  • Astros' Taylor Trammell: Taking seat Tuesday

Trammell is not in the lineup Tuesday versus the Angels.

Trammel went 0-for-2 with in the series opener Monday versus the Angels. As he sits Tuesday, Joey Loperfido will start in left field and bat seventh.

  • Joey Estes SP | ATH

Athletics' Joey Estes: Gets call from Triple-A

The Athletics recalled Estes from Triple-A Las Vegas on Tuesday.

Estes has accumulated a 5.95 ERA and 1.49 WHIP in 59 innings (12 starts) at Triple-A this season, but he'll be welcomed back into the majors as the replacement on the active roster for Kade Morris, who was optioned to Las Vegas. Though the demotion of Morris creates a void in the big-league rotation, it's unclear if Estes will be the top choice to fill the open spot. Along with Estes, Mason Barnett is a candidate to join the rotation after striking out seven over four shutout innings of long relief in his most recent appearance Friday in Houston. With an off day on tap Thursday, the Athletics could get by without a fifth starter until next week, so Estes will likely be available out of the bullpen for at least the next couple of games.

  • Kade Morris RP | ATH

Athletics' Kade Morris: Sent back to Vegas

The Athletics optioned Morris to Triple-A Las Vegas on Tuesday.

Morris gave up nine earned runs in just four innings during his MLB debut Saturday, and he'll now be sent back down to the minors in favor of Joey Estes. Morris owns a 4.45 ERA and 1.48 WHIP in 60.2 innings at Las Vegas and could rejoin the A's at some point later this summer if he gets back on track with the Aviators.

  • Tyler Ferguson RP | CHC

Cubs' Tyler Ferguson: Recalled from Iowa

The Cubs recalled Ferguson from Triple-A Iowa on Tuesday, Vinnie Duber of the Chicago Sun-Times reports.

Ferguson will be summoned back to the big leagues to fill in for Trent Thornton while the latter is out on paternity leave. Ferguson gave up four earned runs in 1.1 innings during his lone MLB outing of the season with the A's, though he owns a 2.79 ERA and 1.20 WHIP at Triple-A since joining the Cubs organization.

  • Trent Thornton RP | CHC

Cubs' Trent Thornton: Away on paternity leave

The Cubs placed Thornton on the paternity list Tuesday, Vinnie Duber of the Chicago Sun-Times reports.

Per MLB rules, Thornton will be allowed to miss up to three games while he welcomes a new addition to his family. In the meantime, Tyler Ferguson will come up from Triple-A to fill the open spot in Chicago's bullpen.

  • Keibert Ruiz C | WAS

    Nationals' Keibert Ruiz: Resting Tuesday

Ruiz is not in the lineup Tuesday versus the Giants.

Drew Millas has the start behind the plate and is batting eighth Tuesday while Ruiz sits on the bench. Ruiz has gone 3-for-10 with two doubles over his last three games.

  • Mariners' Cooper Criswell: Placed on injured list

The Mariners placed Criswell on the 15-day injured list Tuesday with a right shoulder strain.

Criswell has given up three earned runs in 1.1 combined innings over his last two appearances, and he appears to have come away from his latest outing Monday with shoulder trouble. He'll take at least two weeks off to recover, and Nick Davila will come up from Triple-A Tacoma to replenish Seattle's bullpen depth.

  • Nick Davila RP | SEA

Mariners' Nick Davila: Up from Tacoma

The Mariners recalled Davila from Triple-A Tacoma on Tuesday.

Davila will return to the big leagues as the roster replacement for Cooper Criswell (shoulder), who landed on the 15-day injured list Tuesday. Davila has fired 7.1 shutout innings with the Mariners this season, though he's done so while posting a 4:6 K:BB. He'll likely be limited to middle-relief duty while with Seattle.

  • Curtis Mead 3B | BOS

    Nationals' Curtis Mead: Resting Tuesday

Mead is not in the lineup Tuesday versus the Giants.

Mead went 0-for-3 with a hit-by-pitch and a strikeout in the series opener against the Giants on Monday. He'll rest Tuesday as Jorbit Vivas starts at third base and bats sixth.

  • Angels' Jack Kochanowicz: Set for Tommy John surgery

Kochanowicz will undergo Tommy John surgery, Erica Weston of Bally Sports West reports.

Kochanowicz landed on the injured list Sunday due to right elbow inflammation, and an MRI revealed Tuesday that he suffered a torn UCL. The procedure will bring his season to an early end and force him to miss most, if not all, of the 2027 campaign as well.
