Ahmed went 2-for-3 with a double and a walk Sunday in the Diamondbacks' 4-3 loss to the Dodgers.

Though Ahmed hasn't homered since Aug. 20, he's still been hitting the ball with authority lately, notching a double in each of his past four starts. The shortstop will carry a career-best .777 OPS into Monday's series opener versus the Padres.

Gordon went 2-for-5 with a two-run single in a win over the Rangers on Sunday.

Gordon now has back-to-back multi-hit efforts for the first time since late June, while April 25 marked the last time he'd driven in multiple runs prior to Sunday. Gordon is only five RBI short of the second-best total of his career (36), a figure he generated just last season during his first Mariners campaign.

Manager Joe Maddon said that Baez (thumb/neck), who is out of lineup for Monday's game against the Mariners, could also be on the bench for Tuesday's series finale, Bruce Miles of the Chicago Daily Herald reports.

Baez's jammed left thumb appears to be the greater concern than the neck discomfort he also experienced upon departing from Sunday's loss to the Brewers, but Maddon relayed the star infielder is merely "sore" and not dealing with anything significant. Even so, Maddon acknowledged that Baez could benefit from three straight days off -- the Cubs don't play Wednesday -- in what would amount to a de facto "All-Star break." If Baez is indeed withheld from the lineup Tuesday, he would only make four starts this week at a maximum, which might be enough to dissuade his fantasy managers from keeping him active.

Baez (thumb/neck) isn't in the lineup for Monday's game against the Mariners.

The Cubs haven't provided a formal update on Baez's condition after he exited Sunday's loss to the Brewers with a jammed left thumb and neck discomfort, but he'll apparently need at least one day to move past the two injuries. The expanded September roster means the Cubs won't have to put Baez on the injured list if either issue proves to be more than a day-to-day concern, so the team can afford to proceed cautiously with the star shortstop if desired. Addison Russell will fill in for Baez in Monday's series opener.

Baez was removed from Sunday's 4-0 loss to the Brewers after jamming his left thumb and experiencing neck discomfort after sliding into second base in the third inning of the contest, Russell Dorsey of MLB.com reports.

Baez was able to secure his 11th stolen base of the season on the play but came away banged up when he collided with shortstop Orlando Arcia's knee. Though he initially stayed in the game, Baez was later replaced by Tony Kemp. Fortunately for Baez, X-rays on his thumb conducted after the game returned negative, leaving him day-to-day heading into Monday's series opener against the Mariners.

Turner went 1-for-5 with a run scored Sunday in the Nationals' 9-3 win over the Marlins.

Turner didn't exactly capitalize on back-to-back series against two of baseball's weaker teams in the Orioles and Marlins, going a combined 4-for-22 with three runs, an RBI and a stolen base during the five-game slate. Despite the minor slide, Turner's production has generally been on the upswing since the beginning of August, with the shortstop slashing .319/.386/.474 with eight steals over that stretch. He'll remain in the lineup for Monday's series opener versus the Mets, occupying his usual spot atop the order.

Wendle went 1-for-4 with an RBI and a stolen base in the Rays' 8-2 win over the Indians on Sunday.

Wendle has hit safely in eight of his last 10 games yet has only mustered up a slash line of .250/.263/.472 over that span due in part to the fact that he's only had one multi-hit game in that same stretch of games. He continues to be rotated in and out of the lineup with fellow third baseman Matt Duffy as they continue to split time at the hot corner.

Diaz started at first base in place of the injured Yuli Gurriel (elbow) and went 1-for-3 with a double in Sunday's 2-0 win over the Blue Jays.

Diaz was slated to start at third base but shifted across the diamond when Gurriel became a late scratch. This was his third start in the six games since Diaz was activated off the injured list last week.

Anderson went 2-for-3 with a double and a walk in Sunday's 5-3 loss to the Braves.

Anderson, who led MLB with 44 hits during the month of August, continued to hit with the calendar flipping to September. This was the 10th time in the last 11 games that he's batted second. "I like it," Anderson told Daryl Van Schouwen of the Chicago Sun-Times. "I'm getting more at-bats, and I get a chance to start something off early, get the game going." Anderson is looking to finish out what has been his best season. Had he enough at-bats to qualify, Anderson's .328 average would rank sixth in MLB.

Mondesi went 4-for-5 with two runs scored and three stolen bases in the Royals' 6-4 comeback win against the Orioles on Sunday.

Mondesi had quite the "welcome back" game with his first four-hit game of the 2019 season and the third overall of his young, promising major-league career. To top that off, the 24-year-old stole three bases for just the second time in his career. It was originally reported that the Royals did not want him diving or sliding in order to avoid any risk of re-injuring his shoulder, but that was definitely not the case Sunday. Mondesi has now upped his batting average to .274 on the season and has regained his spot as No. 2 in the majors in steals with 34.
