Brayan Bello RP | BOS
Red Sox's Brayan Bello: Could return to rotation
Bello (3-6) earned the win Friday, throwing four scoreless innings against the Dodgers. He allowed three hits and one walk while striking out three in a 9-4 win.
Bello has been lights out since his return from the minors, although it's been as a reliever. In three relief appearances, Bello has allowed one run over 13.2 innings while throwing at least four innings in each outing. He's been so effective that the Red Sox are considering starting him again, per Doug Padilla of MLB.com. "We'll talk about that," interim manager Chad Tracy said. "You got, after the off day [Monday], the 16 games in a row. So once we get past that off day and the deadline, you start looking at where we can get creative with things." As a starter in 2026, Bello has a 10.35 ERA and 2.21 WHIP over eight starts (35.2 innings).

Brandon Young SP | BAL
Orioles' Brandon Young: Escapes with no-decision Friday
Young didn't factor into the decision in Friday's 6-4 win over the Phillies, giving up four runs on five hits and two walks over 5.2 innings. He struck out five.
A J.T. Realmuto solo shot in the sixth inning chased Young from the game and cost him his 10th quality start of the season, but the right-hander was taken off the hook for his third loss when the Orioles' offense woke up in the seventh. Young hasn't been tagged with a loss since June 16, going 3-0 over his last seven starts with a 3.51 ERA, 1.34 WHIP and 41:13 K:BB through 41 innings. He'll look to get back in the win column in his next outing, which lines up to come at home next week against the Angels.

J.T. Ginn SP | ATH
Athletics' J.T. Ginn: Slated for another bullpen Saturday
Ginn (finger) is scheduled to throw a bullpen Saturday and could rejoin the Athletics' rotation next week if all goes well, Martin Gallegos of MLB.com reports.
Ginn has been sidelined since July 22 due to a blister on his right middle finger but is trending toward a short stay on the injured list. He threw bullpens Monday and Wednesday with no issues, and if no setbacks arise during Saturday's session, the right-hander could slot back into the Athletics' rotation as soon as Tuesday against the Reds. Ginn has put together a respectable campaign, posting an 8-6 record with a 3.46 ERA, 1.22 WHIP and 100:49 K:BB across 109.1 innings (22 appearances).

Ben Lively SP | CLE
Guardians' Ben Lively: Building up on rehab
Lively (elbow) began a rehab assignment at High-A Lake County and has made two starts for the Captains, Tim Stebbins of MLB.com reports.
Lively was a rotation staple the last two seasons for Cleveland before undergoing Tommy John surgery in June of 2025. He's been knocked around in both rehab outings, but the right-hander's main focus is on building up innings and pitch counts. "I'm actually throwing my fastball a little bit harder," Lively said. "I'm just in a little tweener space with my breaking balls. But it's better and better each time. My body feels great." Lively was charged with eight runs over one inning (32 pitches) in his first rehab start and then served up two homers over 1.2 innings (36 pitches) in his next one. The Guardians signed him to a two-year minor-league contract in the offseason and can option Lively to the minors upon completion of the rehab assignment.

Ranger Suarez SP | BOS
Red Sox's Ranger Suarez: Remains limited Friday
Suarez allowed three runs on four hits and two walks while striking out two over 4.2 innings in a no-decision versus the Dodgers on Friday.
Suarez continues to operate on a limited workload -- he threw just 65 pitches (42 strikes) in his second start back from a groin strain. The left-hander wasn't as sharp in this performance as his last one, which may partially explain the early exit, though it appears he's still at least a couple of starts away from getting back to a full workload. For the season, Suarez has a 3.15 ERA, 1.16 WHIP and 105:28 K:BB over 100 innings across 19 starts. He's projected to make his next start at home versus the White Sox.

Bryce Miller SP | SEA
Mariners' Bryce Miller: Acceptable outing in no-decision
Miller allowed two runs on three hits and two walks while striking out three over 5.1 innings in a no-decision versus the Twins on Friday.
Miller limited the damage to a two-run home run by Brooks Lee in the second inning. The Mariners' bullpen couldn't hold the lead, leaving Miller to see his winless skid reach four games, a span in which he's allowed 16 runs (13 earned) over 21.1 innings. His shaky July has taken a little shine off his overall numbers, but he still has a strong 2.80 ERA, 0.92 WHIP and 74:13 K:BB through 74 innings over 13 games (12 starts) this season. Miller is projected for a home start versus the Rays next week.

Zebby Matthews SP | MIN
Twins' Zebby Matthews: Punches out 10 in no-decision
Matthews allowed three runs on four hits, two walks and a hit batsman while striking out 10 over five-plus innings in a no-decision versus the Mariners on Friday.
While Matthews went winless in July, he was able to end the month with a couple of positive outings. Across five starts in July, he allowed a total of 23 runs (21 earned) across 24.2 innings with a 23:14 K:BB. The right-hander still needs to improve on his consistency, but he has potential. He's at a 5.22 ERA, 1.31 WHIP and 69:26 K:BB across 81 innings through 14 starts this season. However, it's unclear for now if he'll maintain a rotation spot after the Twins traded for Dean Kremer on Friday.

Hunter Brown SP | HOU
Astros' Hunter Brown: Solid again in win
Brown (3-1) earned the win against the Rangers on Friday, allowing two runs on six hits and two walks with five strikeouts over 5.2 innings.
Brown opened with five scoreless innings before allowing two runs in the sixth, falling one out shy of a quality start on a season-high 104 pitches. The 27-year-old generated only nine whiffs but yielded just four hard-hit balls en route to his second straight victory. He owns a 3.42 ERA, 1.29 WHIP and 55:30 K:BB across 52.2 innings this season and lines up for a home matchup with the Blue Jays next week.
-
Nathan Eovaldi SP | TEX
Rangers' Nathan Eovaldi: Hit hard in loss
Eovaldi (10-9) took the loss against the Astros on Friday, allowing six runs on 10 hits and one walk with five strikeouts over five innings.
Eovaldi threw 60 of 94 pitches for strikes with a respectable 14 whiffs, but he allowed two homers and 12 hard-hit balls overall. It ended an underwhelming July for the veteran hurler, who posted a 5.67 ERA over five starts while yielding three earned runs or more in four of them. He'll take a 4.31 ERA, 1.21 WHIP and 135:30 K:BB across 127.1 innings this season into a home matchup with the Giants next week.

Dean Kremer SP | MIN
Twins' Dean Kremer: Traded to Minnesota
The Orioles traded Kremer to the Twins on Friday in exchange for minor-league outfielder Jhomnardo Reyes, Ken Rosenthal of The Athletic reports.
Kremer has been lit up in his last two starts, coughing up 14 earned runs in just 10 innings to raise his ERA to 6.50 through 36 frames (seven starts). Now in Minnesota, he figures to claim a spot in the Twins' rotation but could be at risk of moving to the bullpen if his performance doesn't improve.
