Clay Holmes RP | NYM
Mets' Clay Holmes: Likely to be piggybacked Sunday
Holmes is expected to start Sunday's game against the Royals but will likely be piggybacked by Sean Manaea (elbow/oblique) in the latter's return from the 60-day injured list, Mike Puma of the New York Post reports.
Before the Mets solidify their pitching plans for Sunday, Manaea will need to make it out of his final rehab start Tuesday with Double-A Binghamton unscathed. Holmes, meanwhile, will start Tuesday's game in Baltimore, so the Mets will be able to manage the workload of both him and Manaea by having them work in tandem during the final game before the All-Star break. The piggyback arrangement is unlikely to last beyond Sunday, as both pitchers should have their own spots in the rotation to begin the second half of the season.

Luis Gil SP | NYY
Yankees' Luis Gil: Rehab start coming Sunday
Yankees manager Aaron Boone said in an appearance on Jomboy Media's "Talkin' Yanks" podcast that Gil (lat) is expected to begin a rehab assignment Sunday.
Boone didn't reveal which affiliate Gil might join for his rehab assignment, but the right-hander has been facing hitters recently and is ready to take the next step in the recovery process. Gil will be built up as a starter, and the expectation is that if all goes well during his rehab assignment, he will rejoin the Yankees rotation before the end of July. The 27-year-old has been out all season due to a right lat strain.

Shane McClanahan SP | TB
Rays' Shane McClanahan: Kicking off rehab assignment
The Rays sent McClanahan (triceps) to the rookie-level Florida Complex League on Tuesday to begin a rehab assignment.
McClanahan has been ramping up his throwing progression and is finally ready to test himself in a game setting for the first time since going down with a nerve issue in his pitching arm during spring training. The left-hander will need several rehab starts to rebuild his stamina and is likely eyeing early August for his return from the 60-day injured list.

Cam Schlittler SP | NYY
Yankees' Cam Schlittler: On track to pitch Wednesday
Schlittler will be called up from Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre to start Wednesday's game against the Mariners at Yankee Stadium, Andy Martino of SNY.tv reports.
The 24-year-old right-hander will be making his MLB debut Wednesday as a replacement in the the rotation for Clarke Schmidt (forearm), who is expected to undergo season-ending Tommy John surgery. Allan Winans was called up from Triple-A the last time the Yankees needed a fill-in starter June 23 versus the Reds, but because he hasn't spent the requisite 15 days in the minors since getting optioned, Schlittler will be summoned to fill the void in the rotation. If he's able to deliver a serviceable outing in his big-league debut, Schlittler will have a case for sticking around in the New York rotation on a more permanent basis coming out of the All-Star break. Between stops with Scranton/Wilkes-Barre and Double-A Somerset this season, Schlittler owns a 2.82 ERA, 1.21 WHIP and 99:26 K:BB over 76.2 innings.

Sean Manaea RP | NYM
Mets' Sean Manaea: Could work in bulk relief Sunday
Manaea (elbow/oblique) will likely piggyback Clay Holmes during Sunday's game against the Royals, provided that all goes well in Manaea's final rehab start Tuesday with Double-A Binghamton, Mike Puma of the New York Post reports.
Puma relays that Holmes will likely start the Mets' final game of the first half, with Manaea following him in what would be his season debut. Manaea initially went on the injured list at the beginning of the season due to an oblique strain, but more recently he's dealt with loose bodies in his pitching elbow. The southpaw went three innings and threw 60 pitches in his most recent rehab outing for Binghamton last Wednesday and should get stretched out a bit more in Tuesday's start.

Bowden Francis RP | TOR
Blue Jays' Bowden Francis: Gets back on mound
Francis (shoulder) threw a bullpen session Monday at the Blue Jays' complex in Dunedin, Fla., Shi Davidi of Sportsnet.ca reports.
Francis landed on the 15-day injured list in mid-June due to a shoulder impingement and received a cortisone shot to relieve the discomfort. He's only recently began to ramp up the intensity of his throwing program, with Monday's bullpen session marking the first time he's stepped back on a mound since suffering the injury. He could be ready to begin a rehab assignment after the All-Star break, but the Blue Jays haven't yet offered up a clear timeline for his return from the IL.

Kodai Senga SP | NYM
Mets' Kodai Senga: Tracking toward Friday's start
Senga (hamstring) is scheduled to throw a bullpen session Wednesday and tentatively lines up to return from the 15-day injured list to start Friday's series opener in Kansas City, Mike Puma of the New York Post reports.
The right-hander is one of two starters the Mets anticipate returning from the IL this weekend, as Sean Manaea (elbow/oblique) is on track to be activated from the 60-day IL to pitch in Sunday's series finale if he makes it out of a rehab start Tuesday without issue. Senga made a lone rehab start this past Saturday with Double-A Binghamton, covering 3.2 innings while striking out four and allowing four runs (three earned) on six hits and two walks. Despite the mediocre results, the Mets were more encouraged by the fact that Senga seemingly came out of the rehab start healthy while also tossing 68 pitches. Assuming he's ready to rejoin the rotation Friday, Senga would likely be operating with a light workload restriction in what would be his first start with the big club since June 12.

Tanner Bibee SP | CLE
Guardians' Tanner Bibee: Loses steam in no-decision
Bibee did not factor into the decision Monday, allowing four runs on four hits and one walk over 4.2 innings against the Astros. He struck out three.
The right-hander cruised through four innings Monday before a three-run homer by Taylor Trammell and a solo shot from Isaac Paredes tied the game and chased him with two outs in the fifth. Bibee has hit a rough patch over his last eight starts dating back to May 27, recording a 5.36 ERA and 1.26 WHIP over 45.1 innings during that span. While still serviceable, his overall season numbers -- a 4.35 ERA and 1.23 WHIP in 103.1 innings across 18 starts -- mark a step back from his 2024 campaign, when he posted a 3.47 ERA and 1.12 WHIP over 173.2 innings in 31 outings.

Cristopher Sanchez SP | PHI
Phillies' Cristopher Sanchez: Shines again in no-decision
Sanchez allowed one run on seven hits and one walk while striking out eight batters over seven innings in a no-decision against San Francisco on Monday.
Sanchez gave up a second-inning run but otherwise kept the Giants off the scoreboard. The left-hander racked up an impressive 17 whiffs and eight punchouts but got just one one run of support from the Phillies' offense. Sanchez had to settle for a no-decision, but he recorded his seventh straight quality start. During that stretch, the 28-year-old has posted a 1.69 ERA, 0.92 WHIP and 46:7 K:BB over 48 innings.

Sean Burke P | CHW
White Sox's Sean Burke: Fades late in eighth loss
Burke (4-8) took the loss Monday, allowing six runs on six hits and three walks over five-plus innings against the Blue Jays. He struck out two.
The right-hander allowed three runs over the first five innings before running into major trouble in the sixth inning, when Bo Bichette, Addison Barger and Alejandro Kirk helped break the game open and derail his final line. Burke has been used as a starter, swingman and bulk reliever this season, showing flashes in each role but struggling to find consistency. Through 18 appearances, he owns a 4.40 ERA and 1.42 WHIP across 92 innings.
