  • Orlando Arcia SS | MIN

Braves' Orlando Arcia: Pops homer Wednesday

Arcia went 1-for-3 with a solo home run and a walk in Wednesday's 6-5 win over the Rangers.

The homer was Arcia's second in the last three games, and he's hit safely in five straight contests, going 7-for-17 (.412) with five extra-base hits in that span. The infielder is up to a .342/.405/.592 slash line with four homers, 12 RBI, 15 runs scored and no stolen bases through 84 plate appearances. He's enjoyed steady playing time as the starting shortstop since returning from a wrist injury earlier in the month.

  • Bobby Witt SS | KC

Royals' Bobby Witt: Racking up steals

Witt went 1-for-4 with two runs scored and a steal in Wednesday's 4-3 win over the Padres.

Witt walked and stole second in the Royals' three-run sixth inning. He is up to 13 steals in 15 attempts this season as he is delivering on the basepaths. Witt has not taken a step forward at the plate, as he has .706 OPS in 2023. He has been better in May, however, posting a .788 OPS in 15 games this month.

  • Brayan Rocchio SS | CLE

Guardians' Brayan Rocchio: Gets first MLB start

Rocchio will start at shortstop and bat seventh in Wednesday's game against the White Sox.

With Amed Rosario serving as the Guardians' designated hitter Wednesday, Rocchio will get the chance to pick up his first big-league start. After being called up from Triple-A Columbus when Jose Ramirez (personal) was placed on the bereavement list in a corresponding move, Rocchio came off the bench to make his MLB debut in Tuesday's 8-3 loss, going 1-for-2 with a base hit. Rocchio will likely return to Columbus when Ramirez rejoins the Guardians in the next 2-to-6 days.

  • Corey Seager SS | TEX

Rangers' Corey Seager: Batting second in return to lineup

The Rangers reinstated Seager (hamstring/illness) from the 10-day injured list Wednesday. He'll serve as the designated hitter and No. 2 batter in the series finale with Atlanta.

After missing just over a month with the strained left hamstring, Seager appeared to be ready to be activated for the start of the series Monday, but his reinstatement was delayed two days while he battled a stomach bug. Now presumably feeling healthy again, Seager will make his return to the lineup in a non-defensive role, but he should settle back in as the Rangers' everyday shortstop in the coming days. Seager was hitting .359/.469/.538 with one home run in 49 plate appearances before landing on the injured list on April 12.

  • Anthony Volpe SS | NYY

Yankees' Anthony Volpe: Sitting out Wednesday

Volpe is absent from the lineup for Wednesday's game in Toronto, Erik Boland of Newsday reports.

The talented rookie will get a day off for just the third time all season. Oswaldo Cabrera will step in for Volpe at shortstop.

  • Jorge Mateo SS | ATL

Orioles' Jorge Mateo: Tending to leg soreness

Orioles manager Brandon Hyde said Mateo is out of the lineup Wednesday against the Angels due to leg soreness but is expected back for Thursday's series finale, Nathan Ruiz of The Baltimore Sun reports.

The leg soreness is apparently something that's been nagging Mateo for a couple weeks, and it would stand to reason that the issue has been a factor in him posting a .292 OPS so far this month. With a day game on tap Thursday, it makes sense for the Orioles to rest him Wednesday rather than having him play two games in quick succession. Joey Ortiz will fill in at shortstop Wednesday.

  • Joey Wendle 2B | ATL

Marlins' Joey Wendle: Heads to bench Wednesday

Wendle is out of the lineup for Wednesday's game against the Nationals, Jordan McPherson of the Miami Herald reports.

With lefty MacKenzie Gore twirling for the Nationals, the lefty-hitting Wendle will hit the bench Wednesday. The righty-hitting Jon Berti will step in for Wendle at shortstop.

  • Jorge Mateo SS | ATL

Orioles' Jorge Mateo: Takes seat Wednesday

Mateo is out of the lineup for Wednesday's game against the Angels.

Mateo will head to the bench Wednesday after driving in a pair of runs in Baltimore's win Tuesday. Joey Ortiz will get the start at shortstop in Mateo's stead.

  • Nick Allen SS | HOU

Athletics' Nick Allen: Hot hitting continues Tuesday

Allen went 3-for-5 with a solo home run and a walk in an extra-innings win over the Diamondbacks on Tuesday.

Allen's third multi-hit effort in the last five games -- including his second three-hit tally in that span -- was highlighted by his first home run of the season, a 381-foot shot to left in the third inning that knotted the game at 2-2. The young shortstop is hitting a blistering .474 over that five-game sample, raising his average a whopping 119 points to .217 in the process.

  • Padres' Xander Bogaerts: Batting leadoff

Bogaerts will start at shortstop and bat leadoff Wednesday versus the Royals, Dennis Lin of The Athletic reports.

Manny Machado (hand) is on the bench again and the San Diego lineup had another rough showing Tuesday, so manager Bob Melvin is shaking things up. Fernando Tatis will drop down in the third spot with Bogaerts elevated to leadoff.
