  • Brett Wisely 2B | SF

Giants' Brett Wisely: Sitting against southpaw

Wisely is out of the lineup for Wednesday's game against Atlanta.

The lefty-hitting Wisely will dodge a matchup with Chris Sale on Wednesday. Nick Ahmed will play shortstop while Tyler Fitzgerald fills the keystone.

  • Ezequiel Tovar SS | COL

Rockies' Ezequiel Tovar: Getting rare day off

Tovar is out of the lineup for Wednesday's game against the Brewers.

Wednesday marks Tovar's third day off this season, as the 22-year-old yields to Aaron Schunk at shortstop. Tovar is slashing .276/.304/.459 with 12 home runs across 371 plate appearances.

  • Mookie Betts SS | LAD

Dodgers' Mookie Betts: Could return as second baseman

Dodgers manager Dave Roberts stated over the weekend that he may consider having Betts (wrist) play primarily at second base upon his return, Mike DiGiovanna of the Los Angeles Times reports.

The consideration to shift Betts back to second base from shortstop is primarily due to the impressive performance of Miguel Rojas, who has played excellent defense, as usual, while adding a surprisingly potent bat (he's slashing .291/.337/.437 over 164 plate appearances). The versatile Betts is no stranger to second base; he played a career-high 70 games at the position last year after beginning the campaign in the outfield. Betts was then asked to move to shortstop ahead of 2024 despite never having logged time there in the majors prior to 2023, and he's performed adequately defensively despite a few hiccups. It remains to be seen if the Dodgers will ultimately pursue having Betts and Rojas form their middle infield for most games, and Roberts has time to think through that scenario since Betts remains several weeks away from returning. He threw and ran Tuesday, per the Associated Press, but hasn't yet swung a bat.

  • Orlando Arcia SS | ATL

Braves' Orlando Arcia: Not in starting nine

Arcia (tooth) is out of the lineup for Wednesday's game against the Giants.

Arcia is dealing with an abscessed tooth and will be held out of the starting lineup for a second straight game. Though it's unclear exactly when he'll be available to start, Arcia had the issue addressed Tuesday, so it's likely he'll be cleared in the coming days. Zack Short will bat ninth and play shortstop.

  • Otto Lopez 2B | MIA

Marlins' Otto Lopez: Out of lineup Wednesday

Lopez (undisclosed) is out of the starting nine for Wednesday's game against Boston.

Lopez was scratched from Tuesday's contest for unspecified reasons and will remain on the bench for Wednesday's contest. Instead, Vidal Brujan will bat seventh and fill the keystone.

  • Trea Turner SS | PHI

Phillies' Trea Turner: Homers twice during win

Turner went 3-for-5 with two home runs and four RBI during Tuesday's 6-4 win over the Cubs.

Turner homered off Hayden Wesneski in the third inning to give Philadelphia a 3-0 lead, and then again in the fifth to put the team in front, 5-1. An RBI single in the seventh frame capped off the Phillies' scoring and gave Turner his sixth hit in the past two games. The 31-year-old shortstop is now slashing .367/.406/.667 with two homers and six RBI over his last seven games and has recorded four multi-hit performances in that span.

  • Reds' Elly De La Cruz: Swats 15th home run

De La Cruz went 2-for-5 with a two-run home run, a triple and an additional run scored during Tuesday's 5-4 win over the Yankees.

De La Cruz took Caleb Ferguson yard in the fifth inning, extending the Reds' advantage to 5-0. The speedster also legged out his sixth triple of the season and third in the last five games. De La Cruz has generated multiple hits in seven of his last 10 games, batting .349 with a pair of homers, eight runs and three steals over that span.

  • Mets' Francisco Lindor: Clubs homer

Lindor went 2-for-5 with a solo home run, a double and an additional run scored during Tuesday's 7-2 extra-inning win over the Nationals.

Lindor got the Mets on the board with a sixth-inning solo home run off DJ Herz and came around to score the game-tying run in the eighth on a Brandon Nimmo single. The long ball was Lindor's 14th of the year, placing him in the top five among shortstops. He's slashing .249/.313/.446 with 56 runs and 15 stolen bases across 377 plate appearances.

  • Diamondbacks' Blaze Alexander: Optioned to Triple-A

The Diamondbacks optioned Alexander to Triple-A Reno on Tuesday.

With Gabriel Moreno (thumb) and Alek Thomas (hamstring) returning from the injured list Tuesday, Alexander and Tucker Barnhart will both be pushed back to the minors. In his first season in the big leagues, Alexander has slashed .259/.328/.361 with three homers and 21 RBI across 175 plate appearances. Should the Diamondbacks run into any problems with their infield depth, it's likely the 25-year-old would be one of the first choices for a return to Arizona.

  • Orlando Arcia SS | ATL

Braves' Orlando Arcia: Dealing with abscessed tooth

Arcia is out of the lineup for Tuesday's game against the Giants due to an abscessed tooth, Justin Toscano of The Atlanta Journal-Constitution reports.

Arcia dealt with a bout a dizziness last week and is now managing a tooth issue. The abscess is being addressed Tuesday, so the 29-year-old could rejoin the lineup within the next couple days.
