Bednar gave up a hit and struck out one in a scoreless ninth inning Tuesday to record his 25th save of the season in a 7-4 win over the Mets.

The right-hander appears to be returning to form after getting tagged for five runs over three appearances earlier in August. Bedner's numbers on the season remain exceptional, and through 49.2 innings he sports a 1.99 ERA, 1.02 WHIP and 60:15 K:BB while converting 25 of 28 save chances.

Romano (back) struck out two in a perfect ninth inning Tuesday to record his 29th save of the season in a 2-1 win over the Phillies.

In his first appearance since being activated from the injured list earlier in the day, Romano fired eight of 11 pitches for strikes and topped out at 99.6 mph with his fastball, fanning Bryce Harper and Nick Castellanos along the way. The right-hander appears set to immediately resume closing duties for Toronto, with Jordan Hicks and Erik Swanson slipping back into setup roles.

Effross (elbow) has been throwing bullpens and hopes to progress to tossing live batting practice in September or October, Gary Phillips of the New York Daily News reports.

Effross is recovering from Tommy John surgery and won't return to the Yankees this season. However, his recent progress and his intention to throw to live hitters in the next month or two suggest that the righty reliever could be ready to go by spring training next year. Effross had elbow surgery last October, so he'll be just over 16 months removed from the procedure when the 2024 spring training slate kicks off.

Sewald picked up the save in Tuesday's 8-5 win over the Rockies. He allowed three hits and struck out one over a scoreless inning.

Though Sewald got himself into a bases-loaded, one-out jam in the ninth, he managed to retire Charlie Blackmon and Ezequiel Tovar to cap off his third save as a Diamondback and the 24th of the 2023 campaign. After being rocked for three runs and two home runs in his first appearance with Arizona, Sewald has bounced back with three straight scoreless innings and has converted on all three save attempts during that span. On the year, Sewald owns a 3.26 ERA and a 66:16 K:BB through 47 innings.

Blach did not factor into the decision Tuesday, allowing two runs on six hits and two walks over five innings against the Diamondbacks. He struck out two.

Blach managed to escape Tuesday's home start relatively unscathed, with all of the damage against him coming via a two-run homer by Christian Walker in the third. Blach has been a reliable arm for the Rockies since entering the rotation and owns a 3.05 ERA with an 8:6 K:BB over his last four outings (20.2 innings). He's tentatively scheduled to make his next appearance on the road against the Rays.

Munoz (3-5) recorded the win Tuesday against Kansas City despite being charged with a blown save, allowing three unearned runs on two hits and two walks over 1.2 innings.

Despite being afforded a three-run lead with three outs to go, Munoz was unable to convert the save after giving up a pair of walks and singles apiece as part of a three-run inning. However, the Mariners managed to pull out the victory in extra innings, allowing Munoz to pick up his third win of the season. Munoz has now allowed a run to score in four of his last five appearances (5.2 innings) and owns a 2.12 WHIP during that span.

Yarbrough allowed a run on one hit and struck out two over three innings to earn the save in Tuesday's 6-2 win over the Brewers.

Yarbrough allowed a solo home run to Carlos Santana to start the seventh inning, then retired the next nine batters in a row. The three-inning outing earned Yarbrough his first major-league save. The southpaw has allowed two runs over 10.1 innings across his three appearances with the Dodgers, though it appears he's going to remain in a long-relief role with the rotation in a healthier state than when he arrived a couple of weeks ago. For the year, he's at a 3.82 ERA, 1.08 WHIP and 38:9 K:BB through 61.1 innings between the Dodgers and the Royals.

Walker will serve as the Giants' opening pitcher for Wednesday's game against the Rays, Susan Slusser of the San Francisco Chronicle reports.

Walker turned in a solid performance during his last time out as San Francisco's opener Monday, throwing two scoreless innings and striking out four batters. The 27-year-old righty has been extremely effective with a 2.28 ERA through 43.1 innings this season, but he'll likely remain in the game Wednesday only for the first two or three frames. Ross Stripling will most likely work in bulk relief behind Walker.

Manaea (4-3) allowed a hit and two walks while striking out five over 3.1 shutout innings to earn the win Tuesday over the Rays.

Manaea ultimately served as a piggyback to Jakob Junis, who started and pitched four scoreless innings. With just one run allowed over his last 15 innings (six appearances), Manaea is enjoying one of his best stretches of the season. He's trimmed his ERA to 4.89 with a 1.26 WHIP and 99:31 K:BB through 81 innings over 29 outings (six starts). The Giants continue to have rather fluid roles for many pitchers, including Manaea, who is unlikely to be available again until Sunday at the earliest.

McArthur will serve as the Royals' opening pitcher for Wednesday's game versus Seattle, Anne Rogers of MLB.com reports.

McArthur will be making the first start of his major-league career Wednesday. The 26-year-old righty has allowed two runs over four innings since being recalled from Triple-A Omaha on Aug. 4. He'll likely pitch for an inning or two before turning the game over to the bullpen, with Alec Marsh likely to serve as the Royals' primary pitcher.
