  • Josiah Gray RP | WAS

Nationals' Josiah Gray: Breezes to seventh victory

Gray (7-8) earned the win over San Francisco on Saturday, allowing one run on four hits and three walks while striking out four batters over seven innings.

Washington staked Gray to a six-run lead after two innings, and the right-hander had no problem making it hold up, allowing just a single run over seven frames. Gray finished with his first positive outing in July -- he had yielded nine runs (seven earned) on 18 hits and five walks over 10 innings across his previous two starts. The 25-year-old's quality start Saturday was just his second over his past 11 contests, a span during which he's posted a 4.07 ERA, 1.53 WHIP and 53:29 K:BB over 59.2 frames.

  • Astros' Cristian Javier: Wild in loss

Javier (7-2) allowed two runs on one hit and six walks while striking out five over 5.2 innings, taking the loss Saturday versus the Athletics.

Javier didn't give up a hit until the sixth inning. He put two on with two outs, but Phil Maton let three straight runners reach base and allowed two inherited runners to score, which was enough to leave Javier with the loss. It's been a rough stretch for Javier, who has given up 23 runs while walking 14 over his last 21.1 innings across five starts. The poor pitching has him up to a 4.32 ERA with a 1.22 WHIP and 94:33 K:BB through 102 innings overall. The right-hander is tentatively scheduled for a much tougher matchup at home versus Tampa Bay for his next start.

  • Paul Blackburn RP | NYY

Athletics' Paul Blackburn: Pitches well in no-decision

Blackburn allowed a run on five hits and three walks while striking out five over 5.1 innings in a no-decision versus the Astros on Saturday.

Blackburn gave up the opening run, an Alex Bregman solo home run, in the sixth inning, but Oakland was able to take the lead back in its half of the frame. It was a good bounce-back for Blackburn after he was tagged for six runs in his previous outing. He's still walked multiple batters in three of his last four appearances and carries a 49:18 K:BB with a 5.06 ERA and 1.58 WHIP through 48 innings this season. The right-hander is tentatively lined up for a challenging road start in Colorado next weekend.

  • Osvaldo Bido RP | CHW

Pirates' Osvaldo Bido: Picks up win as primary pitcher

Bido (2-1) allowed four hits and a walk while striking out three over three scoreless innings, earning the win Saturday over the Angels.

Bido needed 56 pitches (35 strikes) to cover three frames, but he was part of a five-pitcher shutout. The right-hander had struggled in his previous outing, surrendering three runs over 2.2 innings against the Giants last Sunday. His pitch count has been trending down in July, which suggests he could see more work behind an opener if he remains in the majors. Bido has a 4.50 ERA, 1.53 WHIP and 28:13 K:BB through 30 innings over eight appearances (six starts). He's lined up to make his next outing at home versus the Phillies if he continues to occupy a rotation spot.

  • Reid Detmers SP | LAA

Angels' Reid Detmers: Takes seventh loss

Detmers (2-7) allowed two runs on six hits and two walks while striking out nine over five innings, taking the loss Saturday versus the Pirates.

Detmers turned in a fine performance, but the Angels couldn't generate any runs. The southpaw has allowed 15 runs over 20.1 innings in July, but he's now gone two straight starts without allowing a home run. The 24-year-old has a 4.38 ERA, 1.30 WHIP and 122:37 K:BB through 96.2 innings over 18 starts. Detmers is tentatively projected for a road start in Toronto next weekend.

  • Allan Winans SP | NYY

Braves' Allan Winans: Optioned after solid debut

Winans was optioned to Triple-A Gwinnett following his start Saturday against the Brewers, Justin Toscano of The Atlanta Journal-Constitution reports.

Winans pitched quite well in his MLB debut Saturday at Milwaukee, scattering two earned runs on five hits and one walk over 4.1 innings while striking out five. Atlanta has two scheduled days off next week, though, and can roll with a smaller rotation mix until Max Fried (forearm) returns around the beginning of August. It's unclear when Winans might get another shot in the big leagues.

  • Dylan Cease SP | TOR

White Sox's Dylan Cease: Strikes out nine

Cease allowed a run on three hits and two walks while striking out nine over six innings in a no-decision versus the Twins on Saturday.

Cease pitched well enough to win, but Keynan Middleton and Gregory Santos couldn't preserve the lead in the seventh inning. This was Cease's first quality start in four July outings -- he's given up 10 runs over 22.1 innings in that span. The right-hander is now at a 4.04 ERA, 1.31 WHIP and 138:47 K:BB through 113.2 innings over 21 starts this season. He's projected for a home start versus the Guardians next week.

  • Sonny Gray SP | BOS

Twins' Sonny Gray: Gets back on track

Gray allowed two runs on seven hits and a walk while striking out four over six innings in a no-decision versus the White Sox on Saturday.

Gray had allowed a combined 11 runs over his last 11.2 innings entering this start, but he was back in solid form against a division rival. The right-hander didn't get enough run support while in the game, causing his winless streak to reach 14 starts. He's now at a 3.15 ERA, 1.29 WHIP and 110:44 K:BB through 111.1 innings this season. Gray is projected for a favorable road start in Kansas City next week.

  • Giants' Anthony DeSclafani: Set up for bulk-relief role

DeSclafani will likely operate in bulk relief Sunday versus the Nationals, Susan Slusser of the San Francisco Chronicle reports.

Scott Alexander will be the Giants' opening pitcher, and then DeSclafani should soon follow him. The 33-year-old right-hander holds a 4.72 ERA, 1.21 WHIP and 77:18 K:BB in 95.1 innings this season while exclusively working as a starter.

  • Orioles' Grayson Rodriguez: Solid in no-decision

Rodriguez did not factor into the decision Saturday, allowing two runs on three hits and two walks over 5.2 innings against Tampa Bay. He struck out six.

After giving up four runs in his first start since being recalled by the Orioles, Rodriguez shut down the Rays, allowing three hits while falling just one out short of his first quality start of 2023. Prior to being sent down to the minors, Rodriguez had surrendered 18 runs over four starts (17.2 innings). However, with Cole Irvin shifting to the bullpen, it's likely Rodriguez will stick around in Baltimore's rotation.
