  • Jhony Brito RP | SD

Padres' Jhony Brito: Goes on Triple-A IL

Triple-A El Paso placed Brito on its 7-day injured list Aug. 23 with an unspecified injury.

The Padres optioned Brito to Triple-A on Aug. 11, with the right-hander making one appearance for El Paso before going down with an injury. The severity of the injury isn't known, making it unclear whether Brito has a chance to pitch again before the 2024 season concludes.

  • David Bednar RP | PIT

Pirates' David Bednar: Throws clean ninth inning

Bednar struck out one and didn't allow a baserunner in the ninth inning Tuesday against the Cubs.

Bednar entered the game with a 5-0 lead and turned in his second consecutive scoreless appearance since losing the closer job for the Pirates. It's unclear whether the team will return him to the role if he continues to show improved form in low-leverage situations.

  • Diamondbacks' Justin Martinez: Secures eighth save

Martinez picked up the save in Tuesday's 8-7 win over the Giants, allowing one run on three hits and a walk while striking out three over 1.1 innings.

Martinez entered with two outs in the eighth and the Giants up 7-5 and gave up an RBI single before retiring Luis Matos to get out of the inning. The Diamondbacks went on to score an insurance run in the bottom of the frame, and it proved to be a big one, as Martinez allowed two more hits and a run in the ninth but ultimately shut the door. Martinez is now a perfect 8-for-8 in save chances since taking over the closer role, but he has allowed six runs (four earned) over his last nine appearances. For the year, he holds a 2.18 ERA, 1.27 WHIP and 78:31 K:BB in 62 innings.

  • Braves' Raisel Iglesias: Notches 29th save

Iglesias struck out one in a perfect ninth inning Tuesday to record his 29th save of the season in a 3-0 win over the Rockies.

The right-hander fired seven of 12 pitches for strikes as he collected his first save since Aug. 22. Iglesias has gone 26 straight appearances without giving up an earned run, posting a minuscule 0.30 WHIP in 30.1 innings over that stretch with a 36:3 K:BB. His next successful conversion will give Iglesias his fifth career 30-save campaign.

  • Matt Strahm RP | PHI

Phillies' Matt Strahm: Collects second save

Strahm struck out two and gave up a solo home run to Leo Jimenez in the ninth inning Tuesday to record his second save of the season in a 10-9 win over the Blue Jays.

Carlos Estevez and Jeff Hoffman have each seen a heavy workload lately, while Jose Alvarado and Orion Kerkering had been called upon earlier in the night, so closing duties fell to Strahm. Since the beginning of August, the southpaw has a 1.42 ERA, 0.71 WHIP and 14:3 K:BB through 12.2 innings while collecting one save, two wins and five holds in 13 appearances, but the Phillies' wealth of high-leverage options won't afford Strahm many more save chances down the stretch.

  • Ryan Helsley RP | STL

Cardinals' Ryan Helsley: Blows save but collects win

Helsley (7-4) blew the save but collected the win in Tuesday's extra-innings victory against the Brewers. He allowed one unearned run on one hit and no walks with four strikeouts over two innings.

The St. Louis flamethrower entered the 11th inning but was unable to hold a one-run lead, allowing the automatic runner to score on a Willy Adames double after striking out the first two batters. Helsley was then allowed to return in the 12th after the Cardinals scored three runs in the top of the inning and promptly set down all three batters faced. The All-Star closer has now gone 42-for-46 in save opportunities while pitching to a 2.41 ERA, 1.17 WHIP and 68:23 K:BB across 59.2 innings this season.

  • Ethan Roberts RP | CHC

Cubs' Ethan Roberts: Pitches well in relief Tuesday

Roberts tossed two scoreless innings of relief in Tuesday's 5-0 loss to the Pirates. He allowed one hit and struck out three.

Roberts was pulled from an appearance last week due to right ankle soreness, but he's now logged two scoreless outings since then. The righty is pitching in a low-leverage role for the Cubs and has mostly looked sharp with a 2.60 ERA and 17 strikeouts across 17.1 innings. Roberts still has a high 1.62 WHIP, however, due largely to the seven walks he's issued during his brief time in the majors this season. The 27-year-old will likely be a volatile option unless he starts to exhibit better command.

  • Tyson Miller RP | CHC

Cubs' Tyson Miller: Rough outing again Tuesday

Miller allowed three runs on two hits and a walk across an inning of relief in Tuesday's 5-0 loss to the Pirates.

Chicago already trailed 2-0 when Miller came on in the seventh inning, so the righty didn't take the loss, though he didn't help his team's cause, either. Miller allowed a three-run bomb to Jared Triolo, who has just a .599 OPS this season, to cap off the rough outing. This is the second time in his last three appearances that Miller has allowed three runs, but he still has a strong 2.61 ERA overall, so it's probably not time to hit the panic button quite yet.

  • Marlins' Emmanuel Ramirez: Dumped from 40-man roster

The Marlins designated Ramirez for assignment Tuesday.

The right-hander was optioned to Triple-A Jacksonville in late August and has now lost his place on the 40-man roster. Ramirez posted a 6.97 ERA in 15 outings for Miami this season but pitched well for Jacksonville with a 3.76 ERA, 1.17 WHIP and 51:16 K:BB across 40.2 innings.

  • Kent Emanuel RP | MIA

Marlins' Kent Emanuel: Designated for assignment

The Marlins designated Emanuel for assignment Tuesday.

It's the fifth time Emanuel has been designated for assignment by the Marlins this season. He hasn't been effective when up in the majors and has a 6.62 ERA, 1.53 WHIP and 12:7 K:BB over 17.2 innings. He'll likely head back to Triple-A Jacksonville if he passes through waivers unclaimed.
