Lambert allowed five runs on eight hits and a walk with one strikeout in two-plus innings versus Washington on Wednesday. He did not factor in the decision.

Lambert would have taken the loss, but Colorado was able to take the lead in the third inning after a rain delay. The right-hander gave up seven runs, 12 hits and a pair of walks in 5.2 innings across two starts after returning from July 2020 Tommy John surgery. The 24-year-old figures to be a full-time candidate for the Rockies' rotation in 2022.

Vasquez was optioned to Triple-A Oklahoma City on Wednesday.

Vasquez was promoted from Triple-A over the weekend and will return there without appearing in a game for the Dodgers. The left-hander has appeared in only two big-league games this season and has a 3.61 ERA, 1.06 WHIP and 77:24 K:BB over 47.1 innings at Triple-A.

Pirates director of sports medicine Todd Tomczyk said Wednesday that Peters (back) has resumed throwing, Kevin Gorman of TribLive.com reports.

Peters landed on the 10-day injured list with a lower-back strain last week, and he won't have enough time to ramp up his workload prior to the end of the regular season. The southpaw's injury carries a recovery timetable of approximately three weeks, so he should have a fairly normal offseason. Peters made six starts in the big leagues this year and recorded a 3.71 ERA and 1.35 WHIP in 26.2 innings.

Sanmartin is scheduled to start Sunday in the Reds' season finale against the Pirates in Pittsburgh, C. Trent Rosecrans of The Athletic reports.

Cincinnati will reward Sanmartin with a second turn through the rotation after he shined Monday in his MLB debut, which also came against the Pirates. The 25-year-old lefty covered 5.2 innings in the outing, giving up a run on five hits and a walk while striking out five en route to capturing the win. The Reds freed up a spot in the rotation for Sanmartin by moving Vladimir Gutierrez to the bullpen.

The Brewers will place Wililams on the 10-day injured list Wednesday with a fractured right hand, Todd Rosiak of the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel reports.

Williams had been dealing with a calf injury recently, but he'll require surgery on his right hand after he punched a wall Sunday while the Brewers were celebrating their division title. President of baseball operations David Stearns said Wednesday that the right-hander could return for the World Series if the Brewers advance that far, but he's expected to miss significant time. He had recorded three saves and eight holds with a 1.74 ERA and 0.97 WHIP in 20.2 innings since the All-Star break, but Brad Boxberger and Brent Suter will likely handle more setup duties late in the regular season and during the postseason.

Castano (shoulder) tossed three innings out of the bullpen Tuesday in the Marlins' 5-2 loss to the Mets in the first game of a doubleheader. He allowed two runs (one earned) on two hits and a walk while striking out three.

Miami recalled Castano from Triple-A Jacksonville prior to the twin bill, and he worked out of the bullpen for what marked his first appearance for the Marlins since May after an extended stay on the 60-day injured list due to shoulder inflammation before he was reinstated and optioned to Triple-A on Aug. 19. Manager Don Mattingly deployed Castano as a bulk reliever behind starter Zach Thompson, who was lifted after one inning and 20 pitches. Since he tossed 48 pitches Tuesday, Castano likely won't be available again out of the bullpen until the Marlins' season finale Sunday versus the Phillies.

Diaz struck out two in a perfect seventh inning to claim his 31st save of the season Tuesday in the Mets' 5-2 win over the Marlins in the first game of a doubleheader.

Since blowing back-to-back save chances against the Nationals earlier this month, Diaz has responded by allowing only one unearned run over his subsequent seven appearances while nabbing three saves along the way. Though his 3.50 ERA is higher than fantasy managers might have anticipated, a 2.52 FIP, 1.07 WHIP and a 25.2 K-BB% all exemplify how dependable he's been at the back of the New York bullpen, despite some high-profile blowups.

Lambert is scheduled to start Wednesday's game against the Nationals in Colorado.

After missing the entire 2020 season while recovering from Tommy John surgery, Lambert made his first appearance with the Rockies since September 2019 last weekend against the Giants at Coors Field. He covered 3.2 innings in the start, giving up two runs on four hits and a walk while striking out two. The Rockies may loosen the reins a bit on Lambert in his final outing of 2021 on Wednesday, but an afternoon game in Colorado is hardly an ideal setup for the right-hander, even against a 93-loss Nationals squad.

Padres manager Jayce Tingler said Weathers will start Wednesday's game against the Dodgers in Los Angeles, 97.3 The Fan San Diego reports.

After a run of rough starts following the All-Star break, Weathers was dropped from the rotation in late August and has spent the past month in the bullpen. He's achieved better results while working in a low-leverage role (one earned run allowed, 8:1 K:BB in 8.1 innings), but Weathers will be moved back to the rotation out of necessity for the final week of the season with Chris Paddack (elbow) and Blake Snell (groin) on the shelf and Jake Arrieta no longer with the organization. Weathers will be pitching on three days' rest after covering two innings in relief Saturday versus Atlanta, so he likely won't be asked to work especially deep into Wednesday's start.

Wingeter recently underwent back surgery and won't return to pitch this season, per MLB.com.

The right-handed reliever underwent Tommy John surgery last July but was hoping to make a late-season return to the Padres bullpen. He started a rehab assignment in August but was shut down after three outings due to a back injury. Wingeter underwent a microdiscectomy in mid-September and is expected to be fully ready to go come spring training.
