Suarez (2-5) took the loss Friday, giving up three runs on seven hits and two walks over 4.2 innings while striking out three as the Angels fell 5-4 to the Astros.

The southpaw wasn't sharp and needed 92 pitches (57 strikes) to record 14 outs, although the final run on his ledger scored after he'd gotten the hook. Suarez now carries a 6.67 ERA and 56:24 K:BB through 58 innings, and with the Angels getting a couple of off days next week, it's not clear when he'll pitch again.

Cease (3-6) struck out nine and picked up the win in Friday's 8-3 victory over the Rangers, allowing three runs on four hits and a walk over six innings.

It looked like the rookie was in for another shaky performance when Willie Calhoun blasted a three-run homer in the first inning, but Cease shook it off and shut Texas down after that, eventually setting a new career high in strikeouts while delivering his second quality start in nine trips to the mound in the majors. The right-hander will carry a 5.76 ERA and 50:22 K:BB through 50 innings into his next outing Thursday, at home against the Twins.

Lynn (14-9) took the loss Friday as the Rangers were downed 8-3 by the White Sox. He struck out 10 but coughed up seven runs on 11 hits and two walks over 5.2 innings.

The right-hander generated a whopping 24 swinging strikes among his 109 pitches (75 total strikes), but when Chicago did get wood on the ball it found a hole -- the 11 hits Lynn surrendered consisted of seven singles and four doubles. He'll carry a 3.85 ERA and 197:48 K:BB through 170.2 innings into his next start Thursday, at home against the Mariners.

Paxton (10-6) earned the win Friday, allowing two runs on five hits and striking out 11 over 6.2 innings in a 10-2 win over the Dodgers.

The Yankees provided five homers in support of Paxton, who took care of suppressing the Dodgers' dangerous offense. Across 30.1 innings in August, Paxton has a 3.56 ERA and 35 strikeouts, compared to a 5.68 ERA over 25.1 innings in five July starts. For the season, Big Maple owns a 4.43 ERA and 152:44 K:BB in 120 innings. The southpaw is expected to face his former team, the Mariners, in a road start Wednesday.

Rodriguez (15-5) earned the win Friday after holding the Padres scoreless across seven innings. He gave up five hits and a walk while striking out six.

Rodriguez delivered another stellar performance, holding his opponent scoreless for the second straight start after blanking the Orioles across 7.1 innings last time out. The 26-year-old southpaw is now 7-1 in his last nine appearances as he continues to lead the Red Sox starters in both wins (15) and ERA (3.92). Rodriguez will gear up for a tough road matchup against the Rockies on Wednesday.

Kluber underwent additional tests on his strained oblique Friday, Ryan Lewis of the Akron Beacon Journal reports.

Additional testing is generally a cause for concern, but in this case, the Indians are apparently trying to see if they can move up Kluber's target return date. The right-hander's status will be updated further once the results of Friday's exam are released.

Carrasco (illness) is schedule to throw around two innings in his next rehab appearance Sunday, Zack Meisel of The Athletic reports.

Carrasco threw one inning and 1.2 innings, respectively, in his first and second rehab appearances, and it appears he will extend out even a little further his next time out. He will also see a bump in competition, as he will pitch for Triple-A Columbus on Sunday after beginning his rehab stint with Double-A Akron. It's not exactly clear how many more minor-league games Carrasco will appear in before he is deemed ready to return, but according to the report, "a couple more" are scheduled for next week. Carrasco is on track to return in a relief role, so it's possible he will be ready to resume pitching for the Indians if he makes it through the next week without issue.

Suarez was officially recalled from Triple-A Salt Lake on Friday and will start against the Astros.

As expected, the lefty was summoned to the big leagues to take the place of Griffin Canning (elbow) in the starting rotation. Suarez owns an unimpressive 6.75 ERA and 1.69 WHIP with a 53:22 K:BB over 53.1 innings this season in the majors.

Farrell (jaw) was activated off the 60-day injured list Friday.

Farrell has yet to pitch in the majors this season after suffering a broken jaw when he was hit by a line drive in spring training, but he's now primed to make his season debut. The 28-year-old had a 5.17 ERA, 1.47 WHIP and 39:16 K:BB over 31.1 innings with the Cubs in 2018.

Javier was promoted to Triple-A Round Rock on Friday.

A 22-year-old righty, Javier has really impressive minor-league numbers, but his future role is still up in the air. He has a 1.75 ERA, 0.98 WHIP and 154 strikeouts in 102.2 innings across stops at High-A and Double-A, but he also has 55 walks and has averaged less than five innings per appearance. He certainly has a future in the big leagues, but shaky command/control could force him to the bullpen.
