Toronto optioned Pearson to Triple-A Buffalo on Wednesday, Shi Davidi of Sportsnet.ca reports.

Pearson allowed four earned runs on one hit and three walks in a one-inning appearance Tuesday against the Orioles as his season ERA climbed to 5.31. Thomas Hatch is replacing him in the Blue Jays' bullpen.

Toronto recalled Hatch from Triple-A Buffalo on Wednesday, Shi Davidi of Sportsnet.ca reports.

The 28-year-old right-hander will replace Nate Pearson in the Blue Jays' bullpen ahead of Wednesday night's game against the Orioles. Hatch holds a career 5.28 ERA and 43:25 K:BB in 44.1 innings of work at the major-league level.

Kansas City optioned McArthur to Triple-A Omaha on Wednesday.

McArthur was only up in the majors for one day and did not make an appearance. The 26-year-old right-hander got lit up for seven earned runs while recording only three outs in his major-league debut back on June 28 against the Guardians.

Kansas City optioned Kowar to Triple-A Omaha on Wednesday.

James McArthur has also been sent to Omaha, with Cole Ragans and Tucker Davidson joining the Royals ahead of Wednesday night's game against the Mets. Kowar, 26, did not make an appearance during his one-day stint on the major-league roster.

Baltimore optioned Baker to Triple-A Norfolk on Wednesday.

This move frees up a 26-man roster spot for starter Jack Flaherty, who was acquired from the Cardinals just before Tuesday's trade deadline. Baker has posted a steady 3.64 ERA and 51:24 K:BB through 42 innings of relief this season with the Orioles and should return to their bullpen mix at some point down the stretch.

Romano (back) played catch on flat ground Wednesday, Arden Zwelling of Sportsnet.ca reports.

Romano picked up a baseball for the first time since he landed on the 15-day injured list this past Saturday due to lower-back inflammation. He could advance to mound work sometime this weekend and might be able to return to the Blue Jays when first eligible Aug. 13. Yimi Garcia logged the most recent save for Toronto last Friday against the Angels, and the Jays also added Jordan Hicks from the Cardinals ahead of Tuesday's trade deadline. Once Romano is healthy, however, he shouldn't face any competition for saves.

Cronin announced Wednesday via his personal Instagram account that he underwent season-ending surgery to address a herniated disc.

Cronin hadn't pitched for Triple-A Rochester since mid-May due to what was a previously undisclosed injury, but the 25-year-old left-hander took to social media to shed more light on his situation. In his post, Cronin noted that he had been dealing with left shoulder and arm pain for two years, but it wasn't until he had his spine examined last month that doctors were able to determine the source of his discomfort. Cronin, who occupies a spot on the Nationals' 40-man roster, is without a clear timeline to resume full baseball activities and may face an uphill battle to gain clearance for the start of spring training.

Silseth is scheduled to start Sunday versus the Mariners at Angel Stadium.

Silseth was expected to lose his spot in the rotation after the Angels acquired Lucas Giolito from the White Sox last week, but the right-hander will end up making two starts this week after Griffin Canning (calf) was unexpectedly scratched Monday before moving to the 15-day injured list a day later. The Angels are hopeful that Canning will be able to return from the IL when first eligible Aug. 13, so Silseth's upcoming start could be his last before he heads back to the bullpen or to Triple-A Salt Lake. Silseth has held his own against the Yankees and Atlanta his last two times out, picking up wins on both occasions while striking out 14 and issuing only two walks over 10.2 innings.

Lambert was recalled from Triple-A Charlotte on Wednesday.

The 28-year-old right-hander will fill the bullpen spot left vacant by Tuesday's trade of Keynan Middleton to the Yankees. Lambert was a key contributor out of the White Sox bullpen in 2022, but he has struggled to a 6.29 ERA and 1.77 WHIP through 24.1 major-league innings this season.

Honeywell was designated for assignment by the Padres on Wednesday.

Honeywell made the Opening Day roster out of Padres camp this spring and has managed to stay healthy, but the 28-year-old former Rays prospect had surrendered seven earned runs over his last 7.1 innings (seven appearances) dating back to June 30. He heads into DFA limbo showing an overall 4.05 ERA, 1.37 WHIP and 42:20 K:BB across 46.2 innings of relief this year.
