Nationals' Mason Thompson: Close to rehab assignment
Nationals manager Dave Martinez said Friday that Thompson (elbow) will make one more outing in the Florida Complex League before embarking on a rehab assignment, Spencer Nusbaum of The Washington Post reports.

If all goes well with his next outing in the FCL, the 27-year-old right-hander will be given the green light to start a rehab assignment and work his way back up to the majors. He appeared in 51 regular-season games out of the bullpen for the Nationals in 2023 and posted a 5.50 ERA, 1.56 WHIP, three saves, 10 holds and a 44:22 K:BB across 54 innings.

Justin Martinez RP | ARI
Diamondbacks' Justin Martinez: Out for season
Manager Torey Lovullo said Friday that Martinez (elbow) is expected to be sidelined for at least 12-to-13 months, Jack Sommers of SI.com reports.
The right-hander is still headed for a second opinion on the UCL sprain that sent him to the injured list earlier this week, but the initial diagnosis is apparently severe enough to safely rule him out for the next year. Martinez's absence could extend through the entirety of the 2026 campaign if traditional Tommy John surgery is necessary. Shelby Miller picked up his seventh save of the season Wednesday, and it appears he'll get the first crack at taking over as Arizona's closer.
