The Tigers optioned Wentz to Triple-A Toledo on Saturday.

Wentz was returned to the minors one day after he served as the 27th man for the Tigers' twin bill with the Guardians. He ended up starting the second game of the doubleheader and took a no-decision in the Tigers' 4-1 loss while striking out three and scattering four hits and two walks over five scoreless frames. Though the Tigers don't have a spot available for him in the rotation at the moment, Wentz should be first in line for a promotion if injuries test the big club's starting depth at any point over the final five and a half weeks of the season.

The Tigers activated Turnbull (neck) from the 60-day injured list Wednesday and optioned him to Triple-A Toledo, Jason Beck of MLB.com reports.

Turnbull's 30-day rehab assignment window closed on a low note Tuesday, with the right-hander striking out five but giving up three earned runs on six hits and two walks over 3.2 innings in his start with Toledo. Overall, Turnbull compiled a 6.75 ERA, 1.59 WHIP and 23:7 K:BB over 21.1 innings in his six starts between Toledo and High-A West Michigan. The Tigers already have a full rotation, so unless injuries test the big club's pitching depth, Turnbull will need to show improved performance over his next few outings at Toledo to get another look in Detroit.

Flaherty is no longer starting for the Orioles on Wednesday against the Blue Jays, Nathan Ruiz of The Baltimore Sun reports.

The Orioles haven't provided an explanation for why Flaherty was pushed off the start, but Dean Kremer will now take the ball Wednesday. The Orioles currently don't have a starter listed for Thursday versus Toronto, and it's unclear if Flaherty will be a candidate to take the hill that day. He was roughed up for seven runs over just three innings against the Padres in his last outing Aug. 15.

Kremer will start Wednesday's game against the Blue Jays, Andy Kostka of TheBaltimoreBanner.com reports.

Kremer had been lined up to start Thursday's series finale with Toronto, but he'll instead move up a day in the pitching schedule after Wednesday's projected starter, Jack Flaherty, was scratched for an unspecified reason. Because the Orioles have been running a six-man rotation of late, Kremer will still be well rested for Wednesday's outing, which comes on six days' rest.

Clevinger (5-6) took the loss Tuesday, giving up four runs on six hits and four walks over five innings as the White Sox fell 6-3 to the Mariners. He struck out four.

The veteran right-hander also plunked a batter and uncorked a wild pitch, and he managed only nine swinging strikes among his 97 pitches. Clevinger saw his brief quality start streak end at two, but his 4.5 BB/9 over his last three outings suggests his luck was due to run out. Even so, he sports a 2.57 ERA and 1.14 WHIP since coming off the injured list in late July, and he's served up just two homers in 28 innings over that stretch. He'll try to get back on track in his next start, likely to come at home this weekend against the A's.

Kikuchi did not factor into the decision Tuesday, allowing three runs on seven hits and one walk over 4.2 innings in a 6-3 victory over the Orioles. He struck out six.

After allowing a run in the opening frame, Kikuchi delivered three scoreless frames before running into trouble in the fifth, allowing two more runs before he was pulled after throwing 82 pitches. It marks the first time Kikuchi allowed more than one run in a start since July 6 -- he'd worked to a 1.29 ERA over his prior six outings (35 innings). Overall, the 32-year-old left-hander is 9-4 with a 3.52 ERA, 1.23 WHIP and 138:36 K:BB across 25 starts (133 innings) this season. Kikuchi is tentatively lined up for a home matchup with the Guardians this weekend.

Woo didn't factor into the decision during Tuesday's victory over the White Sox, allowing an earned run on three hits and a walk over four innings. He struck out three.

As expected, Woo was capped at four innings during his return from a stint on the injured list due to forearm inflammation. The rookie right-hander pounded 43 of 65 pitches in for strikes and settled in nicely after giving up an RBI single to Andrew Vaughn in the first inning. Now apparently back to full health, Woo looks like he could go long enough to qualify for a decision in his next start, which is tentatively scheduled for either Sunday against the Royals or Monday versus the Athletics.

Syndergaard came away with a no-decision Tuesday in the Guardians' win over the Dodgers, giving up three runs on four hits and a walk over six innings. He struck out four.

The veteran right-hander wasn't dominant, managing only nine swinging strikes among his 95 pitches, but Syndergaard did deliver his first quality start since April. He's alternated solid outings with poor ones since coming over to Cleveland at the trade deadline, but his overall 4.94 ERA, 1.32 WHIP and 15:7 K:BB through 27.1 innings makes him an unappealing fantasy option in most formats. He'll look to build some momentum in his next start, likely to come this weekend in Toronto.

Eovaldi (forearm) will throw a bullpen session Thursday, MLB.com reports.

This will be Eovaldi's fourth throwing session and third bullpen. The right-hander also threw live batting practice Monday. Eovaldi appears to be nearing a return with the only issue left to decide is whether he makes a rehab start before being activated.

Gray (8-7) allowed five runs (four earned) on seven hits and three walks while striking out five over four innings to take the loss Tuesday versus the Diamondbacks.

Gray needed 83 pitches (52 strikes) to get through four frames in the poor outing. He'd allowed just one run over his last two starts combined, but he'd given up 11 runs across 10.1 innings in the two outings before that. Overall, Gray has a 3.69 ERA, 1.23 WHIP and 111:44 K:BB through 131.2 innings across 23 starts this year. He's lacked consistency over the last couple of months, but he'll aim to get back on track on the road versus the Mets next week.
