Fortes has been diagnosed with a Grade 1 left oblique strain, Stephen Strom of Marlins Radio Network reports.

It's the least severe grade of strain, but Fortes could still be out beyond the minimum 10 days. In the meantime, Liam Hicks will operate as the Marlins' primary catcher, with Rob Brantly backing him up.

The Marlins selected Brantly's contract from Triple-A Jacksonville on Friday.

Brantly will return to the majors to provide catching depth alongside Liam Hicks while Nick Fortes (oblique) is on the injured list. While Brantly has seen action in parts of nine major-league seasons, he has not reached even 100 plate appearances in a big-league campaign since 2013. He is yet to get into a regular-season game at any level this season.

Fortes was placed on the 10-day injured list Friday, retroactive to April 10, with a left oblique strain.

Fortes missed time last week with a neck issue and is now nursing an oblique injury, which could very well keep him out beyond the initial 10 days. Veteran catcher Rob Brantly was called up in a corresponding move to help Liam Hicks with the workload behind the plate in Miami.

Kirk is absent from the lineup for Thursday's game in Boston.

Kirk caught all 11 innings of Wednesday's extra-innings victory, so he'll get a breather during Thursday's matinee. Tyler Heineman is behind the plate and batting eighth for Toronto.

Bailey went 2-for-4 with a triple, a double, a run scored and an RBI in Wednesday's 8-6 extra-inning win over the Reds.

Bailey lined his third career triple into right field during the sixth frame, cutting the deficit to two runs after driving in Wilmer Flores. Bailey logged his second multi-hit effort over 12 appearances, following a lackluster four-game stretch in which he went 0-for-9 at the plate. The defensive stalwart has recorded at least one hit in three games thus far, slashing .194/.265/.355 with five runs, four extra-base hits and three RBI across 34 plate appearances.

Goodman is out of the lineup for Thursday's game against the Brewers.

Goodman had started at catcher or designated hitter in each of the Rockies' first nine games, but he'll find himself on the bench for the second time in Colorado's three-game series with the Brewers. Jacob Stallings will get another starting nod behind the dish while Goodman's bat has cooled off a bit following a red-hot start to the season. Over his last five games, Goodman has gone 2-for-19 with two walks against five strikeouts.

The White Sox selected Narvaez's contract from Double-A Birmingham on Thursday.

Narvaez was cut loose by the White Sox late in spring training after failing to win a spot on the Opening Day roster, but he rejoined the organization on a minor-league deal shortly thereafter. With top catching prospects Kyle Teel and Edgar Quero both in need of regular playing time at Triple-A Charlotte, Narvaez headed to the White Sox's Double-A affiliate and appeared in three games before getting a call-up in the wake of Chicago losing Korey Lee to a left ankle sprain. While he's up with the big club, Narvaez will likely see limited opportunities behind No. 1 backstop Matt Thaiss, and Narvaez could be designated for assignment once Lee is cleared to return from the injured list.

The White Sox placed Lee on the 10-day injured list Thursday due to a left ankle sprain.

Lee sustained the injury in the sixth inning of Wednesday's 3-2 loss to the Guardians. The severity of the ankle sprain isn't known, but since it's considered more than a day-to-day concern, Lee was deactivated and replaced on the 26-man active roster by veteran backstop Omar Narvaez, whose contract was purchased from Double-A Birmingham. Matt Thaiss should still see the majority of the starts behind the plate while Lee is on the shelf.

Rortvedt will start at catcher and bat ninth in Thursday's game against the Angels.

Rortvedt will enter the lineup for just the fourth time this season, with Danny Jansen drawing the other eight starts behind the plate through the Rays' first 12 games. Jansen is slashing a lowly .038/.194/.038 through his 31 plate appearances, so Rortvedt could work his way into more of a timeshare if he can provide more of an offensive spark in his future starts.

Jansen is out of the lineup for Thursday's game against the Angels.

Ben Rortvedt will get the start behind the plate while Jansen is rested for the day game after a night game. Jansen has recorded just one hit in 26 at-bats on the season, though a 16.1 percent walk rate has helped prop up his on-base percentage to .194.
