May will undergo Tommy John surgery May 11, Juan Toribio of MLB.com reports.

May felt something in his arm in his latest start Saturday against the Brewers and was forced to exit in the second inning. An MRI confirmed that surgery was needed Monday. The procedure typically takes over a year to recover from, so May probably won't pitch again at the big-league level until the second half of the 2022 season.

Lucchesi was recalled to start Monday against the Cardinals, Tim Britton of The Athletic reports.

Lucchesi will get the ball as the Mets seek to give their other starters an extra day to rest. Lucchesi has given up six runs in eight innings of work so far this season, but his 11:2 K:BB makes him at least somewhat interesting. Daniel Zamora was optioned in a corresponding move.

Wainwright was activated from the COVID-19 injured list Monday ahead of his scheduled start against the Mets.

Wainwright had been sidelined since Thursday following a positive test for a family member, but he's evidently cleared health and safety protocols and is ready to go. The 39-year-old has looked good through five starts this season, combining a career-high 26.4 percent strikeout rate and a 5.0 percent walk rate en route to a respectable 4.08 ERA, a number which could be significantly lower according to his 3.19 xFIP. Austin Dean was optioned in a corresponding move.

May's MRI revealed some UCL damage in his right elbow Monday, Jon Morosi of MLB Network reports.

This isn't quite confirmation that May will require Tommy John surgery, but it wouldn't be a surprise if such an announcement comes soon. The team is expected to make a decision on his future within the next 24 hours. The Dodgers will need to find a replacement for him in the rotation soon, as both David Price (hamstring) and Tony Gonsolin (shoulder) are also injured, though the team has three off days in the next two weeks, so it's not as pressing a need as it could be.

Gausman (2-0) allowed one run on six hits and a walk while striking out six over six innings to earn the win over the Padres on Sunday. He also singled and reached via a fielding error while scoring two runs.

Gausman's lone blemish on the day was allowing a first-inning solo home run to Fernando Tatis. The 30-year-old Gausman was excellent otherwise as it was his fifth start this season allowing one run or less. He lowered his ERA to a 2.04 while improving his K:BB to 40:11 over 39.2 innings. He's in line for a rematch against the Padres later in the week.

Musgrove (2-3) allowed six runs (five earned) on four hits and two walks while striking out six over five innings to take the loss to the Giants ion Sunday.

Musgrove cruised through the opening two innings but ran into trouble in the third after issuing a leadoff walk and then allowing pitcher Kevin Gausman to reach on a fielding error before Tommy La Stella singled to drive in the first run of the game. Mike Tauchman stepped in next and would take Musgrove deep to right to put the Giants up 4-1. Musgrove would later surrender two more runs in the fifth before his day was over. It was the first outing of the season in which he let in more than two runs and he's also only managed 10 strikeouts over his last two starts after punching out 13 against the Brewers on April 19. He still owns a very solid 2.38 ERA, 0.74 WHIP and 47:7 K:BB over 34 innings and is in line for a rematch against Gausman and the Giants later in the week.

Peterson allowed one earned run on four hits and two walks while striking out eight across five innings in the win over the Phillies on Sunday. He did not factor in the decision.

Peterson's only run allowed was a leadoff solo home run by Andrew McCutchen to start the game. After that, Peterson settled in to record more strikeouts (8) than hits (3) and walks (2) combined. Despite having three starts allowing two or less runs, he only has one win this season. The 25-year-old has a 4.81 ERA and has surrendered a team-high five home runs in 24.1 innings.

Eflin allowed two earned runs on 10 hits while striking out seven across six innings in the loss to the Mets on Sunday. He did not factor in the decision.

Eflin may have surrendered a season-high 10 hits, but he was successful in stranding nine runners on base resulting in only two runs allowed. This was his fourth straight start without issuing a walk. In six starts, he has only two walks compared to 34 strikeouts. The 27-year-old has an ERA of 3.49 through 38.2 innings, and he hasn't allowed any home runs.
