  • Padres' Martin Maldonado: Hitting bench Sunday

Maldonado is out of the lineup for Sunday's game against the Cardinals.

Maldonado and Elias Diaz have alternated starts behind the plate over the last six games. Neither backstop has been able to get much going offensively this season, with Maldonado producing a .560 OPS in 157 plate appearances and Diaz generating a .576 OPS over 218 plate appearances.

  • Eric Haase C | SF

Brewers' Eric Haase: Starting behind plate Sunday

Haase will start at catcher and bat ninth in Sunday's game against the Marlins.

William Contreras will stick in the lineup at designated hitter in a rare day off from catching, allowing Haase to enter the starting nine for just the 16th time all season. Haase carries a .224/.278/.358 slash line into Sunday's contest.

  • Jose Herrera C | TEX

    Diamondbacks' Jose Herrera: Resting Sunday

Herrera is out of the lineup for Sunday's game against the Pirates.

Herrera and James McCann had alternated starts behind the plate in each of the previous nine games, but McCann will collect a second straight start Sunday. The two backstops will continue to split the workload until Gabriel Moreno (finger) returns from the 60-day injured list.

  • Will Smith C | LAD

Dodgers' Will Smith: Receiving breather Sunday

Smith is out of the lineup for Sunday's game against the Red Sox.

Smith went 3-for-8 with a walk and a run while starting the first two games of the series. Dalton Rushing will step in behind the plate and bat eighth versus Boston righty Walker Buehler.

  • Hunter Goodman RF | COL

Rockies' Hunter Goodman: Getting breather Sunday

Goodman is out of the lineup for Sunday's game against the Orioles.

Goodman will get a routine breather for the day game after he went 0-for-3 while catching seven innings of Saturday night's 18-0 loss. Austin Nola will replace Goodman behind the dish.

  • Reds' Tyler Stephenson: Receiving Sunday off

Stephenson is out of the lineup for Sunday's game against Tampa Bay.

Stephenson started the first two games versus the Rays and will take a seat Sunday after gong 3-for-9 with a homer, three RBI and two runs. Jose Trevino will step in behind the plate to catch for Cincinnati righty Brady Singer in the series finale.

  • Drew Millas C | WAS

    Nationals' Drew Millas: Three-hit performance

Millas went 3-for-4 with two runs scored and a stolen base in Saturday's 9-3 win over the Twins.

Millas didn't drive in a run during the Nationals' blowout win, but he did notch his first three-hit game of the 2025 season. The catcher entered Saturday hitting 3-for-14 with a double, a stolen base and three RBI over seven games. His recent opportunity at the big-league level has come due to Keibert Ruiz (concussion) being sidelined.

  • Brewers' Jeferson Quero: Out 3-to-4 weeks

Quero was placed on Triple-A Nashville's injured list and will miss 3-to-4 weeks due to a mild left shoulder sprain, Todd Rosiak of the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel reports.

Quero was pulled from Wednesday's contest after four innings as he appeared to hurt his shoulder while trying to tag out a baserunner earlier in the game. The young backstop missed most of the 2024 campaign due to a torn labrum in his right shoulder, but this appears to be a milder injury to the other shoulder and shouldn't keep him out for the remainder of the campaign. Quero could be back in action in late August if he hits his expected return timeframe.

  • Giants' Patrick Bailey: Idle Saturday

Bailey isn't in the lineup for Saturday's game against the Mets, Susan Slusser of the San Francisco Chronicle reports.

After tallying four hits over his last three games, Bailey will step out of the lineup against left-handed starter David Peterson. Andrew Knizner will get the nod to start at catcher instead Saturday, batting ninth.

  • Riley Adams C | WAS

Nationals' Riley Adams: Sitting down Saturday

Adams isn't in the lineup for Saturday's game against the Twins.

Adams will give way to Drew Millas behind the plate after going 0-for-3 with a strikeout during Friday's series opener.
