  • Jorge Mateo SS | ATL

Orioles' Jorge Mateo: Logs another steal

Mateo went 0-for-3 with a walk, a stolen base and a run scored in Wednesday's 6-3 win over the Rangers.

Two of the top three base-stealers play for Baltimore, with Mateo (26) and Cedric Mullins (23) trailing only Miami's Jon Berti's (groin) major-league-leading 28. In his last 11 games, Mateo's provided a more well-rounded line with three home runs, four steals, eight RBI and eight runs scored. He's batted .297 in that span to lift his season average to .216 through 97 contests overall.

  • Tommy Edman LF | LAD

Cardinals' Tommy Edman: On bench for matinee

Edman isn't starting the first game of Thursday's doubleheader against the Cubs, Jeff Jones of the Belleville News-Democrat reports.

Edman started Tuesday's series opener against the Cubs and went 1-for-2 with two runs and a walk. Nolan Gorman will take over at the keystone while Brendan Donovan enters the lineup at third base during Thursday's matinee.

  • Willy Adames SS | SF

Brewers' Willy Adames: Cashes in four

Adames went 2-for-4 with a double, four RBI and a run scored in an 8-7 loss to the Pirates on Wednesday.

Adames came up with two timely two-RBI hits to keep the Brewers in the back-and-forth contest. Adames now has 61 RBI on the season. The total marks a new career high despite him hitting only .225 and reaching base at a poor .292 clip.

  • Orlando Arcia SS | MIN

Braves' Orlando Arcia: Pops seventh homer

Arcia went 2-for-3 with a solo home run in Wednesday's 3-1 loss to the Phillies.

The 28-year-old utility player gave Atlanta a 1-0 lead by taking Zack Wheeler deep in the fifth inning, but it was all the offense the home team could muster on the afternoon. Arcia has started five straight games at second base and homered in the last two, giving him seven long balls on the year in 178 plate appearances to go with a .247/.320/.411 slash line, and he'll continue to hold down the fort at the keystone until Ozzie Albies (foot) makes his return.

  • Pirates' Tucupita Marcano: Big night in return

Marcano went 3-for-4 with a triple, an RBI and a run scored Wednesday against the Brewers.

Marcano was recalled from Triple-A Indianapolis on Wednesday after Yoshi Tsutsugo was designated for assignment. Marcano got the start in left field while hitting eighth, though it's unclear how he'll get regular at-bats with Ben Gamel, Bryan Reynolds and Cal Mitchell currently the starting outfield and Kevin Newman locked in at second base. Marcano has been extremely productive in the minors this season, and he has also shown glimpses of promise in the majors by maintaining a .257/.304/.405 line across 82 plate appearances in Pittsburgh.

  • Diamondbacks' Geraldo Perdomo: Homers in loss

Perdomo went 1-for-4 with a two-run home run in Wednesday's 7-4 loss to Cleveland.

Perdomo's ninth-inning blast was too little too late but made the final score more respectable. It was his fourth homer of the season and second in the last six games. All in all, it was a good day for the organization's youth movement: in addition to Perdomo's long ball, Alek Thomas homered and Daulton Varsho collected a pair of hits and stole a base. Those three will be center pieces of next year's roster and could be joined by Corbin Carroll at some point in 2023.

  • Red Sox's Xander Bogaerts: Hits solo homer

Bogaerts went 1-for-4 with a solo home run in Wednesday's 6-1 loss to the Astros.

Bogaerts' ninth-inning solo shot would turn out to be the only offense for Boston on Wednesday. It was his ninth home run of the year. The shortstop is already halfway to his home run total for July. Bogaerts is slashing an impressive .312/.387/.460 after Wednesday's performance, although he is trending toward his lowest home run total in a full season since he hit 10 in 2017.

  • Bobby Witt SS | KC

Royals' Bobby Witt: Solo homer in loss

Witt went 2-for-4 with a solo home run in Wednesday's loss against the White Sox.

Witt launched a solo shot in the sixth inning, the only run scored for the Royals. It was Witt's 15th home run of the year. The rookie's batting average has been getting better each month. He hit .216 in April, .243 in May, .263 in June, and .294 in July. The result is a .255 batting average for the season. One problem Witt has yet to solve is how to cut down on strikeouts. He had more strikeouts than hits in each month except July and already has three strikeouts this month.

  • Oneil Cruz CF | PIT

Pirates' Oneil Cruz: Launches eighth home run

Cruz went 2-for-4 with a two-run home run and an additional run scored in an 8-7 victory over the Brewers on Wednesday.

Cruz blasted a line-drive home run 434 feet over the right field wall in the bottom of the seventh to help power the Pirates to a come-from-behind victory. There have been some growing pains as the electrifying rookie shortstop adjusts to big-league pitching, as Cruz came into the game hitting only .209. However, Cruz's two-hit game lifted his average to .216 and he now has an impressive eight home runs in just 36 games played.

  • Luke Williams 2B | ATL

Marlins' Luke Williams: Steals three bases

Williams went 3-for-3 with a double, a run scored and three stolen bases in a 3-0 win over the Reds on Wednesday.

Williams had a perfect night at the plate and on the basepaths, rapping out three hits and making three successful steal attempts. He took advantage of Mike Minor's low velocity, and none of the throws from Reds catcher Michael Papierski were even close to getting him out. The performance gives Williams nine steals on the season to go along with a slash line of .269/.347/.358 in 49 games played. The speedy backup infielder has shown he has the potential to steal bases in bunches, but he remains behind call-up Charles Leblanc on the depth chart.
