Smith was scratched from the lineup ahead of Tuesday's game versus the Twins due to an elbow infection, Kennedi Landry of MLB.com reports.

Smith had originally been slated to start at shortstop and bat third Tuesday, but his elbow will instead cause him to miss the series opener. Ezequiel Duran will fill in as Texas' shortstop and bat ninth.

Moncada isn't in the lineup for Tuesday's game against the Royals, Rhett Bollinger of MLB.com reports.

Moncada will sit down for a second consecutive game Tuesday, though he recorded a hit off the bench Sunday to end what had been an 0-for-13 stretch at the plate. Oswald Peraza will pick up another start at the hot corner as a result and bat sixth.

Interim manager Tony Mansolino said Tuesday that Sanchez (knee) will not return this season, Cordell Woodland of 105.7 The Fan Baltimore reports.

Sanchez hasn't played since July 5 but did begin a rehab assignment earlier this month. However, with Adley Rutschman and Samuel Basallo healthy, it doesn't make much sense to rush Sanchez back in a lost season. Sanchez will wrap up the 2025 campaign with a .231/.297/.418 slash line, five home runs, 24 RBI, 13 runs scored and a 4:27 BB:K across 101 plate appearances. Sanchez turns 33 years old in December and will be a free agent this winter.

The Orioles activated McDermott from the bereavement list and placed him on the 15-day injured list Tuesday due to back discomfort.

McDermott's season is over after the 27-year-old right-hander posted an ugly 15.58 ERA, 2.77 WHIP and 9:12 K:BB across 8.2 innings for Baltimore this season. He served up three home runs and 15 earned runs in his limited work.

Clarke (hip) will begin a rehab assignment with Triple-A Las Vegas on Tuesday, Martin Gallegos of MLB.com reports.

Clarke hasn't played with the Athletics since July 20 due to a right adductor strain. It's unclear if he'll be able to make it back to the MLB lineup before Sunday's regular-season finale against the Royals. Las Vegas faces Tacoma in Game 1 of the PCL Championship on Tuesday, so Clarke will get some game action in the minors. The rookie center fielder has slashed .230/.274/.372 with three home runs, eight RBI, 18 runs scored, six stolen bases and a 6:61 BB:K across 159 big-league plate appearances this season.

Thomas underwent surgery on his right foot Tuesday and will be sidelined for the next three-to-four months, Tim Stebbins of MLB.com reports.

The surgery addressed the plantar fasciitis issue Thomas has been dealing with this season. With Thomas sidelined for the next few months, his season is over after just 39 games at the big-league level. The 30-year-old slashed a miserable .160/.246/.272 with four home runs, 11 RBI, 10 runs scored, four stolen bases and a 14:44 BB:K across 142 plate appearances. It's fair to wonder if Thomas was completely healthy for even half of those trips to the plate.

The Rangers placed Harris on the 10-day injured list Tuesday with a sprained wrist, Shawn McFarland of The Dallas Morning News reports.

Texas had initially planned to option Harris, but that's been voided and he'll instead spend the remainder of the regular season on the injured list. Harris has slashed .200/.256/.350 with one home run, two RBI, five runs scored, one stolen base and a 3:13 BB:K across 43 trips to the plate with Texas this season.

The Twins optioned Pereda to their spring training complex Tuesday.

With Ryan Jeffers back from his stay on the 7-day IL due to a concussion, Pereda loses his spot on the 26-man roster. Pereda has appeared in 11 games for the Twins this season, slashing .345/.387/.483 with four doubles, one RBI, one run scored and a 2:8 BB:K across 32 plate appearances.

The Twins activated Jeffers (concussion) from the 7-day injured list Tuesday.

Jeffers had been sidelined since Sept. 4 but is back in the lineup Tuesday against the Rangers and is batting third as the designated hitter. On the season, Jeffers is slashing .262/.353/.394 with nine home runs, 44 RBI, 47 runs scored and a 48:86 BB:K across 442 plate appearances. Jeffers' power numbers have taken a big dip after he clubbed 21 home runs over 465 trips to the plate in 2024.

Garcia (quadriceps) is starting in right field and batting fifth against the Twins on Tuesday.

Garcia is still dealing with a quad issue that forced him to the injured list earlier this month. Despite his activation from the IL eight days ago, manager Bruce Bochy said this past Sunday that Garcia still isn't 100 percent. Since returning from the injured list, Garcia is 1-for-18 at the plate with zero extra-base hits, one RBI and a 0:4 BB:K.
