Matt Carpenter DH | STL
Cardinals' Matt Carpenter: Getting breather versus LHP
Carpenter isn't in the Cardinals' lineup for Friday's game against the Rockies, Jeff Jones of the Belleville News-Democrat reports.
The left-handed bat of Carpenter will be forced out of the lineup Friday as southpaw Austin Gomber prepares to toe the slab for Colorado. Jose Fermin will instead serve as St. Louis' designated hitter while batting seventh.

J.P. Martinez RF | ATL
Braves' J.P. Martinez: Making first start of season
Martinez is batting ninth and playing right field Friday against the Nationals.
Martinez will make his first start since being called up from Triple-A Gwinnett on May 27. Jarred Kelenic (wrist) is dealing with a minor injury and Ronald Acuna (knee) is out for the season, so Friday's start might not be a one-off for Martinez.

Andrew McCutchen DH | TEX
Pirates' Andrew McCutchen: Absent from lineup Friday
McCutchen is not in the lineup for Friday's game against the Twins.
It's the first day off since May 16 for McCutchen. The 37-year-old will yield designated hitter duties Friday to Henry Davis.

Harold Ramirez DH | WAS
Rays' Harold Ramirez: DFA'd by Tampa Bay
The Rays designated Ramirez for assignment on Friday, Ryan Bass of Bally Sports Sun reports.
The 29-year-old began the season as Tampa Bay's primary designated hitter, though he recently had been relegated to the small side of a platoon. Ramirez has never offered much power but hit .306 in 242 games over the previous two seasons, and through 169 plate appearances in 2024 he's batting .268 with just four extra-base hits and a 1.8 percent walk rate. He could garner some interest on the waiver wire.

Mitch Garver DH | SEA
Mariners' Mitch Garver: Goes yard in Thursday's win
Garver went 2-for-2 with a home run, two walks, two RBI and two runs scored in a win over the Athletics on Thursday.
Garver was a one-man wrecking crew for Seattle, delivering an RBI single in the fourth inning before putting an exclamation point on the M's shutout victory with a ninth-inning solo blast. While Thursday's performance marked the veteran catcher's second two-hit effort and second multi-RBI performance in the last four games, Garver's first two months-plus in Seattle have been highly disappointing -- he's sitting on a .175 batting average and .612 OPS through his first 200 plate appearances, and his 30.5 percent strikeout rate is his highest since he whiffed at a 45.7 percent clip during the COVID-shortened 2020 season.

Marcell Ozuna DH | PIT
Braves' Marcell Ozuna: Blasts 18th homer
Ozuna went 2-for-4 with a two-run home run and an additional run in a 5-2 win against Washington on Thursday.
Ozuna gave Atlanta some breathing room with his two-run, eighth-inning blast that extended his team's lead from one run to three. It was the slugger's 18th long ball of the campaign, moving him into fourth place in the majors. Ozuna also ranks second with 55 RBI while slashing an excellent .312/.389/.611 through 252 plate appearances.

Ryan O'Hearn 1B | PIT
Orioles' Ryan O'Hearn: Homers off bench Thursday
O'Hearn hit a two-run homer as a pinch hitter in Thursday's 6-5 loss to the Blue Jays.
As usual, O'Hearn started the game on the bench with the Orioles facing left-hander Yusei Kikuchi. O'Hearn entered in the ninth inning and delivered a homer to cut the Orioles' deficit to one run, but they couldn't tie it up. The 30-year-old is up to eight homers over 48 contests this season, and he's added a trusty .280/.343/.471 slash line with 20 RBI, 22 runs scored and one stolen base over 172 plate appearances. O'Hearn continues to be in the lineup versus nearly every opposing right-hander.

Manny Machado 3B | SD
Padres' Manny Machado: Appears as pinch hitter
Machado (hip) entered Thursday's game against the Diamondbacks as a pinch hitter and grounded out to the pitcher, AJ Cassavell of MLB.comreports.
Machado was held out of Thursday's lineup after suffering a hip flexor strain Wednesday. He is considered day-to-day and was expected to be unavailable Thursday. The fact that he was able to pinch hit is a positive sign, though it's still unclear when he'll be able to rejoin the lineup.

Eloy Jimenez DH | TOR
White Sox's Eloy Jimenez: Rehab assignment on tap
Manager Pedro Grifol said Thursday that Jimenez (hamstring) will begin a rehab assignment next week, Vinnie Duber of AllCHGO.com reports.
Jimenez was initially given a one-month return timeline when he landed on the IL on May 22 with a left hamstring strain, but he appears to already be approaching a return to game action. It's unclear exactly when the 27-year-old will head to the minors or how long he'll remain there, but the White Sox will likely be eager to return him to their lineup as soon as possible given their offense's poor performance to start the year.

Manny Machado 3B | SD
Padres' Manny Machado: Remains out of lineup
Machado (hip) is not in the Padres' lineup versus the Diamondbacks on Thursday, Jeff Sanders of The San Diego Union-Tribune reports.
Machado suffered the hip flexor strain during the fourth inning of Wednesday's 3-2 loss to the Angels as he hustled to first base in an effort to beat out a double play. The 31-year-old is considered day-to-day, and it seems he has avoided any significant damage. Tyler Wade will start in his place at third base and bat eighth.
