  • Will Vest RP | DET

Tigers' Will Vest: Secures 19th save

Vest retired all four batters he faced to earn the save in Saturday's 4-2 win over the Royals. He recorded two strikeouts.

Vest was summoned with a runner on third in the eighth inning and struck out Maikel Garcia before working a clean ninth. The 30-year-old has held opponents scoreless in eight of 10 August outings and now sports a 2.67 ERA, 1.05 WHIP and 64:16 K:BB across 57.1 frames while converting 19 of 24 save chances. He continues to split closing duties with Kyle Finnegan, who was likely unavailable after throwing two innings Friday.

  • Chris Martin RP | TEX

    Rangers' Chris Martin: Another setback

Martin (calf) left Saturday's live batting practice session early and will not be reinstated from the injured list anytime soon, Jeff Wilson of AllDLLS.com reports.

Martin seemingly sustained a setback Saturday in his recovery from a left calf strain. The reliever has been on the shelf since July 26 and was initially given a 4-to-6-week timeline for return. However, the 39-year-old will likely need more than six weeks and shouldn't be expected back until mid-September, at the earliest.

  • Jordan Wicks SP | CHC

Cubs' Jordan Wicks: Back in bigs

The Cubs recalled Wicks from Triple-A Iowa on Saturday, Maddie Lee of the Chicago Sun-Times reports.

Wicks served as the 27th man in Wednesday's doubleheader before being returned to Iowa. Just a couple of days later, he'll join the 26-man roster in place of Javier Assad. Wicks should work out of the bullpen, a role in which he's struggled during 2025 while compiling a 9.72 ERA across 8.1 innings with Chicago.

  • Royals' Jonathan Bowlan: Joining 26-man roster

The Royals recalled Bowlan from Triple-A Omaha on Saturday.

Bowlan rejoins the big-league bullpen after three weeks at Omaha, filling the spot vacated by Bailey Falter (bicep), who was placed on the 15-day injured list. Bowlan has a 4.73 ERA and a 24:11 K:BB across 26.2 innings for the Royals this season.

  • Cody Poteet RP | BAL

Orioles' Cody Poteet: Kicking off rehab stint

Poteet (shoulder) is beginning a minor-league rehab assignment with Triple-A Norfolk on Saturday, Roch Kubatko of MASNSports.com reports.

Poteet has been on the shelf since late April due to right shoulder inflammation. He has made only one regular-season appearance this year, allowing five runs over 2.2 innings against Cincinnati on April 20. Poteet will presumably need to make several rehab outings given the length of his absence. He could be activated by the Orioles sometime in September if he doesn't experience any setbacks.

  • Kirby Yates RP | LAA

Dodgers' Kirby Yates: Brought off IL

The Dodgers activated Yates (back) from the 15-day injured list Saturday, Jeff Sanders of The San Diego Union-Tribune reports.

As expected, Yates rejoins the active roster Saturday after a three-week stint on the injured list with lower-back pain. The 38-year-old has a 4.31 ERA in 31.1 innings this season, and he should work in a set-up role for closer Tanner Scott. The Dodgers placed Blake Snell on the paternity list in a corresponding move.

  • Bennett Sousa RP | HOU

Astros' Bennett Sousa: Won't throw for multiple weeks

Sousa has been diagnosed with a "low-grade elbow flexor/pronator strain" and will not throw for at least two weeks, Matt Kawahara of the Houston Chronicle reports.

Sousa landed on the injured list Friday and underwent an MRI, the results of which revealed the flexor/pronator strain. The southpaw will be evaluated in early September, and he's expected to be sidelined from any throwing for a minimum of two weeks. This is a big blow to Houston's bullpen, as Sousa has excelled with a 2.84 ERA, 1.03 WHIP and 59:15 K:BB over 50.2 innings while notching four saves and eight holds across 44 appearances.

  • Shawn Dubin RP | ARI

Astros' Shawn Dubin: Designated for assignment

The Astros designated Dubin for assignment Saturday, Matt Kawahara of the Houston Chronicle reports.

Dubin has had an injury-plagued campaign, as he's dealt with separate shoulder, ankle and forearm issues at points this season. The right-hander has struggled during his time with Houston, posting a 5.61 ERA, 1.48 WHIP and 21:8 K:BB over 25.2 innings. AJ Blubaugh was called up from Triple-A Sugar Land in a corresponding move, but perhaps the more important aspect of Dubin being DFA'd is that it opens up a spot on the Astros' 40-man roster. That spot will likely go to Yordan Alvarez (hand), who is close to being activated from the 60-day IL.

  • Mets' Huascar Brazoban: Summoned from Syracuse

The Mets recalled Brazoban from Triple-A Syracuse on Saturday.

Brazoban will rejoin the Mets bullpen Saturday, taking Frankie Montas' (elbow) spot as Montas heads to the injured list. Brazoban has a 3.83 ERA and 51:26 K:BB across 51.2 MLB innings this season. He's likely to be used in low-leverage scenarios.

  • Nabil Crismatt RP | TEX

Diamondbacks' Nabil Crismatt: Set for bulk relief

Crismatt will follow opener Jalen Beeks during Saturday's game against the Reds, Alex D'Agostino of SI.com reports.

Crismatt was initially scheduled to start Saturday's contest, but the Diamondbacks will have Beeks handle the first inning or two before having Crismatt take the mound. Crismatt made his 2025 MLB debut Sunday, when he yielded one run across five innings in a start against the Rockies.
