Reyes is out of the lineup for Sunday's game at Toronto with a left shoulder issue, Dennis Lin of The Athletic reports.

Reyes apparently tweaked his left shoulder on a check swing in Friday's contest, leading him to be held out of the lineup for the last two games of the series. The 23-year-old indicated he feels well enough to play, but will nonetheless receive another day to recover. Rookie Josh Naylor will grab the start in right field in his absence.

Martinez (back) will serve as the Red Sox's designated hitter and bat cleanup Sunday against the Astros, Pete Abraham of The Boston Globe reports.

Martinez returned from a four-game absence to start in Friday's series opener, but his ongoing back issue resulted in him checking out of the lineup during Saturday's 4-3 loss. The Red Sox still made the slugger available off the bench for that contest, and he came in to deliver a two-out walk as a pinch hitter. After incurring no setbacks following the appearance, Martinez received the green light to fill his usual DH duties in the series finale.

Martinez (back) entered Saturday's game as a pinch hitter and drew a two-out walk in a 4-3 loss to the Astros.

He eventually got to second base but was caught in a rundown after a wild pitch didn't stray as far as he initially thought it would. He didn't look very spry during the sequence. Manager Alex Cora downplayed the back spasms that have caused Martinez to sit out of the starting lineup in five of the last six games, Jason Mastrodonato of the Boston Herald reports. "Just a day off," Cora said.

Carpenter went 3-for-4 with one run scored and two RBI in Saturday's 6-3 win over the Braves.

Carpenter has responded well to dropping out of the leadoff spot, and he now has back-to-back multi-hit games for the first time this season. The 33-year-old's .222/.335/.389 slash line can still clearly use some work, but he appears to be trending in the right direction with a .305 average and three home runs over his last 10 games.

Blackmon (calf) remains out of the lineup Saturday against the Orioles.

Blackmon left Thursday's game with a calf issue and did not appear in Friday's contest. He remains day-to-day. David Dahl will be in right field again Saturday, with Ian Desmond starting in center.

Turner will sit as expected Saturday against the Pirates.

Turner was pulled early Friday for rest and was not expected to start Saturday. The issue appears to be simply one of regular maintenance, as he hasn't been reportedly dealing with any specific injury. Max Muncy will start at third base Saturday, with Matt Beaty getting the nod at first base.

Martinez is back on the bench Saturday against the Astros.

No reason has been given for Martinez's absence, but he missed four games in a row with an illness and a sore back earlier in the week, so there's a good chance that Saturday's absence is related. He went hitless in his return to action Friday. Christian Vazquez will be the designated hitter for Saturday's contest.

Reyes is not in the lineup Saturday against the Blue Jays.

Reyes is hitting .303 with nine homers in his last 24 games. Josh Naylor will start in right field.

Canha, who went 1-for-3 with a solo home run in a win over the Mariners on Friday, is expected to serve as the primary designated hitter during Khris Davis' stay on the injured list due to a hip injury, Martin Gallegos of MLB.com reports.

The veteran has already been doing a pretty convincing Davis impression over the last several games, as he's now left the yard on five occasions over the last eight contests overall. He's slashing .229/.353/.600 on the season, and while he isn't likely to be as prodigious as Davis, Canha is coming off a 2018 season in which he slugged a career-high 17 home runs.

Carpenter went 2-for-4 with a solo home run in Friday's 5-2 loss to Atlanta.

The veteran slugger only has seven homers on the year, but three of them have come in the last seven games. Carpenter's .210/.327/.381 slash line and 15 RBI through 49 games are well below expectations, but a shift down to fifth in the order behind the likes of Paul Goldschmidt and Marcell Ozuna might be just what he needs to kick-start his production.
