of MLB.com reports.

Casali is playing through a hamstring issue and is expected to continue to do so, though he's now been on the bench for two straight games. Austin Wynns remains the starter behind the plate.

  • Cardinals' Andrew Knizner: Filling in for Molina again

Knizner will start at catcher and bat ninth in Monday's game against the Pirates.

Knizner will start for the fifth time in six games while Yadier Molina continues to nurse an unspecified injury. With Molina missing time of late, Knizner hasn't been able to capitalize on the added opportunities afforded to him. He's gone hitless with six strikeouts in 16 at-bats over his last five starts.

  • Phillies' Rafael Marchan: Activated and optioned

The Phillies activated Marchan (hamstring) from the 60-day injured list and optioned him to Triple-A Lehigh Valley on Monday, Todd Zolecki of MLB.com reports.

With J.T. Realmuto and Garrett Stubbs locked in as the top two catchers on the depth chart, the Phillies didn't have a spot on the 26-man active roster for Marchan, whose 20-day rehab window came to a close. He'll likely play on a regular basis at Lehigh Valley, with whom he slashed .235/.366/.412 in 10 games during his rehab assignment.

  • Braves' William Contreras: Not in Monday's lineup

Contreras isn't starting Monday against the Nationals.

Contreras started in the last three games and went 2-for-10 with a homer, a double, two runs, two walks and three strikeouts. He'll get a breather while Travis d'Arnaud starts behind the plate and bats sixth Monday.

  • Braves' William Contreras: Slugs ninth homer

Contreras went 2-for-4 with a double, a solo home run and a second run scored in Sunday's win over the Pirates.

The young backstop continues to push his way into a regular role for Atlanta. Contreras has started eight of 11 games in June, splitting work behind the plate with Travis d'Arnaud while also spotting in at DH, and he's slashed .323/.400/.645 through 35 plate appearances during that time. Through 27 games in the majors this season, Contreras is batting .292 with nine homers, 17 runs and 17 RBI.

    Giants' Curt Casali: Sitting Sunday

Casali will be on the bench Sunday against the Dodgers, Maria I. Guardado of MLB.com reports.

Casali is playing through a hamstring issue and expects to for some time, but he isn't expected to wind up on the injured list. Austin Wynns will take over behind the plate Sunday.

  • Austin Nola C | COL

Padres' Austin Nola: Gets Sunday off

Nola will not start Sunday's game against Colorado.

Nola and Jorge Alfaro have now alternated starts behind the plate for 18 straight games. Alfaro gets the nod Sunday, but Nola should start Monday at Wrigley Field if the pattern continues.

  • Elias Diaz C | KC

Rockies' Elias Diaz: Hits bench Sunday

Diaz will sit Sunday against the Padres, Jeff Sanders of The San Diego Union-Tribune reports.

Diaz and Brian Serven have alternated starts behind the plate over the last six games. Serven gets the nod Sunday, but Diaz should return for Tuesday's game against the Guardians if the pattern continues.

  • Marlins' Jacob Stallings: Remains on bench

Stallings will sit for the second straight game Sunday against the Astros.

Stallings has been on the bench for back-to-back games on just one previous occasion this season, though there haven't been reports that his absence Sunday is due to injury. Nick Fortes will get another start behind the plate, catching for Edward Cabrera.

  • Pirates' Tyler Heineman: Not in Sunday's lineup

Heineman will sit Sunday against Atlanta.

Heineman, who owns a .486 OPS in 24 games this season, has now been on the bench for three of the last five games. It's not clear that he's meaningfully ahead of Sunday's starter Michael Perez on the catcher depth chart at the moment.
