Joe Musgrove SP | SD
Padres' Joe Musgrove: Reaches 70 pitches in rehab start
Musgrove (elbow) allowed five earned runs on nine hits and one walk while striking out five across 4.2 innings Friday in his rehab start with Triple-A El Paso.
Though he was knocked around in the third start of his rehab assignment, Musgrove built up to 70 pitches and 95.2 mph with his fastball. According to MLB.com, Padres manager Craig Stammen said Musgrove was "very positive" about how he felt during Friday's outing, but a decision has yet to be made regarding whether he'll require another rehab start or return from the 60-day injured list to make his first big-league appearance since Sept. 26, 2024. If Musgrove ends up entering the rotation during the Padres' upcoming weekend series with the Twins, he would likely be operating with a limited pitch count.

Javier Assad RP | CHC
Cubs' Javier Assad: Dispatched to Triple-A
The Cubs optioned Assad to Triple-A Iowa on Sunday, Jesse Rogers of ESPN.com reports.
Assad lost his spot in the rotation in the aftermath of the Aug. 3 trade deadline and shifted to the bullpen, and he'll now end up losing his spot on the roster entirely after the Cubs reinstated Edward Cabrera (hamstring) from the 15-day injured list Sunday. Assad is expected to get stretched back out at Triple-A to offer insurance in case injuries test the big club's starting depth down the stretch.

Edward Cabrera SP | CHC
Cubs' Edward Cabrera: Activated ahead of start
The Cubs reinstated Cabrera (hamstring) from the 15-day injured list ahead of his scheduled start Sunday versus the Cardinals at Wrigley Field, Jesse Rogers of ESPN.com reports.
Chicago optioned right-hander Javier Assad to Triple-A in a corresponding move. Cabrera will be making his first appearance since June 23 after recovering from a left hamstring strain, and the right-hander was sharp during a three-start rehab assignment, firing five no-hit innings for Double-A Knoxville on Tuesday. He built up to 64 pitches in that outing and will likely have a light workload restriction in place Sunday.

Carlos Cortes RF | ATH
Athletics' Carlos Cortes: Sitting against southpaw
Cortes is absent from the lineup for Sunday's game against the Rangers.
With left-hander Cody Bradford toeing the slab for the Rangers, the left-handed-hitting Cortes will sit out the rubber match of the series. He'll be replaced in the lineup by Max Muncy, who will bat seventh as the Athletics' designated hitter.
-
Jacob Wilson SS | ATH
Athletics' Jacob Wilson: Making return to starting nine
Wilson (finger) will start at shortstop and bat third in Sunday's game against the Rangers.
Wilson will make a quick return to the lineup after he dealt with some swelling and stiffness in his left pinky finger following a hit by pitch Friday. The young shortstop has had a couple minor injury scares thus far in August, as he also missed a start a couple weeks ago due to patellar tendinitis, and he's batting just .212 (7-for-33) on the month.
-
Jeff McNeil 2B | ATH
Athletics' Jeff McNeil: Sitting out against lefty
McNeil is out of the lineup for Sunday's game against the Rangers.
The Athletics will give McNeil a day off for the series finale while the Rangers send southpaw Cody Bradford to the bump. Tommy White will draw the start at first base in place of McNeil, who has submitted a .935 OPS with three stolen bases through his first 10 games of August.
-
Hunter Goodman C | COL
Rockies' Hunter Goodman: Missing third consecutive game
Goodman (shoulder) is out of the lineup for Sunday's game against the Giants.
After being scratched from the lineup ahead of Saturday's 7-1 loss due to left shoulder inflammation, Goodman will wind up missing a third straight start on account of the injury. The Rockies will go with Brett Sullivan behind the plate Sunday in place of Goodman, who is being viewed as day-to-day heading into the team's three-game series with the Dodgers that begins Monday.

Luis Campusano C | SD
Padres' Luis Campusano: Receiving rest Sunday
Campusano is out of the lineup for Sunday's game against the Guardians.
Campusano will get a breather Sunday after he made starts at catcher and designated hitter in the first two games of the series, going 2-for-7 with two doubles, one walk and three RBI. Freddy Fermin will step in behind the dish, while Manny Machado receives a turn as the Friars' DH.
