  • Corey Seager SS | TEX

Dodgers' Corey Seager: Nearing rehab assignment

Seager (hand) is expected to hit in Arizona this weekend and begin his rehab assignment late next week, Fabian Ardaya of The Athletic reports.

This will mark a notable step in Seager's quicker-than-expected recovery from a fractured right hand, which he suffered when getting hit by a pitch May 15. Considering the length of his absence, the shortstop figures to require multiple rehab games before being activated, so a late-June return remains realistic.

  • Willy Adames SS | SF

Brewers' Willy Adames: On bench Wednesday

Adames isn't starting Wednesday's game against Cincinnati.

Adames will get a breather after he went 0-for-10 with a run, a stolen base and four strikeouts across the last three games. Daniel Robertson will start at shortstop and bat eighth.

  • Tommy Edman 2B | LAD

Cardinals' Tommy Edman: Won't start Wednesday

Cardinals manager Mike Shildt said Edman (torso) won't be included in the lineup for Wednesday's series finale with the Marlins, Jeff Jones of the Belleville News-Democrat reports.

St. Louis will withhold Edman from the starting nine for the second day in a row after he was previously scratched ahead of Tuesday's 2-1 win when he experienced torso tightness. Shildt didn't indicate whether Edman would be available off the bench, so the 26-year-old's status is somewhat hazy heading into the Cardinals' four-game series in Atlanta that begins Thursday.

  • Trea Turner SS | PHI

Nationals' Trea Turner: Collects four hits

Turner went 4-for-5 with a triple, an RBI and a run scored during Tuesday's 8-1 win over Pittsburgh.

Turner delivered his second four-hit performance of the season and had his first extra-base knock since June 5. The 27-year-old has a .308/.352/.473 slash line with 10 homers, 31 RBI, 34 runs and 13 stolen bases through 64 games in 2021.

  • Javier Baez SS | DET

Cubs' Javier Baez: Cranks 15th homer

Baez went 1-for-4 with a two-run home run during Tuesday's loss to the Mets.

Baez got the scoring starting by taking Taijuan Walker deep in the third inning. However, he went down on strikes in his other three chances at the plate. The 28-year-old returned to the starting lineup Tuesday after sitting Sunday and Monday with thumb soreness. Although he has tallied 15 long balls on the season, Baez has had a tough June so far, going 4-for-36 with 18 strikeouts.

  • Tommy Edman 2B | LAD

Cardinals' Tommy Edman: Late scratch Tuesday

Edman was scratched from Tuesday's lineup versus the Marlins due to tightness in his torso, Derrick Goold of the St. Louis Post-Dispatch reports.

Edman was penciled in at the leadoff spot, per usual, but he was scratched from the lineup shortly before the start of Tuesday's contest. The 26-year-old should be considered day-to-day until the team updates his status. Lane Thomas will work in right field while Edmundo Sosa handles the keystone.

  • Javier Baez SS | DET

Cubs' Javier Baez: Back in lineup Tuesday

Baez (thumb) is batting third and playing shortstop Tuesday against the Mets.

As anticipated, Baez returns to the starting lineup after sitting Sunday and Monday with thumb soreness. He did have one at-bat as a pinch hitter Monday, a sign that he was ready to rejoin the lineup. June has been rough so far for Baez, who's gone 3-for-32 with 15 strikeouts this month.

  • Jose Barrero SS | BAL

Reds' Jose Barrero: Excelling since return

Barrero (personal), who left Double-A Chattanooga for just over a week in late May, is hitting .333/.385/.417 with a home run, a stolen base, nine RBI and 10 runs in his 12 games since rejoining the affiliate.

Barrero took some time away from baseball to mourn the passing of his mother, who died due to complications related to COVID-19. Upon returning to action, the 23-year-old shortstop was quickly able to pick up where he left off, and he could soon be in store for a promotion to Triple-A Louisville.

  • Giants' Brandon Crawford: Crushes 15th home run

Crawford went 2-for-4 with a homer and three RBI in Monday's 5-2 win over Arizona.

Crawford broke a 1-1 tie with his two-run shot in the fifth inning and later brought in an insurance run with an eighth-inning sacrifice fly. The veteran shortstop entered Monday's game in a 1-for-16 but broke out of it with his fourth multi-hit game of the month. He's slashing .257/.341/.545 with 24 extra-base hits and 44 RBI this season.

  • Javier Baez SS | DET

Cubs' Javier Baez: Expects to return Tuesday

Baez (thumb) expects to be available off the bench Monday against the Mets and hopes to return to the lineup Tuesday, Russell Dorsey of the Chicago Sun-Times reports.

Baez battled thumb soreness throughout last week, missing a total of four games. He'll miss another one to start this week, but the issue doesn't appear to be particularly serious and a trip to the injured list doesn't seem to be on the cards.
