  • Rockies' German Marquez: Unlikely to return this season

Manager Bud Black said Marquez (arm) has an "outside chance of pitching again" this season, Patrick Saunders of The Denver Post reports.

Marquez is on the injured list with right arm inflammation, and it doesn't sound like the Rockies are expecting him to return this season, though Black didn't completely rule it out. With the team already eliminated from the playoffs, there's no reason to push the right-hander, who owns a 4.76 ERA, 1.20 WHIP and 175:35 K:BB across 28 starts (174 innings) this season.

  • Dustin May SP | MIL

Dodgers' Dustin May: Dealing with neck soreness

May is dealing with neck soreness after getting hit with a line drive Sunday, Ken Gurnick of MLB.com reports.

May thankfully avoided a concussion after the ball struck him in the head. He was previously diagnosed with a head contusion and apparently also has a neck issue as well, but the injuries don't appear to be overly serious.

  • Rich Hill SP | KC

Dodgers' Rich Hill: To face live hitters

Hill (forearm) is set to face live hitters Friday or Saturday, David Vassegh of AM 570 LA Sports reports.

Hill was able to toss another side session Monday without any issues, so the next step in his rehab will be to face live batters. He was placed on the injured list June 20 with a left forearm strain and continues to target a mid-September return. The Dodgers are expected to give Hill an opportunity to reclaim a starting role once he's activated, with the veteran lefty and Julio Urias likely vying for the final spot in Los Angeles' four-man rotation in the postseason.

  • Kenta Maeda SP | NYY

Dodgers' Kenta Maeda: Moving to bullpen

Manager Dave Roberts said Maeda will pitch out of the bullpen for the remainder of the season, Ken Gurnick of MLB.com reports.

Maeda was originally scheduled to start Tuesday against the Rockies, but Julio Urias will get the ball instead while Maeda moves to the bullpen for the stretch run. The 31-year-old owns a respectable 4.14 ERA, 1.11 WHIP and 147:47 K:BB through 26 starts (137 innings) this season but will transition to a relief role ahead of the playoffs.

  • Julio Urias SP | LAD

    Dodgers' Julio Urias: Starting Tuesday

Urias will start Tuesday's game against the Rockies, David Vassegh of AM 570 LA Sports reports.

Urias will toss around 45 pitches, so he's unlikely to work more than two or three innings. He was reinstated from the restricted list Monday and hasn't taken the mound since Aug. 16 against the Braves, when he worked three scoreless frames and struck out one.

  • Kyle Hendricks SP | LAA

Cubs' Kyle Hendricks: Strikes out seven in no-decision

Hendricks gave up one run on three hits and one walk while striking out seven through six innings in a no-decision against the Mariners on Monday.

Hendricks was incredibly efficient, throwing just 81 pitches and striking out seven through his six innings of work. Hendricks has been excellent at home, posting a 1.77 ERA. The 29-year-old has a 3.39 ERA and 132 strikeouts through 26 starts this season. Hendricks is scheduled to make his next start Sunday at Miller Park.

  • Cardinals' Michael Wacha: Starting on short rest Wednesday

Wacha will start Wednesday against the Giants, Jim Hayes of FOX Sports Midwest reports.

Wacha will be pitching on short rest -- his last start came Saturday against the Reds -- so he likely won't be asked to pitch too deep into the game. The right-hander has been solid across four starts since rejoining the rotation in mid-August, posting a 3.05 ERA, 1.16 WHIP and 22:7 K:BB in 20.2 innings.

  • Alex Wood RP | ATH

Reds' Alex Wood: Back injury returns

Wood will no longer start Tuesday against the Phillies due to a back injury, C. Trent Rosecrans of The Athletic reports.

Wood missed the first four months of the season with back issues, which have apparently returned. The southpaw has struggled to a 5.80 ERA and 1.40 WHIP across seven starts since returning from the IL in July, though he fired a quality outing (three runs across six innings) while striking out a season-high eight batters his last time out. It's unclear how long this latest back injury will keep Wood out. Lucas Sims is starting in his place Tuesday.

  • Cardinals' Carlos Martinez: Records 17th save

Martinez struck out two with no walks through 1.1 scoreless and hitless innings to record his 17th save in a 3-1 win over the Giants on Monday.

The Cardinals turned to Martinez with a runner on in the eighth inning, and he quickly delivered a strikeout to get out of the frame and shut down the Giants in the ninth inning to nail down the save. The 27-year-old has a 3.23 ERA with a 3.07 FIP in 39 innings this season.

  • Cardinals' Adam Wainwright: Goes seven innings in win

Wainwright (10-9) gave up four hits and no walks while striking out one through seven scoreless innings to earn the win over the Giants on Monday.

Wainwright breezed through seven innings on 96 pitches to earn the win. Wainwright continues to thrive at home, posting a 2.67 ERA in 70.2 innings coming into this game. The 38-year-old has a 4.30 ERA and 131 strikeouts through 26 starts overall this season. Wainwright is scheduled to make his next start Saturday at PNC Park.
