Padres' Austin Nola: Hits bench for second game

Nola isn't starting Game 2 of Friday's doubleheader against the Giants.

Nola went 2-for-4 with one run during Friday's matinee. Jason Castro will start behind the dish with Nola out of the lineup for Game 2.

  • Elias Diaz C | KC

Rockies' Elias Diaz: Sitting out Game 2

Diaz isn't in the lineup for the second game of Friday's doubleheader against the Diamondbacks.

Diaz will hit the bench after recording a single and one walk over four plate appearances during Game 1. Tony Wolters will start at catcher for the nightcap.

  • Braves' Travis d'Arnaud: Sitting again Friday

D'Arnaud is out of the lineup Friday against the Red Sox.

D'Arnaud is on the bench for the second straight game, but Atlanta is likely just providing him some extra rest with the NL East crown all sewn up. Tyler Flowers takes over behind the plate Friday, batting eighth.

  • Pirates' Jacob Stallings: Out of Thursday's lineup

Stallings is not in Thursday's lineup against the Cubs.

He will head to the bench in the day game following a night game. Stallings is hitting .160 with two home runs in 50 at-bats this month. John Ryan Murphy will start behind the dish and bat ninth.

  • Phillies' J.T. Realmuto: Starting at first base

Realmuto will start at first base and will bat cleanup Wednesday against the Nationals.

Realmuto has previously made four appearances at first base this season, but he'll be picking up his first start at the position Wednesday. Since Realmuto still not 100 percent healthy after recently missing a week and a half with a hip injury, the Phillies are reluctant to expose him to catching duties. Rhys Hoskins (elbow) is unlikely to return before Sunday's regular-season finale, so Realmuto could have the opportunity to make up to three more starts at the position after Wednesday. That may be enough to allow Realmuto to head into 2021 with eligibility at both catcher and first base in certain fantasy leagues.

  • Reds' Tyler Stephenson: Sent down by Reds

Stephenson was optioned to the Reds' player pool Wednesday.

Stephenson saw minimal playing time in recent games, and he'll now be removed from the active roster as the regular season winds down. The 24-year-old showed promise over a limited sample this season, slashing .294/.400/.647 with two home runs, six RBI and nine strikeouts over 17 at-bats this season.

  • Braves' Travis d'Arnaud: Takes seat Wednesday

D'Arnaud isn't starting Wednesday's game against the Marlins.

D'Arnaud has gone 15-for-40 with two home runs and eight RBI over the last 10 games, and he'll get a breather Wednesday. Tyler Flowers will start behind the dish in his place.

  • Cubs' Victor Caratini: Not in lineup Wednesday

Caratini isn't starting Wednesday against the Pirates.

Caratini will hit the bench for a second consecutive game as his playing time has dipped recently. Kyle Schwarber will serve as the designated hitter Wednesday with Cameron Maybin starting in left field.

Padres' Austin Nola: Sits in favor of Castro

Nola is out of the lineup for Wednesday's game against the Angels.

Nola sits for the second time in three games, giving way to Jason Castro behind the dish. With Nola slashing .189/.295/.358 since coming over in a trade with Seattle on Aug. 30, he could be in danger of falling into a timeshare at catcher with Castro heading into the postseason.

  • Pirates' Jacob Stallings: Comes up big Tuesday

Stallings hit a walk-off homer in the ninth inning of Tuesday's 3-2 victory over the Cubs.

He was slashing just .140/.224/.279 in 49 plate appearances in September prior to Tuesday. Stallings is batting .252 overall, however, and continues to provide Pittsburgh with stellar defense.
