  • Danny Farquhar has rough night in Seattle

Mariners closer Danny Farquhar had an ugly blown save Monday night at home against the Astros. After Taijuan Walker's gem, the Mariners gave him the ball with a 3-2 lead in the ninth.

Farquhar walked two batters and gave up RBI singles to Jimmy Paredes and Jonathan Villar as the Astros scored four times off him to take a 6-3 lead. Farquhar took the loss to fall to 0-3 with his fourth blown save. He managed just one out coming via the strikeout over 26 pitches. His ERA is at 4.71 as only three of the runs were earned.

Farquhar had allowed just one earned run over his previous 10 appearances before blowing up Monday. He has 13 saves for Seattle over 17 chances.

Josh Fields picks up fourth save

Astros reliever Josh Fields pitched the bottom of the ninth with a 6-3 lead in Seattle Monday night. Fields gave up a homer, but allowed the Mariners to get no closer in a 6-4 win.

Fields earned his fourth save of the season as he allowed just the one hit over an inning of work. He threw 20 pitches and his ERA is at 5.91. Fields has now saved games in back-to-back appearances for the Astros.

  • David Robertson almost back for Yankees

Yankees reliever David Robertson is expected to play catch Monday, The Journal News reports. He also hopes to throw a bullpen session Tuesday.

Robertson seems confident that these next two steps performed with no issues should be enough for him to return to the mound for New York. That said, manager Joe Girardi is unsure if he'll be available for the Yankees Tuesday.

"I’ll do what the training staff and everyone tells us he’s ready to do,” Girardi said. “I’d take him today if I could have him."

  • Brandon Maurer to take spot start Wednesday

Mariners pitcher Brandon Maurer will take a spot start Wednesday against Houston, MLB.com reports.

Maurer owns a 6.85 ERA in 18 appearances, including 10 starts. As a starter, Maurer owns a 6.93 ERA with 32 strikeouts over 49 1/3 innings.

  • Fernando Rodney strikes out two for save

Rays closer Fernando Rodney had little trouble with the Mariners Sunday, as he set them down in order for save No. 33.

Rodney struck out two while picking up the save, and he needed just 13 pitches to shut the door on a 4-1 win. Rodney now has 33 saves in 41 chances, with a 3.59 ERA.

  • Esmil Rogers RP | WAS

Esmil Rogers excels in fifth win

Blue Jays pitcher Esmil Rogers pitched 7 2/3 scoreless innings Sunday, giving up just three hits and a walk while striking out four in his team's 2-0 win over the Twins.

Rogers is on quite a roll after allowing just one hit in 6 1/3 scoreless innings in his last start, which was also a win. He takes a 5-7 record, 4.46 ERA, 1.38 WHIP and 85:36 K:BB ratio into Friday's scheduled matchup with the Orioles.

  • Twins recall seven from Triple-A

The Twins recalled seven players from Triple-A Rochester Sunday, including shortstop Eduardo Escobar, outfielders Eric Fryer and Chris Parmelee, and pitchers Scott Diamond, Michael Tonkin, Cole De Vries and Shairon Martis.

All seven players have previous major-league experience and will serve as depth for the Twins in the final weeks of the season.

  • Hector Santiago takes no-decision

White Sox starting pitcher Hector Santiago had a nice afternoon Saturday against the Orioles in Baltimore. Santiago kept the Orioles offense to just two runs, but settled for a no-decision on the outing.

Santiago left after five innings with the game tied at two runs apiece to take the no-decision. He gave up seven hits, walked two batters and struck out four for the White Sox. His ERA is at 3.44 on the year.

Santiago hasn't won since Aug. 18 and has just the one win since June 21 for the White Sox. Still, his ERA remains solid and his 133 strikeouts over 138 2/3 innings are stellar. He makes his next start for Chicago on Friday against Cleveland.

  • David Robertson still needs time

Yankees reliever David Robertson said Saturday that he feels better, the New York Post reports. That said, he still plans to take 3-4 more days off before he begins playing catch.

Robertson will then complete a bullpen session before he returns for the Yankees. He did say he's not worried that this is a significant injury.
