  • Andrew Albers SP | MIN

Twins' Andrew Albers: Clears waivers, reports to Triple-A

Albers cleared waivers and was optioned to Triple-A Rochester on Sunday, Mike Berardino of the St. Paul Pioneer Press reports.

Albers made one appearance with the Twins, giving up three runs on 11 hits and a walk over six innings in relief duty back on Aug. 11. The 30-year-old will stick with the organization as rotation depth at Triple-A.

  • Alex Meyer SP | LAA

Angels' Alex Meyer: Makes debut with Angels affiliate Friday

Meyer (shoulder) tossed a scoreless inning for the Angels' rookie-level club Friday.

It marked Meyer's debut with the Angels organization after he was acquired from the Twins on Aug. 1. The former top prospect has been sidelined for over three months with shoulder fatigue, but it looks like he's only a couple weeks away from making his debut with Triple-A Salt Lake. Once he proves himself in the minors, he could be a candidate to join the Angels as a September call-up.

  • Luis Severino SP | ATH

Yankees' Luis Severino: Optioned to Triple-A

Severino was demoted back to Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre following Sunday's game against the Rays.

The youngster was given another shot at the starting rotation Sunday, but what followed was a disastrous outing in which he coughed up seven earned runs on eight hits and a walk over just 3.2 innings, though he did add seven strikeouts. The Yankees didn't announce a corresponding move but that will likely come before Monday's series opener against Toronto.

  • Sonny Gray SP | BOS

Athletics' Sonny Gray: Uncertain to return this season

Gray (forearm) has yet to resume throwing and may not be able to return this season, Jane Lee of MLB.com reports.

The Athletics will evaluate Gray over the next few weeks before assessing his status for the rest of the season, but there's reason to believe the team might be interested in shutting him down. Since the Athletics are well removed from playoff contention and Gray has already suffered through a miserable season, posting a 5.74 ERA and 1.50 WHIP over 116 innings, it might make sense to just have him hit the reset button and turn his attention toward 2017. At this point, it might not be beneficial to hold on to Gray in any single-season league, including AL-only formats.

  • James Paxton SP | BOS

Mariners' James Paxton: On track for Tuesday start

Mariners manager Scott Servais said that Paxton (elbow) is on track to start Tuesday against the Angels, Ryan Divish of the Seattle Times reports.

Paxton's last appearance came Aug. 7 against the Angels, when he covered 8.1 innings and gave up one unearned run. However, he was unable to escape the outing unscathed, as he took a liner off his left elbow before departing. X-rays on the elbow came back negative and didn't warrant a DL stint, and after completing a bullpen session over the weekend, it looks like Paxton is good to go. Paxton should be in line for a full workload when he returns to the mound Tuesday.

  • Joe Musgrove SP | SD

Astros' Joe Musgrove: Notches first career win Friday

Musgrove (1-0) gave up two earned runs on six hits and a walk over seven innings in Friday's 5-3 victory over the Blue Jays. He struck out seven.

The 23-year-old was considerably impressive while picking up his first career victory, accomplishing the feat against a potent lineup in a dangerous hitter's park. Musgrove fired 63 of his 94 pitches for strikes in an efficient performance, notching 10 swinging strikes in the process. He avoided serious damage in the third by allowing only an RBI groundout to Josh Donaldson with the bases loaded and then was touched up by Michael Saunders for a solo homer in the fourth for his only other miscue. Musgrove will look for his second win when he takes on another dangerous team in the Orioles next Thursday.

  • Dylan Bundy SP | NYM

Orioles' Dylan Bundy: Earns third straight win versus Giants

Bundy improved to 6-3 with Friday's win over the Giants, allowing just one run with three strikeouts and two walks across 5.2 innings.

Bundy was effective in terms of limiting baserunners, as the only run against him came on a two-out double in the third inning when he was already staked to a four-run lead. Bundy has been effective of late, as he has won three consecutive starts, posting a 1.45 ERA and a strong 19:4 K:BB in the process. He will have the opportunity to keep it rolling Thursday in Houston.

  • James Paxton SP | BOS

Mariners' James Paxton: Could start Tuesday or Wednesday

Paxton (elbow) said will throw a bullpen session Saturday and could start Tuesday or Wednesday in Anaheim, the Tacoma News Tribune's Bob Dutton reports.

He felt some tightness during his throwing session Thursday, but said his throwing session Friday went well, and he is set for a bullpen session Saturday. Assuming that goes well, Paxton should rejoin the rotation either Tuesday or Wednesday.

  • Andrew Albers SP | MIN

Twins' Andrew Albers: Designated for assignment

Albers was designated for assignment on Friday, Mike Berardino of the St. Paul Pioneer Press reports.

He logged six innings out of the Twins' bullpen Thursday in his lone appearance with the big league club this season. Now the Twins need to dig into the farm system again to get a fresh arm for the bullpen, as Albers was unlikely to be available Friday or Saturday. He posted a 3.51 ERA in 19 starts at Triple-A prior to his call-up, but a 15 percent K-rate points to a likely long-term role as a reliever.

  • Tommy Milone SP | SEA

Twins' Tommy Milone: MRI confirms no structural damage

Milone's MRI on Friday revealed no structural damage, confirming that he is dealing with tendinitis in his biceps, Mike Berardino of the St. Paul Pioneer Press reports.

This is good news for Milone's long-term availability, as he should be able to avoid surgery, but he is still out indefinitely with tendinitis in his biceps. The Twins will continue to get by just fine without Milone, who had posted a 5.68 ERA and just 43 strikeouts in 65 innings prior to suffering the injury.
