  • Cooper Hummel LF | HOU

Diamondbacks' Cooper Hummel: In lineup for third straight game

Hummel will serve as the Diamondbacks' designated hitter and No. 5 batter in Wednesday's game in Miami, Jody Jackson of Bally Sports Arizona reports.

The righty-hitting Hummel has mostly served as a short-side platoon player since making Arizona's Opening Day roster, but he'll stick in the lineup against a right-handed starting pitcher (Elieser Hernandez) for the second straight game after also starting against righty Pablo Lopez in Monday's series opener. Hummel will be filling in Wednesday for Christian Walker, whose season-long struggles in addition to Seth Beer's ongoing slump has positioned Hummel to pick up more at-bats.

  • Mark Canha LF | TEX

Mets' Mark Canha: On bench Wednesday

Canha isn't starting Wednesday against Atlanta.

Canha started in the last three games and went 3-for-10 with a homer, two RBI and four strikeouts. Jeff McNeil will shift to left field while Luis Guillorme enters the lineup at second base.

  • J.D. Martinez DH | NYM

Red Sox's J.D. Martinez: Goes yard again

Martinez went 2-for-4 with a solo home run in Tuesday's 4-0 win over the Angels.

Martinez launched an eighth-inning bomb over the wall in left for his third homer and second in as many games. He's dealt with a nagging groin injury, which no longer appears to be bothersome. Boston's designated hitter is 5-for-9 with five RBI over the last two games.

  • Franmil Reyes DH | WAS

Guardians' Franmil Reyes: Not starting Game 1

Reyes isn't starting the first game of Wednesday's doubleheader against the Padres.

Reyes snapped his six-game hitless streak Sunday against the Athletics when he went 1-for-5 with two RBI, a run and three strikeouts. However, he'll be out of the lineup for the second time in the last three games during Wednesday's matinee. Owen Miller will serve as the designated hitter while Richie Palacios starts in left field.

  • Miguel Cabrera DH | DET

Tigers' Miguel Cabrera: Resting for Game 1 of doubleheader

Cabrera is out of the lineup for the first game of Wednesday's doubleheader with the Pirates.

Cabrera looks as though he'll be receiving some routine maintenance for the front end of the twin bill, but he should be back in the lineup for the second game. Austin Meadows will get a turn as the Tigers' designated hitter while Cabrera rests in Game 1.

  • Yordan Alvarez DH | HOU

Astros' Yordan Alvarez: Goes deep again

Alvarez went 1-for-3 with a solo home run, a walk and an additional run in Tuesday's 4-0 victory over the Mariners.

Alvarez launched a 435-foot bomb to center off Seattle starter Chris Flexen in the fourth inning and walked and scored in the sixth. The 24-year-old has been on a power surge of late with four home runs in his last five games to put him one off the MLB lead with eight. He has bumped his slugging from .510 to .647 in the process.

  • Mike Ford DH | MIN

Giants' Mike Ford: Demoted to Triple-A

Ford was optioned to Triple-A Sacramento on Tuesday.

Ford was acquired by the Giants from the Mariners on Saturday and went 1-for-4 with two RBI during the lone appearance with his new team. Kevin Padlo was recalled from Sacramento in a corresponding move.

  • Joc Pederson DH | TEX

Giants' Joc Pederson: Available off bench

Pederson (groin) has resumed baseball activities and will be available off the bench Tuesday against the Dodgers, Andrew Baggarly of The Athletic reports.

Pederson hasn't played since last Wednesday while recovering from a right groin strain, but the Giants have declined to place him on the injured list. It looks like he'll be back in action within 10 days of the injury, though when exactly he'll return to the lineup is not yet clear.

  • Luis Torrens C | NYM

Mariners' Luis Torrens: Takes seat Tuesday

Torrens is out of the lineup for Tuesday's game against the Astros.

Torrens will head to the bench after a stretch of four starts in five days, with three of those turns coming behind the plate. Tom Murphy will handle catching duties Tuesday, but Torrens may be ahead of him in the pecking order for the time being.

  • Brad Miller DH | SD

Rangers' Brad Miller: Sitting versus lefty

Miller is out of the lineup Tuesday against the Phillies, Levi Weaver of The Athletic reports.

Southpaw Ranger Suarez is pitching Tuesday for Philadelphia, so Miller will take a seat on the bench. Nick Solak will start in left field and bat seventh.
