The Marlins have made official what was expected - slugger Giancarlo Stanton is out for the season after taking a pitch to the head against Milwaukee on Thursday.

Stanton finishes the season with a stat line of .288/.395/.555. His 37 home runs still leads the National League and will likely continue to the rest of the way.

Nationals outfielder Bryce Harper is in the team's lineup for Tuesday's game against the Braves, despite leaving Monday's with lightheadedness. He is batting sixth and starting in left field Tuesday. 

Giants first baseman Brandon Belt was activated from the 7-day disabled list on Monday, according to Comcast SportsNet Bay Area. Belt has been sidelined since Aug. 6 after taking a ball to the face during warmups. He batted .237 with 11 homers and 24 RBI over 186 at-bats.

Nationals outfielder Bryce Harper was forced out of Monday's game against the Braves due to lightheadedness, the team announced. Harper was removed in the top of the fourth with the issue.

Harper will likely be evaluated and the team should provide an update before Tuesday's game against Atlanta.

Cubs outfielder Jorge Soler, who left the team for the birth of his first child Friday, returned to the lineup Monday against the Reds. Soler is batting .356 (16 for 45) with four home runs during his brief time in the majors so far.

Marlins outfielder Giancarlo Stanton is expected to have the stitches on his face removed on Tuesday, as well as more tests that day, according to MLB.com Saturday. The team will know by then if he'll be able to return at any point this season.

Along with the facial laceration, Stanton had multiple facial fractures and dental damage after being drilled in the face by an 88 mph fastball on Thursday. He was not diagnosed with a concussion.

Stanton was in the midst of his best season in the majors, likely earning MVP consideration before the incident. He batted .288, owned the third-best slugging percentage in the majors (.555) along with 37 homers and 105 RBI over 538 at-bats.

Tigers outfielder J.D. Martinez went 2 for 4 with a home run and four RBI in his team's 7-2 win over the Indians Friday.

Martinez slugged a two-run home run to left center field in the fourth inning to break a 1-1 tie. He then came back with a two-run triple in a seventh inning in which the Tigers scored four times to put the game out of reach. Martinez has hit .305/.347/.553 with 21 home runs, 69 RBI and six stolen bases in 387 at-bats.

Cubs rookie phenom Jorge Soler has left the team for Miami for the birth of his first child. He will miss the weekend series in Pittsburgh and return Monday for the home series against Cincinnati.

Soler has hit safely in all but one game since his promotion and owns a stat line of .356/.367/.733. with four home runs and 14 RBI in 12 games.

Giancarlo Stanton will avoid surgery and likely has no concussion after taking a fastball thrown by Brewers starter Mike Fiers to the face Thursday night, according to the Palm Beach Post.

Stanton has expressed a desire to return to action at some point this season, but Mike Redmond offered that such a possibility "doesn't look good."

If Stanton is indeed done for the year, he will end it with a sensational stat line of .288/.395/.555 and 37 home runs. His slugging percentage ranks third in the majors.
