The Mets selected Kranick's contract from Triple-A Syracuse on Tuesday, Mike Puma of the New York Post reports.

Kranick was booted off the Mets' 40-man roster back in May and has yet to pitch for them at the major-league level. However, the club has elected to add him to its roster for the wild-card series against the Brewers in a long-relief role. Kranick posted a 3.82 ERA and 64:24 K:BB over 70.2 innings this season at Syracuse.

Diaz (6-4) blew the save but picked up the win in the first game of Monday's doubleheader against Atlanta, giving up two runs on three hits and a walk over 1.2 innings. He struck out two.

With both teams needing at least one win in the twin bill to lock up a wild-card spot, the matinee featured a wild, desperate finish that saw 12 of the game's 15 runs cross the plate over the final two innings. Diaz came on with one out and two on in the eighth, and after retiring Gio Urshela, the Mets' closer missed his chance to escape the frame unscathed when he was late covering first base on a Jarred Kelenic grounder down the line that Pete Alonso dove to stop well behind the bag. Atlanta wound up taking a 7-6 lead, but when New York tacked on two more runs in the top of the ninth, Diaz was able to slam the door shut. It was his first blown save since Aug. 28, and only the second time in 13 September appearances that the right-hander had been scored upon. Diaz heads into the playoffs with a 1.93 ERA, 1.00 WHIP and 26:5 K:BB over 14 innings in the final month of the regular season.

The Mets optioned Young to Triple-A Syracuse on Monday, Mike Puma of the New York Post reports.

He's clearing out to make room on the roster for Joey Lucchesi, who will start the second game of Monday's doubleheader in Atlanta. Young has permitted five runs with a 13:7 K:BB over 13.2 innings with the Mets this season.

Holmes will start the second game of Monday's doubleheader versus the Mets, David O'Brien of The Athletic reports.

He will sub in for Chris Sale -- who had to be scratched due to back spasms -- with a postseason berth on the line. Holmes made six starts and 19 relief appearances for Atlanta this season, posting a 3.78 ERA and 63:14 K:BB over 64.1 frames. His last start came on Sept. 22 when he went four innings and threw 62 pitches against the Marlins. Holmes also threw 1.2 innings and 21 pitches in a relief outing Sunday, so he will be quite limited in what he can offer length-wise Monday.

Santos, who was activated from the injured list last Monday, subsequently made two relief appearances during which he fired two scoreless innings while allowing one hit and recording one strikeout.

Santos got back on the bump at the major-league level for the first time since July 31 when he earned his second hold with a scoreless seventh inning in the series opener against the Athletics on Friday. He logged one more frame during Sunday's regular-season finale, getting through the eighth inning on just nine pitches. It was a modest but encouraging season-ending sample for Santos, who didn't make his 2024 debut until July due to a lat strain and then missed nearly two months with a biceps injury. The hard-throwing right-hander played on a one-year deal this season, and it remains to be seen if the Mariners will want to take another look considering Santos logged all of 7.1 innings across eight appearances due to the injuries.

The Blue Jays recalled Eisert from Triple-A Buffalo on Sunday.

Eisert was up as bullpen protection in the season finale and went two scoreless innings against the Marlins. Yariel Rodriguez was sent down in a corresponding move.

The Cubs transferred Merryweather (knee) to the 60-day injured list Sunday.

The transaction clears a spot on the 40-man roster. Merryweather underwent right knee surgery earlier this month to address tendinitis.

Bender issued one walk over 1.1 scoreless innings Sunday, striking out two and earning a save against the Blue Jays.

Bender threw just 13 of 25 pitches for strikes but still closed out the 3-1 win without much trouble. It was his first outing of more than one inning pitched since July 26. Bender finishes his 2024 season at 5-2 with a 4.08 ERA, one save, 15 holds and a 59:18 K:BB through 53 frames.

Yarbrough allowed four hits over 3.2 scoreless innings in a no-decision Sunday. He struck out three during the loss to Miami.

Yarbrough did not allow a runner to reach scoring position during his outing. He gave up four runs over his final 26.1 innings, dropping his season ERA from 3.86 to a career-best 3.19. He threw 98.2 innings in 44 appearances this season with the Dodgers and Blue Jays.

Bubic picked up the save Sunday against Atlanta, allowing one hit and no walks with one strikeout across a scoreless ninth inning.

The Royals opted for Bubic in the ninth inning, giving regular closer Lucas Erceg extra rest ahead of the playoffs. Bubic capitalized with his first save of 2024. Erceg hasn't pitched since Thursday, though that outing was his third in as many days. Bubic should see high-leverage work in the postseason, but save opportunities are still expected to go to Erceg.
