  • Tyler Matzek RP | NYY

Braves' Tyler Matzek: Collects third win

Matzek (3-2) picked up the win Sunday over the Marlins, allowing one hit and striking out one in a scoreless eighth inning.

Atlanta was in a 1-0 hole when Matzek took the mound, but he kept the deficit from getting worse and was rewarded when his team rallied in the top of the ninth. The southpaw has two wins and a save in his last three appearances, and in 17 innings since the beginning of July he sports a 2.65 ERA and 1.12 WHIP, albeit with a lackluster 13:8 K:BB.

  • Ryan Yarbrough RP | NYY

Rays' Ryan Yarbrough: Following opener Monday

Yarborough will enter the game after opener Jalen Beeks on Monday against the Yankees, Marc Topkin of the Tampa Bay Times reports.

Yarbrough will follow Beeks for the second time in August after he pitched four innings of one-run ball versus the Blue Jays on Aug. 2. Yarbrough last faced the Yankees on May 26, allowing three runs (two earned) on two hits and a walk while striking out five in a loss.

  • Jalen Beeks RP | TEX

Rays' Jalen Beeks: Operating as opener

Beeks will start Monday's contest versus the Yankees, Marc Topkin of the Tampa Bay Times reports.

Beeks will operate as the opener Monday before Ryan Yarbrough enters the game as the primary pitcher. Beeks has allowed one run over six innings in five appearances since returning from the 15-day injured list July 30.

  • Red Sox's Josh Winckowski: Available in relief

Winckowski will move to the bullpen and piggyback Rich Hill in Wednesday's game against the Pirates, Chris Cotillo of MassLive.com reports.

Hill's spot in the rotation is shaky after a couple of troubling outings off the injured list -- eight runs allowed over seven innings -- but he'll stick in the rotation for at least one more start. With Michael Wacha returning Sunday, the rotation is at full strength, which means Winckowski can serve as a bulk reliever for now.

  • Jose Leclerc RP | SD

Rangers' Jose Leclerc: Picks up save

Leclerc struck out one over a scoreless ninth inning to earn the save in Sunday's 5-3 win over the Mariners.

Rangers closer Jonathan Hernandez was seemingly unavailable after throwing two straight days and three of the last four, opening the door for Leclerc to pick up his first save since 2020. He's pitched well since returning from the break, posting a 1.88 ERA over 10 games (14.1 IP), which earned him a promotion to high-leverage work and put him in line for a spot save opportunity.

  • Ryan Pressly RP | CHC

Astros' Ryan Pressly: Picks up save

Pressly (neck) picked up the save in Sunday's 6-3 victory over the Athletics, allowing no runs on one hit while striking out none and walking none over two-thirds of an inning.

Pressly needed just six pitches to get the save, his 23rd of the season. He is 2-for-2 in chances this month. The righty has not allowed an earned run in his last four appearances, and has allowed just two earned runs in his last 12.2 innings pitched. His ERA now sits at 2.86 to go along with 43 strikeouts and a 0.95 WHIP.

  • Miguel Castro RP | CHW

Yankees' Miguel Castro: Resumes playing catch

Castro (shoulder) has begun to play catch and is expected to return to the Yankees' bullpen in September, per MLB.com.

Castro has been out of action action since July 10, and he's not eligible to return from the 60-day IL until mid-September. The right-hander will likely need significant time to ramp up once he's able to start throwing from a mound, but he should be able to return to the Yankees for the stretch run. Castro posted a 4.00 ERA, 1.41 WHIP and 30:13 K:BB over 27 innings while collecting five wins and eight holds prior to going down with the injury.

  • Dillon Tate RP | TOR

Orioles' Dillon Tate: Working in bridge role

Tate has given up three earned runs on three hits with three strikeouts and zero walks in four innings across four appearances since the Orioles sent closer Jorge Lopez to the Twins at the trade deadline.

Tate, Felix Bautista and Cionel Perez were named as candidates to see save chances by manager Brandon Hyde following Lopez's departure, but Bautista has converted all three of the team's save opportunities since the deal. Tate has two saves and 12 holds this season, though he hasn't added to either total in over a month. Perez appears locked in as the primary setup option, but Tate should continue to see high-leverage work given his 2.56 ERA, 0.99 WHIP and 46:10 K:BB over 52.2 frames.

  • Cionel Perez RP | NYM

Orioles' Cionel Perez: Remains in setup role

Perez continues to operate as a setup man and has a win and two holds over 4.1 scoreless innings since Baltimore sent closer Jorge Lopez to Minnesota at the trade deadline.

Manager Brandon Hyde initially indicated Perez, Felix Bautista and Dillon Tate would be in the mix for save opportunities after Lopez's departure, but it's Bautista who has received and successfully converted all three of the team's save chances since the trade. Overall Perez has one save and 17 holds with a 1.12 ERA, 1.14 WHIP and 40:15 K:BB across 40.1 innings this year, and he should continue to work in a setup role while Bautista remains effective and healthy.

  • Alexis Diaz RP | TEX

Reds' Alexis Diaz: Notches five-out save

Diaz allowed one hit and struck out four batters over 1.2 innings while earning a save over the Cubs on Sunday.

Diaz took the mound with the bases jammed in the eighth inning and promptly struck out the next two batters to escape the jam. He then worked out of another one-out threat in the ninth to pick up his fifth save of the year. The right-handed rookie lowered his season ERA to 1.83 with a 60:22 K:BB through 44.1 innings. Diaz has given up just one run over his last 16 appearances.
