Winckowski threw a perfect inning and earned a save against the White Sox on Friday.

Winckowski made his second appearance since being recalled from Triple-A Worcester on Aug. 27. In those two outings, he's combined to toss four scoreless innings, dropping his season ERA to 4.10. Boston's ninth-inning job appears to be somewhat open at the moment with Kenley Jansen (lat) sidelined for an indefinite period. Winckowski now has four career saves, with the previous three coming during the 2023 campaign.

Urena did not factor into the decision Friday, allowing three runs (two earned) on three hits and two walks over 5.2 innings against the Angels. He struck out three.

The veteran right-hander served as the bulk reliever, firing 75 pitches and finishing the game after Gerson Garabito and Walter Pennington began the contest with 3.1 combined innings. All three runs Urena allowed came via a homer by Logan O'Hoppe in the sixth inning. The 32-year-old has been a versatile arm for manager Bruce Bochy, plugging holes created by numerous rotation injuries this season. Urena's made 32 appearances -- including nine starts -- while pitching to a 3.69 ERA, 1.32 WHIP and 68:38 K:BB across 107.1 innings.

Jansen indicated after Friday's game against the White Sox that he was unavailable to pitch due to a lat issue, Julian McWilliams of The Boston Globe reports.

The Red Sox had a save situation in Friday's game, but Josh Winckowski got the call in the ninth inning instead. Jansen didn't provide a specific timeline for his return, saying that he wouldn't pitch again until the issue is fully resolved. Winckowski appears to be the next man up as closer, but Chris Martin, Justin Slaten and even Liam Hendriks (elbow) might also be factors in the ninth depending on how long Jansen is unavailable.

Junis will start Saturday's game against the Mets, Gordon Wittenmyer of The Cincinnati Enquirer reports.

Junis was expected to serve as the bulk reliever behind Fernando Cruz on Friday, but the Reds instead had Brandon Williamson fill that role. Junis is now set up for a start Saturday, after he had previously piggybacked Williamson in the latter's 2024 Reds debut this past Sunday versus the Brewers. The right-hander has worked four and 3.2 innings in his last two outings, so he has an outside chance at working deep enough into Saturday's start to qualify for a win.

Iglesias earned the save in Friday's 3-1 win versus Toronto, pitching a scoreless inning with three strikeouts while allowing two hits.

The Atlanta closer's scoreless appearances streak now stands at 21, as he worked around a two-out double by Joey Loperfido in this 15-pitch outing. During the streak, Iglesias has accumulated 31 strikeouts against just three walks across 24.1 innings while securing 10 saves. Overall, the 34-year-old has pitched to a 1.22 ERA, 0.63 WHIP and 61:10 K:BB while going 31-for-34 in save opportunities across 59 innings this season.

Kinley earned the save in Friday's 3-2 win over the Brewers, issuing one walk in a scoreless ninth inning.

The Brewers got the tying run into scoring position against Kinley, after the right-hander walked Jake Bauers with one out before Brewer Hicklen swiped second base as a pinch runner. However, Kinley would escape with his 10th save of the year after Hicklen was thrown out at third trying to advance on a Rhys Hoskins flyout. The 33-year-old Kinley has now converted his last three save chances, including two in back-to-back days. His ERA sits at 6.08 on the season with a 1.47 WHIP and 67:31 K:BB across 60.2 innings. Kinley may soon return to a set-up role, however, with Victor Vodnik (biceps) nearing a return.

Anderson was placed on the 15-day injured list Friday, retroactive to Sept. 5, with a right ankle contusion.

The right-hander was forced to leave Wednesday's game after a 103 mph comebacker off the bat of Jazz Chisholm caromed off his ankle. Anderson appears to have escaped with nothing more than a bruise, but it will still cost him at least a couple weeks and could perhaps end his season. Owen White was recalled in a corresponding move.

White was recalled from Triple-A Round Rock on Friday.

Four days after he was sent down, White will return to the big-league roster to replace Grant Anderson (ankle) in the Rangers' bullpen. White has split his time between the rotation and bullpen at Round Rock this season, posting a 5.55 ERA, 1.52 WHIP and 82:45 K:BB in 95.2 total innings. He's allowed a total of six runs in two appearances in the majors this season.

Marinaccio was optioned to Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre after Friday's game against the Cubs.

The move opens up a spot for Clarke Schmidt (lat), who will return from the 60-day injured list to start Saturday in Chicago. Marinaccio has been more than serviceable for the Yankees this season, but he continues to bounce between levels as the team takes full advantage of the roster flexibility provided by his minor-league option.

The Dodgers optioned Petersen to Triple-A Oklahoma City on Friday.

Petersen was recalled from Triple-A on Monday, and he's allowed four runs across two outings since his promotion. Across 11 major-league appearances this season, he's posted a 6.43 ERA and 1.57 WHIP in 14 innings.
