The Red Sox recalled Bennett from Triple-A Worcester on Wednesday, Christopher Smith of MassLive.com reports.

Bennett will make a start against the Rays on Wednesday at Tropicana Field. The left-hander yielded five earned runs on 11 hits with a 4:4 K:BB in two starts with the Red Sox last month and boasts a 1.49 ERA, 1.02 WHIP and 41:9 K:BB in 42.1 innings over 10 starts for Worcester. Bennett could get an opportunity to stick in the rotation for a while until Garrett Crochet (lat) is ready.

Escarra is out of the lineup for Wednesday's game against the Guardians.

Left-hander Parker Messick is on the bump for Cleveland, so the left-handed-hitting Escarra will give way to the right-handed-hitting Ali Sanchez behind the dish in the series finale. Escarra was included in the lineup against righties in the first two games of the series and appears poised to occupy the strong side of a platoon at catcher while top backstop Austin Wells (headaches) is on the shelf.

Williamson will start at second base and bat sixth in Wednesday's game against the Red Sox, Ryan Bass of Rays.tv reports.

Williamson suffered an injury scare back on May 29, when he was hit on the left hand by a pitch and needed to be removed from a game against the Angels. After X-rays returned negative, Williamson was back in the lineup a day later, and he's now drawn eight starts out of the middle infield in the Rays' last 12 games. Four of those starts have come against left-handed pitchers, and two of the starts against righties came while Taylor Walls was out of the lineup due to a hamstring injury, so the Rays may still be viewing Williamson largely as a short-side platoon player.

The Red Sox optioned Gamboa to Triple-A Worcester on Wednesday, Christopher Smith of MassLive.com reports.

He's clearing out to make space on the roster for Jake Bennett, who will start Wednesday's contest in Tampa Bay. Gamboa made one appearance during his brief stint with the Red Sox, retiring both batters he faced.

Atlanta recalled Ritchie from Triple-A Gwinnett on Wednesday.

Ritchie had an up-and-down first stint in the majors, posting a 4.91 ERA and 21:16 K:BB over 25.2 innings in his five starts. It appears he will operate in a relief role this time around, providing the team with a bullpen arm capable of covering multiple innings.

Atlanta placed Kinley on the 15-day injured list Wednesday due to right elbow inflammation.

The transaction is retroactive to Monday, so Kinley could have a chance at returning to the Atlanta bullpen when first eligible June 23 if his elbow inflammation proves to be mild and he's able to resume throwing within the next few days. The right-hander has been a key part of the bridge to the ninth inning for Atlanta this season, notching four wins and 10 holds while pitching to a 3.18 ERA, 1.20 WHIP and 31:10 K:BB across 28.1 frames.

Atlanta designated Carrasco for assignment Wednesday.

Carrasco has been removed from Atlanta's 40-man roster before re-signing on three occasions this season, and the two parties could link back up again after he clears waivers. The veteran hurler holds a 3.00 ERA and 4:1 K:BB over nine innings with the big club this season.

Atlanta selected Karinchak's contract from Triple-A Gwinnett on Wednesday.

Karinchak will get a look with the big club after putting up a 2.45 ERA and 38:10 K:BB over 25.2 innings with Gwinnett. The 30-year-old has not appeared in the majors since 2023 and will likely work in low-leverage spots initially.

Mesa is out of the lineup for Wednesday's game against the Red Sox, Ryan Bass of Rays.tv reports.

The left-handed-hitting Mesa will remain on the bench for the third time in as many days while the Rays have faced off against left-handed starting pitchers in all three games of their series with the Red Sox. The Rays will go with Austin Slater in right field in place of Mesa, who is batting just .176 with one home run, three RBI and four runs in 12 games for Tampa Bay since being promoted from Triple-A Durham on May 24.

Simpson is not in the lineup for Wednesday's game versus the Red Sox.

Simpson returned to the lineup Tuesday after missing three starts with left thumb soreness. He went hitless in that contest and the left-handed hitter will now sit out Wednesday's matinee versus Boston southpaw Jake Bennett. Ryan Vilade will cover left field for the Rays.
