  • Trevor Story SS | BOS

Red Sox's Trevor Story: Sitting for nightcap

Story is not in the lineup for the second game of Sunday's doubleheader against the Twins, Mac Cerullo of the Boston Herald reports.

The Red Sox are starting a rather surprising number of regulars in both ends of the twin bill, but Story is not among those starting in Game 2, which makes sense given he just returned earlier in September after missing five months with a dislocated left shoulder. Story went 1-for-4 with a run scored and three strikeouts in the Red Sox's 8-1 win in the early game. Nick Sogard with take over at shortstop and bat sixth against right-hander Zebby Matthews.

  • Anthony Volpe SS | NYY

Yankees' Anthony Volpe: Homers, steals base in win

Volpe went 1-for-4 with a two-run homer, a walk and a stolen base in Saturday's win over the Athletics.

Volpe slugged a leadoff homer in his first at-bat to increase New York's lead to three runs and drew a free pass his second time around before swiping his 27th bag of the campaign. The shortstop has now tallied two RBI in back-to-back contests while also hitting safely in three straight. The long ball was his 12th of the campaign and his first since Aug. 3 against the Blue Jays.

  • Dylan Moore LF | SEA

Mariners' Dylan Moore: Productive on bases Saturday

Moore went 0-for-3 with a walk, a hit-by-pitch, a stolen base and two runs in a win over the Rangers on Saturday.

Moore managed to still make an impact during a hitless effort, ringing up his 31st steal of the campaign and scoring on both occasions during which he reached safely. The 32-year-old has hit just .214 over 35 plate appearances in September, but he boasts a .343 on-base percentage in that same span thanks largely to a 14.3 percent walk rate.

  • J.P. Crawford SS | SEA

Mariners' J.P. Crawford: Laces triple in big win

Crawford went 2-for-4 with a triple and a run in a win over the Rangers on Saturday.

Crawford laced only his second three-bagger since the 2022 season as part of his third multi-hit effort during what is turning into a serviceable September. The veteran is hitting a modest .238 across 74 plate appearances this month, yet he boasts an impressive .351 on-base percentage thanks in part to his 12.2 percent walk rate in that same span. Crawford still has just a .205 batting average on the season, but that is an improved figure after his recent stretch of solid production.

  • Max Schuemann 2B | OAK

Athletics' Max Schuemann: Day off versus lefty

Schuemann isn't in Oakland's lineup for Saturday's game against the Yankees.

Southpaw Carlos Rodon will toe the slab for New York on Saturday, meaning the left-handed bat of Schuemann won't be part of Oakland's starting nine. Nick Allen will replace him at the hot corner while batting ninth.

  • Orioles' Gunnar Henderson: Notches 21st steal

Henderson went 2-for-4 with a stolen base and a run scored in Friday's 7-1 win over the Tigers.

Over his last 11 games, Henderson has five multi-hit efforts and four steals. The shortstop is batting .333 (15-for-45) in that span, though his move back to leadoff at the start of the month has diminished his opportunities to generate RBI. For the year, he has a .283/.366/.538 slash line with 37 home runs, 21 steals, 87 RBI and 115 runs scored, with all of those numbers being significant improvements on his rookie-year stats from 2023.

  • Rays' Jose Caballero: On bench Saturday

Caballero is out of the lineup for Saturday's game against the Blue Jays.

Caballero will yield to Taylor Walls at shortstop Saturday, marking Caballero's second absence in the last four games. In September, Caballero is 11-for-49 (.224) with a 32.1 percent strikeout rate.

  • Bobby Witt SS | KC

Royals' Bobby Witt: Tallies three more hits

Witt went 3-for-4 in Friday's 2-1 loss to the Giants.

Witt's bat has slowed down a bit in September -- he's gone 18-for-65 (.277) over 17 contests. This was just his fourth multi-hit effort of the month, though he was the only one who get much going versus the Giants' pitching staff. Despite the slowdown at the plate, Witt is still slashing a fantastic .334/.389/.599 with 32 home runs, 30 stolen bases, 108 RBI, 124 runs scored, 44 doubles and 11 triples across 154 contests.

  • Anthony Volpe SS | NYY

Yankees' Anthony Volpe: Three hits, two RBI in win

Volpe went 3-for-4 with two RBI in Friday's 4-2 extra-inning win over the Athletics.

Volpe had gone just 5-for-44 (.114) while striking out 15 times over a 13-game span between multi-hit efforts. Two of his singles Friday plated a run, including an insurance run in the 10th inning. His September slump has taken a toll on his overall numbers, which are now at a .248/.295/.369 slash line with 11 home runs, 57 RBI, 88 runs scored and 26 stolen bases through 152 contests. Still, he's not at risk of losing his near-everyday role at shortstop.

  • Brayan Rocchio SS | CLE

Guardians' Brayan Rocchio: Taking seat Friday

Rocchio is not in the lineup for Friday's game in St. Louis.

Rocchio had started each of the last eight contests, but he'll get a day off for the series opener. Daniel Schneemann will hold down shortstop for the Guardians.
