Doval picked up the save in Friday's 6-4 win over the Pirates. He allowed one hit without a walk or a strikeout over a scoreless inning.

Make it 27 saves in 29 chances for Doval -- more saves than anyone else in baseball. The right-hander was a deserving All-Star selection, and in an era of bullpen committees, he has full ownership of the ninth inning in San Francisco. The rest of the Giants' bullpen has eight saves combined this season.

Hader picked up the save Friday against the Phillies. He struck out one over a perfect two-thirds of an inning.

The Padres led 8-1 heading into the bottom of the ninth, but Luis Garcia made a mess of things and brought the tying run to the on-deck circle, creating a save chance. Hader struck out Trea Turner and got Nick Castellanos to fly out on a total of 10 pitches to end the game. After a shaky initial run with San Diego down the stretch last season, Hader has returned to dominant form in 2023, securing 22 saves in 25 chances.

Jansen struck out the only batter he faced to secure a save against the Cubs on Friday.

Jansen entered the game after Tayler Scott loaded the bases and struck out Mike Tauchman on three pitches to finish things off. Jansen has now converted 20 of his 23 save chances this season, including 11 straight. He lowered his ERA to 3.19 with a 37:13 K:BB through 31 frames.

Williams picked up the save in Friday's 1-0 win over Cincinnati. He struck out two over a perfect inning.

Williams nailed down the win for starter Corbin Burnes and completed the shutout for Milwaukee, bringing the Brewers back into a tie for first place in the NL Central. He needed just 14 pitches to retire the side in order. An All-Star for the second consecutive year, Williams is now 21-for-23 in save chances this season with a sparkling 1.83 ERA.

Jimenez (shoulder) will throw live batting practice Saturday, Sonja Chen of MLB.com reports.

After earning his only save of the season Opening Day, Jimenez had his season interrupted by a right shoulder strain in mid-April. After a fairly long shutdown period, he began ramping up and now appears to be on the verge of embarking on a minor-league rehab assignment. He's no sure thing to return to a high-leverage role, but it's possible he could end up handling ninth-inning duties if the A's trade Trevor May. Jimenez is not arbitration eligible until 2025, making him less likely to be dealt in a fire sale.

Chavez (shin) said Friday that he hopes to throw a bullpen session next week, David O'Brien of The Athletic reports.

Chavez's time on the shelf will extend beyond a month, but if he stays on schedule from here, he could return to the Atlanta bullpen in about two weeks. The veteran right-hander was pitching brilliantly before suffering a shin contusion on a comebacker (1.55 ERA, 1.03 WHIP). Chavez will pitch important innings for the team down the stretch, but there probably won't be many leftover saves available behind the likes of Raisel Iglesias, Kirby Yates and A.J. Minter (shoulder).

Lovelady was placed on the 15-day injured list with an undisclosed injury Friday.

He was just reinstated less than two weeks ago after missing time with an elbow strain, so his arm likely started barking again. Freddy Tarnok was recalled from Triple-A to take Lovelady's place on the active roster.

Barnes will undergo surgery on his left hip July 25, Jordan McPherson of the Miami Herald reports.

According to McPherson, Barnes won't be cleared for running and throwing until three months following his surgery, which effectively means that his season is over. A move to the 60-day injured list seems inevitable should the Marlins need to open a spot on the 40-man roster at some point, and he'll finish the 2023 campaign with a 5.48 ERA and 1.64 WHIP across 21.1 innings. Given that Miami holds a $9 million club option on the right-hander for 2024 with a $2.75 million buyout, it's possible he's pitched his last game for the club.

Moore (oblique) was reinstated from the 15-day injured list Friday.

As expected, Moore will resume his reliever role for the outset of the second half after missing seven weeks with an oblique injury. He has a 1.44 ERA, 0.80 WHIP and 21 strikeouts in 25 innings.

Rolison (undisclosed) was transferred to the 60-day injured list Friday.

Rolison has been on the injured list in Triple-A since June 4 and now finds himself on the 60-day IL for the second time this season. The move will keep him out of action in the minors through the beginning of August and opens a 40-man spot for Tommy Doyle, who was selected from Albuquerque on Friday.
